this.
to be honest I am not sure why there is even debate on this, he is trying to get a freighter kill or ransom either way, if its a kill he ganks you then hauls the freshly dropped contract load off to get his money back if its a ransom he can just include the reward in the price of his ransom and not have any problems there.

Here's one little trick to try:
The package cannot be broken without automatically failing the contract, BUT there's nothing that says you can't direct trade the package to a corpie/alt who can fly a freighter. If this is a trap, they'll be looking for the name that accepted the contract, not the other pilot. Trade back when back in High-sec and complete.
Also, I'd recommend spending a few million on a damned good escort to be in place before making this run, regardless of who's in the freighter. _______________________________

If it is a 1-day contract most definitely sounds like a scam where he'll try to camp your freighter. May be he made a mistake with 100 mil though, typed in an extra zero and it was really supposed to be 10 mil.

Or maybe he doesnt have a good hauler, but wants a bunch of specific types of shuttles in a specific station?

Wasn't there some limitation where you couldn't put a ship in your cargo hold if it has something in it's cargohold? So if one of those shuttles has something in it, you can't move the package and you will fail the mission.

Ah i see, 50m3, he was trying to make it look like he needs a battleship hauled into low sec and indeed has the collateral, which for a bs should be 100 mil, and reward switched. You can use the map to see if there was a gate camp there recently - some campers do set up various bogus courier contracts to attract traffic through the parts they're camping.

Oh well. I finished the contract, got my 100 mil - yet there is this empty space inside me that sucks like blachhole...It's called curiosity. The fact that I will probably never know the answer to the question really pains me. And the question is: WTF? :)

Edited by: Z3r0n on 19/12/2007 07:55:54 99% it's a scam (because who in his/her right mind would pay 100 mil to haul shuttles to highsec?!?!) and 1% it's a total imbecile that really wants to haul shuttles and got the collateral and reward mixed up. But I'd say it's infinitely more likely that someone just wants to eat some freighter for breakfast.
Edit: just saw the response from the OP. Can only say: congrats to you, you found the dumbest "trader" in EVE.... the shuttle trader lol.

I already did that soon after accepting the contract; he didn't tell anything useful. But stating the facts: He paid me 100 mil to haul 107 shuttles between 2 systems adjacent to each other. Lets face it - the guy is either a complete idiot, or he messed up while creating the scam contract, or he had some other hidden agenda that is beyond my understanding. Whichever it is, he's not talking :(

I've got a theory.
Guy wants to scam someone out of some ISK for a large ship (battleship, maybe?).
Mark is untrusting, especially when he hears that the battleship is in lowsec. "But it's only .4, right next to hisec, you'll be fine." "Uh-uh. Deliver it or I don't buy."
"OK, but I'm 4 regions away so I'll have to make a courier contract. See, here it is."
Since the contract only shows volume and not what's in the package, he could use it as a way of establishing that yes, he is moving something big- like a rigged battleship or something? Then he can arrange to further his nefarious scheme, whatever it might be, the mark's fears assuaged by the fact that yes, something very big is being moved.
But he screwed up and reversed the reward/collateral when making the contract, hence the OP gets a nice bonus and the contractor gets 107 shuttles moved to hisec.
Just a theory, but seems to fit the facts. Can't think of another reason to want to move that many shuttles.

This looks like a case of:
1) He is too far away to do it himself and they are desperately needed for... something.
2) He is using you as a decoy while he moves out something supervaluable. He can follow just behind you and see if its safe, or if you get popped by the gate camp. Maybe his state raven or something.
Eitherway, he's obviously got ISK to throw away giving you a contract at that price...
Sounds like a silly way to gank somebody because it looks suspicious so anyone with sense will take an escort. and he's look silly if he tried anything... could be quite an earner for you though;)

align to gate
tada youre in highsec
i dont see how that can fail if you do it right ------

100 shuttles, times 100,000,000 + 500,000 =
1,005,000 isk per shuttle.
Those are some bargain shuttles. _________________ Burn. |

Oh I have a better theory btw.
Person called KillMeAndSeeIfICare innocently posts about a deathtrap in the game. Lots of visibility to thread, many views and lots willing to help.
One person later sees a courier contract for KillMeAndSeeIfICare and says to themselves "aww I remember that guy, I guess I can move his stuff for him" and goes to do the 1 jump move in their freighter.
KillMeAndSeeIfICare's fleet of lol and kicking your ass are waiting on the other side of the gate. _________________ Burn. |

well if its from lowsec to highsec i dont see what can happen.. a scout, a bm aligned with undock, undock/web/instawarp. then take your time and warp to the gate...
if not wartargets ofc
will they suicide a fleet in highsec for this crappy cargo?
can those heavy dictors break the wtz like dictor bubbles do in 0.0? i mean making the guy warpin at 50 instead of 0? ------

This is unused alt, and I posted using it just for the reasons you're stating here. But glad to see you are as untrusting as I was when I accepted the contract :)

*puts on his tin foil hat* The shuttles are used as a covert way of gathering resources for building a death star under the nose of the Empires. Soon the whole galaxy will tremble in fear, and KillMeAndSeeIfICare will be partly responsible for plummeting the lives of billions into fear and cruelty.. wait, we Amarrians already did that. Sir, you can expect a copyright lawsuit in the near future. We are the only ones that may be responsible for such cruelty. (In case your main is Amarrian, you will ofcourse not receive a lawsuit, but a commendation and prayer). *takes off tinfoil hat*

Contracts are full of stories
Such as people placing navy raven BPC's for 400billion (4bil tax gotta hurt for contract fee)
People, as appears to be in this case, making silly contracts in error
Or sometimes people placing good value items to trap people. For example, my transport ship alt, super tanked, got suicide ganked by a few domi's from the same corp as the person I bought the mods from. Sure he knew I was coming to collect some pimp mods. They got me as I undocked from station and attempted warp, so I was stuck with the 30 redocking timer, which was more than enough to leave a pretty loot can. Lesson learnt, but obviously the trappers got their isk for the items, and my loot can was a bonus :)
So anything can happen with contracts so its a case of Buyer beware! --

Originally by: KillMeAndSeeIfICare Edited by: KillMeAndSeeIfICare on 19/12/2007 01:32:43 Ok, here it is:
I got some public contract, the public contract had 500k ISK collateral and 100 mil payout. It's a courier contract, it's in low sec, it's 1 jump. Essentially it's 1 jump from 0.4 to 0.5 - volume is 50km3, so it needs a freighter. Container is full of...shuttles :)
So what gives? Is thrill of blowing up a freighter worth 100 mil ISK to someone, or is there some other catch that escapes my sight?
Edit: Added the shuttles info.
Was the contract issuer's name Lofty29 by any chance? _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. You have'll have to find some alternative means to do Your Thing, dude. |

Mixing up collateral and reward isn't a good theory either. Who would accept a 100m collateral and a trip to lowsec in a freighter for a measly 500k reward?
The theory that this guy is an idiot is imo still the best.
