Edited by: Rameus Luxmaar on 14/12/2007 23:19:42 I know that since the Trinity update that Torpedoes have had range reduced.
However I have not laid any damage to anything with Torpedoes since the update. I understand the mechanics of signature radius etc etc.
Has anyone had a similar issue? Yes I have filed a petition for those that may bring the issue up. IMMORTALIS INC. is recruiting new members! |

You're shooting too far. The torp image still goes that far, IIRC, but unless you're within the 15-30km range of a torp, you won't be dealing any damage.

Thanks for the reply, however I'm still not dealing any damage at the above range 15k-30k. My skills are not bad at all for torps. No matter what range I fire at I get no DPS at all. IMMORTALIS INC. is recruiting new members! |

If you are out of range, your torps will still move towards target and give you that sexy explosion with no damage, your just going to have to get closer.

get them fitted on your ship - rightclick your ship while in space and check the attributes of missiles by clicking on the info sign while you are in the "modules" tab. calculate flightspeed x flight duration and deduct 1-2km...
On a Raven with both range skills to 4 and BS 5 I get about 24km with T1 torpedoes. T2 Rage torps should get me about 10-12km only (by often faulty memory...)
Since a few months back missile graphics are showing hits and detonation eveb if you are way out of range so you can no longer trust your visuals to judge distance... Very annoying actually - wonder if it's a casaulty of the need for speed agenda... - I'm a nice guy!!
But hook me up with some pew pew, because I'm really bored... |

Thanks again for the replies. Its pretty sad that we have to be right on top of a target to do any damage with torps. I guess we were spoiled for all too long being able to hit an object with a torpedo at 90+.
Just another nerf coin to drop in the well.... we will march on.
Thanks again. IMMORTALIS INC. is recruiting new members! |

Well after further testing... yes DPS is better and I'm hitting under 25k and more so the closer I get. I'm just not sure why I was not hitting at all during my previous tests at close range last night... *shrug* Oh well.
I will now have to retract my nerf statement posted above.
Torps = close range high damage. Makes sense.
Thanks again all. IMMORTALIS INC. is recruiting new members! |

Torps are slow so if you and your target are moving you can travel 2-3 KM by the time the torp reaches the target, if you are firing at targets on the very edge of your range sometimes the target is effectively out of range by the time they hit.
Ive changed over to a 3 BCS II Cruise setup and I now prefer it even against the old torps, they reach the target a hell of a lot faster and with support skills to level 4 they hit cruisers harder than heavy missiles, BSs take perhaps 1 volley more to kill but because the missiles travel faster it takes about the same amount of time to kill as torps did at 50-60KM.
Drone improvements rock to set them to focus fire and aggressive and let them murder all the frigates. --------------------------------------- Output folder: C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE Delete file: \boot.ini Extract: boot.ini... 100% |

Rameus,
My Missile skills are all maxed [except capital torps] and the stats say that I can reach out to 33kms with rage torps.
Apparently the Torp Raven will outdamage a MegaT now, but, alike the MegaT, you have to get up close and personal. I'm currently experimenting with a armour tanked, torp Raven with mwd, scram, web, cap injector and a couple of other mods in meds.
I'm experimenting with 3 armour enhancing rigs atm, but may switch theose out ofr armour amount or something else along the armour tanking lines.

Yah, you were probably just spoiled by the old BBQ-sauce range, now you're going to have to adjust to using either in-your-face higher-damage torpedoes or (unchanged) cruise missiles.

Can't believe I didn't know this. And to think of how many times I've docked just to check out the missiles stats in a fitting station... I love you.

Actually i had trouble doing damage @ 25 km last night, had to stay @ around 21 km to hit 100%. According to EFT i have max range of 28.6 km and we where only moving @ 156 m/s. Maybe there is a slight bug

Not really a bug so much as the missile accelerating taking up some of the flight time, so that cuts off a few kms.

Edited by: d026 on 17/12/2007 14:43:58 Torp effective range = Flighttime * (Missile Velocity - Target Velocity). You never gona hit anything if you dont take targets velocity into account.. There is no conservation of momentum in EVE :(
