Just browsing through the forums here, reading lots of talk about player numbers, multiple accounts and such.
I have never had an alt, or a second account. I went through about 3 other characters in my first month, but when I settled on this one, I've always had him training, unless I was away from the game for long periods.
Are there many other players that have only ever used one character?

Me, though I have a character who's name is reserved for my significant other because 1. She's taking her sweet time in getting to EVE and 2. She likes the name so much that she's asked me to reserve it for her -

Well im still classified as a noob (was a long lost beta player though) but i am not planning on buying a second account. Since i cant train another character on the same account at the same time, i doubt i would have an alt unless im bored or have reached my goal of King Miner :P

Edited by: Crumplecorn on 10/12/2007 12:38:43 I didn't have an alt for over 6 months after I joined. And the alt didn't serve as anything more than a second hauler for a few months after that.
But these days I dual-box -

Eve is full of alts tbh. PvPers especially have a lot of alts. Why? Because PvP although is fun, it's an ISK sink and the only way to PvP non-stop, while providing ISK for better and more expensive toys are alts, more so that many ISK making activities are big time-sinks with long learning time and at the same time provide little to no entertainment. Many in game items are nearly unaccessible for ppl with one account, because the are ungodly expensive (faction fitting, faction implants). Some items are designed for multi-accounters (supercapitals) - you wouldn't like to lock your only character in one ship forever. Naturally, the more successful and rich the player is, the more likely he has an alt, or even several.

Seriously though, you need to specialize in eve so the easiest way to experience multiple aspects is to have more than 1 character.

Edited by: Topaz Skydiver on 10/12/2007 13:15:49 I'm mostly playing one account now, although I've got four.
The main reason was that I wanted to experience different aspects of the game how I like. In other games that offer classes, I usually end up with one character of each class, because I want it all. I put lots of time into a new game that I like, so the skill training just seemed too slow for all the things I wanted to do. Someone else might be happy, if he spends 2 hours running missions each day. Well, if I want to spend 5-7 hours in EVE, but not do missions, but do lots of different stuff during that extra time you spend, like production or spending some time as alliance player and some time as freelancer, then more accounts are helpfull, especially before you've got that uber char, who knows it all.
Well, now my chars are so advanced that the skilltrees overlap a bit, don't really need them all, but keep training. The chars start to become a burden, because they all want those expensive skills. Actually got one char in capitals and the other 3 are ready for it, but lack the isk. Then I've got 2 gallente BS pilots with BS V one better in drones, one better in gunnery. Also two caldari bs pilots. One better overall skills, one better missile and EW skills and one Minmatar focussed char ofc, with a bit skills in the 3 other races.
So now I play less EVE, because it just isn't so facinating anymore after those years, lack isk, don't have the time to spend time on all chars and their skills aren't that different anymore. --------------------------------------------- *snip* |

I've only ever had this character as my main. Did have a second account for a while as a Cyno chain, sometimes reactivate it when I need to get out of a tricky situation, but since the Jump Bridges and Cyno Gen's I've found I dont need it. Which is good, because it saves me 10 quid a month
