A corpmate pointed out today that since the Trinity patch, the directional scanner seems a little "off" when working down at a 5 degree scan
Prior to the patch (I'm still using classic btw), a 5 deg scan basically fit inside the box you get if you click on your ship in space. It was the centre-point point of the scan. Now it seems offset. I'll get a guy on 5 deg scan who I know is in belt X, but my ship "scan box" is off to one side of the belt, where I would usually get nothing.
It's resulting in a lot more guesswork when scanning areas where planets, belts, etc. are grouped fairly close together.
Anyone else experiencing this?

It's a little unsettling that the scanner cursor is set to 5 by default , while providing a 360 until you move it. Actually it makes scanning a little bit easier , since 30-90 are on the left half and closer to it anyway.

Edited by: techzer0 on 09/12/2007 05:50:16 Noticed that too... kind of annoying when trying to get in on a target quick. The other thing with it looking like it's set to 5 degrees when you open it, but actually scanning 360 kinda threw me off a bit.
Scanner has just gotten worse since they removed the little map from it tbh... I used to love the scanner ____________________ Hi. I'm not an alt :)

Yeah, that is a little more scanner weirdness, but I find it less unsettling than not knowing where a 5 deg scan is actually pointing.

I think that the possible cause is the 'selection box point' (inspirational name, I know) is now different from the centre of the ship. This is visible when you have your ship selected and it's turning. So basically you need to memorize where the centre of the ship is, or alternatively, turn your ship in the direction you wish to scan so that the selection box, centrepoint and target are all in line. ---

Hit F11 and open the minimap. The map you miss is on the bottom.

Yup, but I don't think that has the little cone that the old directional scanner map used to have. ---

Agree directional scanner got the graphic nerf bat to many times now.
The new F10 solar system map is only useful when probing but the old directional scanner map was much more useful when directional scanning. the f10 map is way to clumsy to be effective. Use F11 not F10 for directional scanning. It has the cone, and will most likely cut down on your accuracy problems.
I'm also not going to lie, I only discovered this a few weeks ago. How I got along for so long without it, I'll never know.

Edited by: Neal Cassady on 09/12/2007 11:14:39 zoom out and you will see where the problem comes from. the box will migrate towards the center of the screen. coincidently, while zoomed out, this stealth pirate nerf will no longer affect you! woot!
EDIT: dont use the goddamn f11 map to scan, it's 2d.

actually, the scanner is set to 360, it only starts out to the far left and it says 360 where it would say 5.
To compensate for it being off, zoom out several times and you wont have any problems. Sig locked, I will not make fun of the forum mods |

And by looking at the 2d map in 99% of the systems in eve you get a good idea of what the system looks like in 1 sec since most celestials circulate the star in a 2d plane. Rather then having to wait for F10 map to zoom around then you gotta move cursor so it looks at your ship from above and zoom out as the standard view on F10 map depends on where you look in space, so it doesn't reset to your previous setting, Id like a flatten solar system map on the F10 map. Ok it takes maybe 5-10 seconds but when pirating I rather save those 8 seconds finding the best planet to scan from.
Most ppl warp to planet 1 then scan because its the best planet to do your first scan from in about 75% of the solar systems but in the other 25% if you use the 2d map you will spot the best planet to scan from in 1 second. It has a clear advantage that can't be overlooked. Sig removed, lacks Eve-related content. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] - Cortes |

Is anyone getting weird results as well, i mean like seeing ships that arnt there. I was in a system the other day and saw 2 motherships on scan, no one else in local, a few seconds later they were gone. -------------

How about.. using both? Keep the 2d map open when entering the system, warp to the system of your choice, warp to optimal planet, while in warp open your system map and scan in 3d.
The part where the 2d map doesn't indicate the thir dimension and the centre of the ship no longer is accurate makes... the systemmap useful.

If you hold down Alt while turning, you will notice the [] bounces. It never did that before.
To top this all off, sometimes I've had the Scanner hang. You get the "busy" icon in the upper right corner of window. Closing and reopening un-hangs it.
Also scan results seem to lag, but I'm not 100% sure of that.

All you have to do is zoom the camera way out and the "bobbing" won't affect the angle.

Yes, but that's not the point. Taking up even more of my screen with useless menu options that were RARELY used for a reason (Because it pushes your overview into the center of your screen) Just because CCP wants to make a rarely used shortcut useful is annoying as all hell.
Give me the Red Moon Rising scanner again, without the crap accuracy and the F11 shortcut key. ____________________ Hi. I'm not an alt :)
