Which ofthe above should I use? Is voice best as it has ingame features that ventrilo does not, I not sure as people have told me eve voice is rubbish?

The sound quality of Eve-Voice is on par with Ventrilo for me, but it has a lot of disadvantages over a third party program.
The major one is that if you have a client disconnect, you lose the ability to speak with your fleet until you log in and get back online and in gang, so effectively you're blacked out until you get back in game.
Taking into account the stability of Eve's client, it can be an issue for some people.
For smaller corps that aren't focused on PvP, it sounds like it'll be really useful though

Pros Ventrilo: + 3rd party program and independent from Eve client. Crashes of the client won't affect you.
+ You can adjust the volume (and other stuff) of every other person on the server individually.
Pros Eve-voice: + Easy to access, no need to for server adresses, ports and anything. No hassling around with some people using Ventrilo or Teamspeak.
+ Free!
Why I don't use Eve voice is quickly explained. You cannot adjust the volume of the other people. Some of them are too loud or not loud enough. That makes it hard to understand them. Ventrilo has this big advantage there that you co adjust the volume/frequency/modulation of the other people. Otherwise Eve-voice would be my choice.

A Few more
Pros Ventrilo:
You can run Vent on a old laptop seperate from the computer you are running EVE (lots of advantages to this setup) Pentium III 500 mhz , 192mb RAM (So don't throw old computers away)
Pros Eve-voice:
Can listen in on other channels while talking on another.
Persoonally I see a lot more people uses EVE voice now but .... I don't see the end of Vent in the EVE universe anytime soon but I must admit EVE-Voice has come a long way and is now a nice thing to have. SO at least for me the choice is BOTH at the same time. |

Teamspeak.
Because Vent doesn't run on Linux, and I don't think EVE-Voice does either... it didn't prior to Trinity, but I haven't tried it since.
What's odd/sad is that WoW's in-game voice chat does work in Linux :-\ And I'm actually preferring it over vent/TS just because it's all in-game and easy to turn on/off. Moreover, everyone has it, so I don't have to explain installation and configuration.

Ventrillo. Client-independent voice is a LOT more convenient. ________________________________________________________________

If only CCP could somehow develop a seperate evevoice.exe file that hooks into the eve.exe that would provide all the fleet features of the current eve voice, but not go offline when the client crashes. =============================================

And then we get a zillion post on the forum that my antivirus/antispyboot/antiwhatnot just ****ed eve as it was identified as malware.
Joke aside, i agre out of game eve voice would be nice. (and there _are_ some plans for it)

Well then thats a few more people for CCP to laugh at
Anyway, instead of hooking into the client it could be like a 2nd client which talks to the server directly. You login using your account details, and then it reads info from the server about what your main is doing. =============================================

I don't know what you're referring to... does "It" represent Vent, TS, or EVE-Voice in this sentence?

Vent ftw.
I would say Teamspeak as it covers Linux (vent DOES NOT, altho if you wanna spend some time, I know a few ppl that have gotten it working on *nix) but Teamspeak's quality simply blows.
I've often wondered why games like Eve or WoW for that matter bring out their in-game voice system, as hardly anyones ever going to use it. Let's see, public voive system to hear all the morons, or a dirt cheap 3rd party voice program with just my friends.... tough call. No, not really.

ah yes, let's have ANOTHER client take up the already overloaded servercluster, what a great idea. no thanks...

It depends, for a large scale alliance I would say vent/teamspeak for a small group of people playing casually I would say eve-voice (unless there is a tech savy amongst you who likes running his own server for you). --- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs |

You can't say, "hey is it okay for me to login for the trap now?" through eve chat. Not that I do that. Honestly.
Anyway, there are plus and minus on both sides. I use both.
The biggest benefit will be those multi alliance/corps forming up for a fleet op and you don't have to take lots of time setting up someone's TS to host everybody at once. I can see that being a nightmare for an admin trying to ensure no spy gets in TS.
Use eve chat for fleet communications, use your own alliance/corp Team Speak or vetrillo for your wing. That way you can lambblast the FC's command in TS without them knowing about it.

Eve voice has been really buggy for me.
None of the push to talk keys work for me. I can't talk. Another issue is I can join the audio channel and listen and it sounds great, but I click leave and it shows visually that I leave but I still hear everyone in channel. Even if I hit Escape and remove check box from Eve Voice I still hear them. I have to disconnect and relog to actually leave the channel.
I can't find any way to make the push to talk keys work. They work in vent and teamspeak, but in Eve Voice I've tried every push to talk key in the drop down menu and none work for me :(
ah well back to vent/teamspeak

2 things that I know of.
1. Problem with Logitech mouse bindings. Solution is to close out of the logitech mouse binding software in Windows. (does not solve mouse buttons 3,4,5 probs)
2. Running XFire will disable the keyboard bindings. (close XFire before opening EVE)
Are you in either of these categories? -Nate

unfortunately i dont fall into those categories.
I'll petition it and see what's up.
It's strange though I can tell it leave channel and I still hear people talking until I restart the client. Even turning eve voice off in esc menu I can still hear the channel until I relog.
and can't use any push to talk they have set, nothing happens noone hears me, and I can confirm no data transfer when I push the push to talk sitting here watching a packet meter program.
This was happening since trinity released, just chalked it up to bug and ignored it, I guess I'll go ahead and petition it.
