obviously when it comes to speed minmitar will win and shield (i think) caldari wil win allthough a slep's shield boost bonus is nice, but whats best for armor? i was thinking damnation but some1 said to me an eos can match it
i dont agree but i accnt fly command ships so if there is any command ship pilots reading this which is best damnation or eos?
wardeneo
ps, are the damnation and eos active or passive tanked or drake tanked and what i mean by drake tanked is mostly passive with a few active mods that arnt reppers.

Edited by: Mastin Dragonfly on 13/12/2007 16:04:10 You can't truelly passive tank on armor since it doesn't regenerate like shield does, you can set it up with a huge buffer and count on outlasting your opponent(s) but you will still need an armor repairer at some point.
As for Eos vs Damnation, I think the damnation will win: two tanking bonuses vs one and a more evenly spread armor resist. Eos has no bonus whatsoever on explosive while Damnation gets both the T2 resist bonus and a ship bonus.

If you want to be strict, there are just about no passive tanks around in game, as invulnerability fields are active.
If your idea of survival requires no active repairing or boosting, it's pretty much passive, in my book.

But overal a sustainable twin MAR tank is quite easy.
As for good setups, i don't have any tried and tested ones, just a few i drew up for when i can fly it myself, so i'd be interested in seeing some experienced Damnation pilot setups too.

Damnation Passive Tank = 2 x 1600 EANMs + Work the Rest Out w/o active repairers.
It has over 300K Effective HP with just T2 mods, each rep won't contribute enough to be worth putting up there, deal with it later :)

With the armor ammount bonus and loads of spare grid after fitting your high slots load the lows up with 1600mm tungsten plates. You get nearly an additional battleships worth of armor from each one. Getting 40k armor is not hard at all with this beast, and if fit correctly like mentioned above you will be sporting 300k+ effective armor with no need to use cap for anything but your MWD and gang mods. The passive defense is probably the first choice, but after that the other armor gang mods aren't always useful. You can throw in a skirmish link to increase scram range that is only 1 or 2 km less than a bonused claymore, so definitely worth it.

Probably not what you are looking for, but I swapped from an EOS to a Damnation after the patch due to losing heavy drones on the EOS and the Damnation having a far better tank:
All of the tank is fully sustainable.

Armour Resists: EM: 83.2% Therm: 85.8% Kin: 84.3% Exp: 91.6%
EFT gives it a defence factor of 756 with everything on default.
As you can guess its a second account, now used purely for tanking, bit of frig killing with light T2 drones and loot/salvage.
Only downside is it takes serious skill points to fit like this
