In about a week I'll have my covetor.. and I'd like to use it to keep my account going using in-game cash. Keep in mind during this time of year I have little to no work and can play all the time.
So my question is, what would be the ebst thing for me to mine solo using a Covetor for maximum profit? And before you jump in and say it depends on the market, remember I'm asking for opinions. :P Just throw me a bone.

kernites a good bet if you can find it.
I have a really nice signature. It doesnt exceed the 24000 byte limit, or the height restrictions - Laice |

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 07/12/2007 04:15:41 Exhumers have the same skill requirement as the coveter (plus the exhumer skillbook obviously.) If you already have a load of in-game cash get yourself into a Hulk.
What does a GTC go for nowadays? 150 million isk for a month's play time? That's hours and hours of mining, but is perfectly doable. Not sure how much fun you'll really be having with your purchased playtime when this is how you pay for it, but to each his own. Chribba mines for some kind of higher zen purpose after all.
I believe that pyroxeres has the highest isk value of any high sec ore, but I haven't been around kernite in awhile. Whatever you do don't get tempted into coming to 0.0 for arkonor or something. That stuff is for reprocessing into its component minerals only, fills up your cargohold really fast, and has no buy orders on-site (we need it to make stuff.) Don't be tempted by jaspet or hemorphite in low sec either, since it faces a similar problem of not making up in isk what it takes up in cargo space.

Yeah, IF you mine in a system with a station you can dock at in a region where there are public buy orders for high-end ore, AND there aren't local pirates that will harass you AND you don't mind flying from belt to belt whenever a new wave of 0.0 rats spawn.
And on top of that, 0.0 systems close to Empire don't usually have any different ore types than low sec does. You have to go deeper, into a world of hurt.

Well, the thing is I can really only solo mine, and a Hulk is beyong my skills (and cashflow) and will be for a long while.

Go to a mining agent = extra cash for mining and you get LP/standing. You ll need high standing to lower refining fees. And mine the belt that spawns completely for an added bonus with almost no risk that ore thieves steal your can.
I got like 2500 hedbergite and 40k pyrox extra during a miningmission in a .8, where you normally never find pyrox.
Nice bonus IMO.

I can't suggest a specific agent there, but you should check under the local NPC corps' agent tab to find a mining agent you can use. This can be a tedious process, but necessary if you need to find an agent in a corp you don't already have standing with.

Fair enough but how many 0.0 corps will take a new player who needs to spend most of their time online mining for personal profit?
Well in any event, OP, figure out the isk/hour you make from various high sec ores and find out how long it will take to buy a GTC based on that. Don't overlook omber either.

i hear good things about veldspar
i think i mined a gtcs worth in a few days of mining, 150,000,000isk/3(isk/trit)=50,000,000 trit. 50,000,000(trit)/3(trit/veld) is 16,666,667 veld *.1m3/veld -> 1,666,666.67 m3 of veldspar, 1,666,666.67m3 at 3*1,100m3/min (yield/(yeild/min)) is 505 minutes of mining veldspar about, 8.5 hours. although this doesnt include trips back to station. my cargo is ~170,000 units of veld (cargo expanded hulk), takes about 5 cycles, so about 16 mins, in real time it takes a few more cycles (due to roids depleating) and comes out to about 18-20 mins.
I would give a real time expectation of double ( 17 hours), to triple (25.5 hours)
i wish i could find a roid that i could mine for 8.5 hours
sounded like one hell of a lowball estimate, but going through it again it looks like it works out?

If he is active that 150mil, of high end ore should make up a minimal time per month for personal gain...

Really only one way to determine the best ore to mine: pay close attention to the mineral prices, compare it to the rate you can gain that mineral per hour mining various types of ore and pick the one that will net you the most. Tritanium might be the cheapest ore, but because Veldspar produces it in massive quantities for the amount mined in an hour, it has (and possibly still is) been the most profitable ore to mine compared to time spent mining.
The market is pretty unpredictable lately so there is really no substitute to watching it and making your own calculations. |
