I'm starting this tread in hope that new players will benefit from the stories posted here (if any) and so we can all remember the good old days.
Here goes my cute little story : Back in 2009 my main was born and he rolled gallente. He tried everything for 3 months in this typical order for a newb, like mining, missioning and ratting in CVA's infamous carebear friendly Providence. One week I hit 300m from some rare rats and trying to sell that faction stuff I discovered contracting. Over the course of the next month my balance reached 5b and then some. I ran all over EVE in my cloaky tristan (specially null sec), at times, when not in NPC space, getting on the soft side of important internet spaceship people who would give me access to their stations to grab my loots. Implants, harvester drones and faction modules was all I traded in. I think it was the best carebear EVE start I could ever dreamed of.

Good thread. I wouldn't really call you a carebear though, carebears take no risks.
Heres my story.. I worked hard for 8 hours every day for a month. Logged into EVE, start missioning and PvPing.. Lost all my ships & my ISK. So then i bought 2 new shiny plex. Yum
Aw.. My story sounds lame |

Anyways first stories are nice. Keep them flowing so we can all enjoy.

Mission running I think. Can't remember precisely, a long time and many characters ago.
I do remember my first million though, solo trading NPC good in low sec with a Badger Mk. IIGǪ It did not last long as you can imagine |

I made my first billion ISK running nanotransistor reactions. After that, I got cold feet and switched to something that doesn't require me to be a floating space pinata. The thing is ever since then my wallet hasn't ever really gotten higher than 1-2 billion ISK. I keep buying things . |

I got it through mining and manufacturing those minerals into bullets and missiles. But this took a couple of months before I learned to focus and build a plan. Before that I was just cruising through space without any direction. Posted with an alt, I learned the hard way not to post with my main. |

I bought me a Tempest Feet Issue early on as my first ever battleship, never could fly it properly. Then I took a year-long break in eve. After I resub'd I found that the price for Tempest Fleet issue had QUADRUPLED whilst i was away. OK, it was not a billion, but 700 M on resubbing- what a nice bonus for coming back - needless to say that I sold the ship instantly. -.- |

My first billion was mostly from mining and station trading. I wouldn't do that (well mining)again, not with the gank happy crowd we have today. Why are my neocom icons so tiny? Oh, you can widen and narrow the bar. Cool.-á |

Crystalline Carbonide reaction. So easy to get 3/4 required components in low sec, or 0.0.
Now it's not as easy as back in 2009, but still not bad as far as I've seen. "Have you had your morning coffee?" -> the Coffee Lovers Brewing Club is recruiting! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=363976#post363976 |

I don't see anything wrong with that They're a godsend for people like me who can't play more than two hours a week.
It's how I made my first bil. Never was successful enough in 0.0, didn't know the right people, and when I did I couldn't play enough to make it worthwhile for them or me. Plus I had a bad habit of buying the most expensive ship I could get and then blowing it up with some really crappy fits. I watch local even in highsec now, hehe.
How I made my first 100mill though, that's a bit more interesting...Mined tritanium in a backwater 0.7 system surrounded by lowsec (therefore no more than 4 people in local, sometimes no one but me). Hauling my mins out of there was quite the adventure. With it I bought my 2nd Domi I had ever owned, then promptly lost it in a wormhole. mined for it again (trit was at some ridiculously high price) and when I got my ship back, I started running missions. This was right when Apocrypha came out. Now that I have some capital and actually know how to play the game, I think I'll go to wormholes again. I like to lick things.

I made my first billion isk ratting in 0.0. I had finally decided to train for a carrier. It took about 2 loooonnnggg days chaining BS in a -0.3 system to raise isk for the skillbooks and the hull. I can still remember the system and its 23 belts. I had the system to myself for almost the entire time.
I got a nice boost when someone else came in for a couple hours and got a Megacyte hauler spawn. I don't remember the name but they split it with me.
It was way back during RMR or Bloodlines, I think BS rats payed out less in bounty back then. |
