I filed a bug report, but maybe others have figured this out already...
I installed the game per the instructions, and when I run it - no matter what settings I choose, I get as far as the login screen, only it doesn't load all the way. See graphic here:
The debug log shows an unhandled exception:
Quote:
warn:debugstr:OutputDebugStringA "UnInitError: al hasn't been initialized\n" warn:debugstr:OutputDebugStringA "An exception has occurred. It has been logged in the log server as exception #3" warn:debugstr:OutputDebugStringA "\n" warn:debugstr:OutputDebugStringA "PREP: 0.00463 sec 'res:/UI/Texture/UITexLib_04.dds'\n" warn:debugstr:OutputDebugStringA "PREP: 0.00481 sec 'res:/UI/Texture/UITexLib_02.dds'\n" warn:debugstr:OutputDebugStringA "PREP: 0.00786 sec 'res:/UI/Texture/Icons/icons73.dds'\n" warn:debugstr:OutputDebugStringA "PREP: 0.00178 sec 'res:/UI/Texture/selectionglow.dds'\n" warn:debugstr:OutputDebugStringA "PREP: 0.00403 sec 'res:/UI/Texture/Icons/icons38.dds'\n" fixme:xrender:X11DRV_XRender_Finalize Free cached glyphsets err:seh:EXC_DefaultHandling Unhandled exception code c0000026 flags 1 addr 0x4000ce73
I might have to throw XP back on this machine (dual boot), just so I don't waste my subscription trying to figure this out. -- Jonathan "Xyrith" Walker Hobbies: C/C++/PHP/Java/.NET Formerly of... UO, EQ, EQ2, DAoC, Lineage, SW:G, WoW, AC2, AO, Tantra, DR, GS4, LoT, and many more...

Delete \<can't rememmber the path right now>\CCP\EVE\settings folder and try again. It worked for me :)

Well, the path would be:
Quote:
~/.cedega/EVE Online/c_drive/Documents and Settings/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE
(Don't forget to encase in quotes or escape the spaces, but if you're using EVE on Linux, you should already know this :P)
I did this, and it *did* react differently, but it had the same end result. I'm going to repeat and turn debugging back on to see if there's anything more that I can see from this.
This time, the login screen flashed what I think it was suppose to look like, then showed up similarly to how it is in my previous graphic (though the resolution matched what I set cedega to).
Thanks, and I'll be sure to post any other findings here. If I fail at this, I'll be resizing my Linu x partition for an XP install. (I kinda need one anyway. :P) -- Jonathan "Xyrith" Walker Hobbies: C/C++/PHP/Java/.NET Formerly of... UO, EQ, EQ2, DAoC, Lineage, SW:G, WoW, AC2, AO, Tantra, DR, GS4, LoT, and many more...

Okay, I switched the files to my other server - so when I tinker with this computer, they'll still be up. Here's more information. It's still doing the same thing, with the same debug data, only with the cleared settings there's a lot more "Bad stuff" lines.
So, the files:
New screenshot, same thing, Note the resolution is the only thing that changed
Some data that might help you help me :)
Sysinfo Config Eve Debug log Xorg.conf nvidia-settings.rc
Thanks in advance. I'm going to add my config data to the bug report, just incase.. though I have a feeling that's not it.

Hi, I had a similar problem. If u press the <ESC> key, do you get the config screen ?
I had a problem like that. problem was that i used "pulseaudio" as my sound server. it seems that Eve doesn't like that one. Because if i stopped the server Eve started okay. I removed pulseaudio and cleaned up my /tmp and /var/tmp . Restarted eve i had a working version again.

Here's yer first problem: From your xorg.conf file:
Section "Device" Identifier "nVidia Corporation NV25 [GeForce4 Ti 4200]" Driver "nvidia" BoardName "nv" <------------------------------------------------------ BusID "PCI:1:0:0" Screen 0
See that arrow? See the video driver? That is NOT THE NVIDIA BINARY. Mate, you need to go here: ENVY
download that program. Run it. Then check the following after its all done:
glxinfo |more
first page top of info you should see: direct rendering YES 2nd page of info you should see nvidia 169.07 as the driver.
Without the binary nvidia driver you are not going to get anywhere.

Actually he is using a Geforce Ti 4200 card, so he will get "OpenGL version string: 1.5.8 NVIDIA 96.43.01" if he uses Envy. It installs the legacy version for those cards.
From nvidia:
Linux IA32 Latest Version: 169.07 Latest Legacy GPU version (1.0-71xx series): 71.86.01 Latest Legacy GPU version (1.0-96xx series): 96.43.01
Im not really sure what legacy version really means though, but I cant install the 169.07 version either for my Geforce 4400 Ti.

Edited by: Sevarus James on 31/12/2007 15:35:46 My bad, yer right, but still, that ol' card...I'm not sure the legacy drivers will work. iirc the 5200 fx is about the lowest 'good' card on the pole, and that...ain't all that good.
I'll be interested to see if this gets working though.

Yeah, its not really high tech anymore is it...:)
I checked the system reqs for Eve in the knowledge base, and it says "GeForce 4 - MX420 / MX440 / MX460 / TI 4200 / TI 4400 / TI 4600 / TI 4800" is OK. Thats for windoze though, so who knows...

No, its not high tech anymore. scary how fast that happens though eh?
I couldn't remember off the top of my head about that, but I thought that was below "spec".
Now off to see if I can get that TNT card to work.......j/t

I remember buying one of those Geforce DDR cards to one of my first PC computers (Geforce 1 family) and it allowed me to run Unreal Tournament (the first version ever) at max detail with at least 80 fps. :) I think I had a Pentium 90 Mhz with windows 95 or something.. it was uber.
A lot has happened since then...
