This is my first pilot so i'd like to know if he will work before I get too far. I want him to mostly mine and refine. I forsee a defensive strategy using mostly drones and bravely running away, while loading my ship up with mining lasers. Here are my stats: Int 13 Per 5 Cha 6 Wil 6 Mem 17 Im starting with 5pts in mining, 5 in refining and 4 in mechanic. With the absurdly low Perception will I be toast later in the game? I will probably make some alts more focused on combat who will be financially supported by this dude. So far he seems to be making cash well, but Ive only been playing 4 days. Any advice would be appreciated.

For mining and refining your stats are ok. You'll have trouble learning combat and ship skills, but you should not need those as badly if you favor a carebear oriented Sir Robert strategy (when danger reared it's ugly head, he bravely turned his tail and fled). Most industrial and science skills are actually dependent on memory and intelligence so those will be learned with ease. And there are always implants if you want to try your hand at some combat skills later on.
Note that attributes do in no way affect your atctual gameplay. They purely determine the speed at which you learn skills. Each skill has a primary and secondary attribute. The primary attribute contributes to skill learning the most. Both primary and secondary skills determine how many skill points you will gain each minute while training that skill. Combined with the skill's rank (which determines how many skill points you need to level the skill), the time needed to level that skill can be calculated. Once a skill is learned the attributes don't affect actual use of the skill though. Gameplay is affected by skills, and any character can learn any skill.

Thanks Shanur! Hopefully I will have the space bucks rolling in with jet-can mining very soon. I will certainly NOT be standing up to the Chicken of Bristol...and thats ok.

You should be fine, but you'll take a while to learn the Mining Barge and Exhumer skills. Implants will help with this.

The only thing that will take a bit is Mining Barge V. It has Perception as a primary attribute. Perhaps you might consider learning that, or at least, download Evemon and see how you can speed it up. You can get there faster if you train the learning skills first. It's actually faster to do that then the mining skills as opposed to straight mining skills without the learning skills.
Bottom line: Consult with Evemon Re vera, potas bene. |

not wanting to split hairs, or to become a huge troll, and risking a possible flame war I feel I ought to say that this was the Brave Sir Robin's strategy, not Sir Robert :)

Another concern might be Charisma which affects the training time for some of the skills which will help you with refining and manufacturing, mostly due to your standings with NPC corps.

I'd say he's fine in that regard. There's only a couple, and they're low ranks skills. 6 Base is higher than most start with.

I agree, Social V and Connections IV is fine for this purpose. Re vera, potas bene. |
