Edited by: KillMeAndSeeIfICare on 19/12/2007 01:32:43 Ok, here it is:
I got some public contract, the public contract had 500k ISK collateral and 100 mil payout. It's a courier contract, it's in low sec, it's 1 jump. Essentially it's 1 jump from 0.4 to 0.5 - volume is 50km3, so it needs a freighter. Container is full of...shuttles :)
So what gives? Is thrill of blowing up a freighter worth 100 mil ISK to someone, or is there some other catch that escapes my sight?
Edit: Added the shuttles info. |

Either someone got collateral and payout mixed up or there's something I'm missing as well . _____________________________________________

Simply get a Scout or a Escort of some BS. Frighters alone in Low Sec are a bad Idee. Use your Corp or some frinds. I donŠt think it is Scam by ony using 500k as Colateral. Nerf Tank, boost Gank! XD

Ofc I'll keep all the safety precautions and take some escort - but why the hell would someone pay 100 mil ISK to move damn shuttles? :D

Cant you just keep the package for yourself ? 500k is nothing to loose. If the payout is 100 mil, it might be some nice faction module ;) ___

It was like a baby, it landed on my lap and was helpless and totally defenseless. Then I shot it and bragged about it on a killboard.

Some people would pay to move a Faction BS from Low to High savely. But the Colaterall is way to low for that task and risk. Going in short before DT and leaving short after DT with a Scout will be mostly the best choice to get that 100 M without a real risk. Nerf Tank, boost Gank! XD

Edited by: xJohnnyDx on 19/12/2007 01:45:03 He already said it's full of shuttles, so assuming he was telling the truth, it really sounds like someone just wanting to wave their e-peen over a freighter kill.
50k m3 would contain 100 shuttles, valued at, 7-9k or so, so a 100 mil reward is obviously not something the contract issuer is planning on paying.
Edit - damn, way to clarify that while I was writing my post.

It's truth, I have the contract accepted. Is there some trick that would lead to me not getting the 100 mil? (Blowing up the freighter excluded)

None that I can personally think of. Courier contracts are pretty straight forward. As far as I know, if you get the package to the station, you can complete the contract and get your reward.
It really doesn't make a whole lot of sense at all, except the guy that said maybe the contract issuer mixed up the collateral and reward. Anyway, take advantage of it, get the package in there and get your 100 mil, then send him a friendly thank you message :)

Im rather new to this. But do you need to carry all the stuff in 1 ship? Is it a sealed container or something? IF not just do 2 runs with a Iteron V

- Stupid mistake (collateral/payout mixed up) - 100 mil for the fireworks
Any other ideas? Geez, my head's gonna explode because of this :)

Doesn't weird stuff happen if you explode a freighter carrying lots of shuttles?
E.g. lots of shuttles pop out into space, or possibly a lag-bomb?
Perhaps it's some kind of setup.
Group A are camping the gate, ready to kill things. Person B contracts a freighter to carry shuttles to the gate. Group A engage and destroy, lots of shuttles pop out, Lag happens. Person B uses this distraction to perform some action unobserved by group A?
It's probably some kind of trap, but who is the intended victim?
Or some kind of practical joke.

^^^^^^^^^^ That wouldn't work, as the shuttles will still be sealed in their contract container.
There really is no (logical) explanation for this. _____________________________________________

probably trying to catch your freighter to ransom it, idea isnt bad when you have the manpower to not let the freihgter finish the contract. -

Ransom as in 'gimme 500 mil or your 1 bil ship goes poof'? Doesn't this require me not bringing 10 BS as escort, and them camping 23/7 for next n days? :)

Could be a trap to get u into low sec with a freighter. Corp mates and friends help if you want to go thru with the contract. Its also another trap though. U've handed over 500,000isk collateral for a mission that has a slim chance of succeeding and the trap being the 100mil reward. Russian Roulette Eve style.
When something is to good to be true. It usually is.
Clever scam though.

He's probably camping the gate next to that station, then. If this is true, then why not just find an alternate route into the system?

This is silly. Shuttles are worth 9k each , so 50k m3 = 100 shuttles = 900k ISK. Which is higher than the collateral , and it's unlikely he would have bought 100 shuttles below 5k each. Break the packages and take the shuttles , no need to get so worked up.

If it's a trap, it's a poorly thought out one. All that you have to do is manage to get the freighter to the destination. You have 23 hours each day the contract is open to get this done. If it's only one jump, use a scout Once you undock your freighter in .4 space and manage to warp to 0km on the gate and jump through - you are good to go (CONCORD will make sure that in order to pop the freighter in high sec, they will have to lose a pretty sum of money).
Presuming that the contract is open for a week, the person who issued the contract needs to keep the station and gate camped for 161 hours. There's going to be a hole somewhere. You find that hole and the 100 million is yours.
