Something weird happen last night to our pos. At 16:23 i got the mails for low fuel. I didnĘt worry coz i would have 24 hours to fuel it and decided to do it the following day.
Latter on one the guys sees an under attack mail for one of the labs. Which seems strange as the pos is fuelled for least another 18 hours. When he arrives everything is online but the shield is down.
Is this a bug? We petition it but wanted to know if anyone else knew about this?

i had same issue last night with a death star pos,
some modules and tower online, no shields.
petitioned it and GM stated that resetting password would fix it, and it did.
was a bit of a worry though, given its location

The force-field was down on two of our faction towers (shields read at 78%)...I spend 5mins looking at the patch notes, stick in a new PW and up the force-field popped.

That sucks we sent a petition. Obviously these guys in local were looking for pos's with shields down.
If this was made aware a bit more i would sorted it out. We lost 2 labs coz of this exploit!!

^ yup
you would think CCP would find a better way of letting people know about this though .. this is a serious issue and i know atleast 12-15 people personally who lost billions of isk(each!) worth of modules because of it

Well personally i would now call this an explot. The pirates in the system yesterday were clearly checking for pos's with shields down.
Lucky for us we use Scientific Networking. Else it could be hell lot worse. But im still down 300mill for loss of labs. I still think we deserve compensating. Passwords were never required in the past.
I also noticed that the patch notes state newly deployed pos's. Well my pos been up for over a week now. Define Newly Deployed :)
Quote: A newly deployed starbase will not have a forcefield bubble until a password is set and the UI shows the forcefield as 'active' (status can be seen on the panel you set the password on).

read the patch notes, it was announced that poses without pw will have no shields! So if you didnt set one its your fault that the labs were destroyed! thats no exploit!

We had passwords set, and shields went down, new password cleared it, just lucky no one shot at my POS.
Patchnotes said new POSes would have no forcefield until password was set.

CCP better reimburse us. Also another stupid thing happened with this. Even when I was remote researching some of my bpo's at the labs they disappeared when the labs were shot ...

I am having a problem that I think may be a bug. It is that my corp is at war and we are attacking a POS. The pos has no forcefield and has guns. I think it is offline because we have been working on taking its shields down and no gun fire. The shields are regaining back when we are offline. Does anyone have any ideas? I was told in the help channel to petition is so I did but I dont want to keep wasting ammo if this is going no where.

My POS had password and force-field enabled, but now force-field was disabled. I just checked it. I had to reset password to get it up again. WTF!?

all our POSes except one had forece field down. One POS had also been shot at and the time was 02:00 after Patch deployment Eve time.
All Silos, couplingarrays, reactions and a lab gone. I petitioned it and still waiting for answer ( with another charactername ) All these POSes had been up and online for about a year and longer so the note in the patch misslead me.
I'm not going to cry if we don't get it back, I can afford that but I would be happy if the announcment would be more clear if they descide to take down the Force Field next time.

I read the patch notes thoroughly before the server came up and spotted this note about the POS forcefield. My experience is that it functioned as planned. Most of my POS had passwords set but some of them didn't. Only the ones without passwords had their shields down, the rest were fine. Adding a password quickly put the shield up and nobody attacked anything as I got online straight after the patch came live to check on my POS.
I do know that before the patch, if you didn't set a password people could pass through your shield but they couldn't target structures. CCP should seriously have implemented this change a lot better by putting a random password in and evemailing POS owners with it, it's stupid that if you didn't happen to log in right away after the patch to fix your POS, they could be destroyed. Of course, having POS guns configured correctly would destroy most attackers before they have time to pop a structure, wouldn't it?
This isn't an exploit as it's a legitimate feature in the patch notes so I doubt you'll get your stuff back :/. Even if they do declare it an exploit, they don't act on it retroactively. Instead, CCP have a policy whereby something is not an exploit unless it's already been declared an exploit by some information that's accessible to the user or something like that. So basically if there's no rule about it and no message in the news about it, they won't ban people for doing it since there's no way they could have known it was an exploit.
The only thing that will stop them is if a GM tells them to stop, at which point continuing to do it is a bannable offence. So submitting petitions isn't a total waste, chances are they'll tell the guy to stop and it will save someone else's POS.
Coupled with the fact that POS labs just plain don't work for any job that needs items, this patch seems to have caused a lot of problems with POS :(.

Agreed, ours has been up for months, but GoonFleet found it and stole all of our moduals. no mail no nothing until one of them shot at the hanger. by the time we got there 3 of them where left in system and 1 was tring to ransom the tower. we lost over 400 mil in moduals, items, ships and so on.
This is now DEFINATLY an exploit. and i would like to see CCP doing something about it. I would have changed the pass if it hadnt said a 'Newly Deloyed Starbase' *sigh*
well it partitioned... i will let you all know what happens

I think the relevant patch note is not the one about new POS but this one:
Quote: An issue with setting up force fields at control towers has been fixed, and the password requirement is now clear.

That still doesnt explain why some towers with passwords set got the forcefield deactivated

True, but my experience was that only POS without passwords got their field deactivated. All mine that I know had passwords on them were fine. Hopefully GMs will be able to check if it had a password set before the patch or if you're mistaken and maybe then you'll get reimbursement.

And another thing the patch notes say nothing about is the remotely researched bpo's disappearing after the labs were killed

I guess it really WASN'T intended after all, check this news article out.
So maybe it wasn't an intended game mechanic but really just CCP's design team screwing up again and their QA team not being able to catch really basic problems. Wish I could say I was surprised.

Unfortunately, that's not how it works. They can't just magically give you everything back that you had last week because that would duplicate items. Items that were dropped as loot have been taken and probably sold to another player by now. They CAN reimburse things that were destroyed such as the labs themselves, though, and they really should.
