I have the following laptop:
Inspiron 9400 1.5GB RAM 2GHz ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (with latest updates) Windows XP media edition
And I have a graphics issue, it's hard to explain.
Heres a picture of it thanks to eve-files: http://eve-files.com/dl/142411
Thats what it looks like when i play the game, other ships, gates and objects are similar to that and the objects flicker, if that is the term. I have been told it maybe a RAM issue as my computer says it should be able to play the premium graphics option.
Little help

I have the same issue, and pretty much gave up on the new graphics becaues I didnt' want to tinker with my graphics settings to much, however if you go into your graphics control center and play with the shading it will fix the problem.

By latest updates, on the graphics driver, how do you mean? What version of the Catalyst drivers are you using??

what do you mean tinker with the video shaders? can you give me a step by step?
And when i say latest updates i mean going to the ATI site, finding the update meant for my video card and downloading and installing using the catalyst control center, so the latest updates, if you give me a few hours i can tell you what exactly i am using or what was updated on my laptop, however i am more interested in the "tinkering with the shaders" thing on the video control.

As far as I was aware, you cannot tinker with the shaders. Only reason I asked is because usually when you update from the ATI site it only updates the Catalyst control centre, not the drivers. Because it is a laptop graphics chip. The official way of it being updated is to use your manufacturers site for the drivers, but these are always out of date. What I do on my laptop is use this: http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/ It adds the extra lines to the driver inf file and enables the latest drivers from ati to be installed onto your system, I get much better performance and stablitity doing it this way.
Good luck.

Same problem and of course huge AA problems too with premium graphics.
Core2duo running at 2.5 GHz 2 G of kingston ddr2 RAM running at 666 MHz 7950GT
I can run three accounts in window mode easily (each filling the whole screen) and performance is great on each of them. But the problem is that flickering(?) and AA doesn't work. AA only works on that account wich I boot up as first. The second and third will not get AA working at all. And the first looses it's AA after few alt+tabs..
Staying on classic untill this gets fixed.

No, that mod tool thingy didn't change a thing....infact i don't even know what it did do. I still get the flickering problem with the graphics.
I could give out more screenshots if you really want of it all, but i don't know how to proceed. Every now and again someone says they have the same issue but no one responds with a proper fix for me.

Got somthing new to say about the problem.
I tried to record it using FRAPs so that i could send people the problem and they see what is up or see what i am seeing. As soon as i activate record on FRAPs it stabilises, its fine....no flickering, no issue at all, but as soon as i stop recording it goes back to flickering and being sketchy....
what the?

The following is a picture of the log in screen
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/dhall/evepremiumissue.jpg
Its really really really annoying, the downloadable exe that sees if my laptop can play premium says it can, the thread saying requirements says my driver and systems are suitable and usable for premium graphics and it only runs normally when i am recording FRAPs? This is serious bull....
i'm really miffed at this issue

I get the same problem with my laptop. The solution I have found to work is to simply cool the computer down a bit. Most of the time when I start to get flickering or graphics problems its because my graphics card and ram are starting to overheat. You could try using one of those laptop cooler things since thats what I use and it seems to take care of it.

Edited by: Svensgaard on 24/01/2008 00:12:52 Edited by: Svensgaard on 24/01/2008 00:07:23 Its not a cooling issue, my laptop doesn't overheat.....nice fan :) And even if my laptop has been off for a day or two if i start it up and log onto eve the problem still exists....
Its weird that the issue dissapears and the game plays properly if i start recording using FRAPs lol otherwise its all flickering, the picture up the top kinda gives a bit of a show. I would record it and send it out as a show of whats happening to me but er....yea FRAPs seems to cure it.
Only thing i need to know now is why the hell does FRAPs fix it and how can I use this to stop my game from going all flickery?
For a more detailed description: All i see is light reflecting of the many faces of the 3D images that eve presents, stations, gates, you name it....if its 3D i get a flickering effect where the faces turn back and forth from invisible, to dark, to light. Some faces don't even appear.
If someone needs to know more exact information about what hardware or software i am using then please ask. (might help to tell me how to find out the information you ask for - Running on Windows XP)

No one has a answer? The amount of views on this thread means its looked at and yet no one can suggest a fix? two have been mensioned, but they don't work for me using catalyst control center or device manager or whatever.....
I tried the FRAPs thing myself and I got the same thing, it fixes itself during a recording....
lol, this sucks.....the forums say I can use the premium graphics, my laptop can't play it properly unless its recording using FRAPs? I can't run fraps forever, that and it slows down my laptop as FRAPs does....
WTF? Seriously, do I need like another 512 RAM or somthing on my 1GB? or maybe another 1GB? Do I need to update my graphics drivers again? Apart from buying a brand new laptop just to play eve is there not a fix?!

the grafix chip is largely enought, no lags enough FPS. the trinity client even recomended i shoul DL the premium contents after installation.
started yesterday and today i updated my gfx drivers, the bug got even uglyer....

Oh thats good that its not just me, its other people too..
Seems CCP might not have a answer to this issue however as this thread has been alive for a long time and no real solutions have been mensioned, or atleast no solutions to my issue.

Interesting o_0
it COULD be an interval error of some kind: as if your GPU is drawing only the gameticks (coding term: every time the engine loops through its running code, its one tick) where half the textures are filled. In another tick, it would try to draw the rest. Not sure if thats the case but...
Im only a baby games developer but ill take a stab and guess the game engine draws everything in steps, ie. In this tick we will draw this, and in the next tick we will draw that.
Go to your graphics options: you know in the bottom left where that option talks about interval delay? Try tinkering with that. Might help. Might not.
Alternatively mess around with your displays refresh rate. if its 60hz try 80hz, etc.
Have 2x2 Ghz latop /w/ 2GB RAM and a 128 DX10 card. Vista Prem. Never seen the glitch.

Edited by: Pamela Eldritch on 30/01/2008 10:41:21 hi Tau Gollock
already tried all possible gfx options of course. when i change the interval, it either changes nothing or the game crashes (back to xp).
and as most of us have flatscreens, i do not think that changing the refresh rate can help. i for my part have a fixed refresh rate on my screen.
seems to be a developer issue they are hopefully aware. i made a petition in the game but got no answer. but they surely read their own forum (DO YOU?)
thanks anywayz - P. Eldritch

The best thing to do is bug report issues like this. Make sure you check this thread out on how to create a good bug report: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=585921
Logs, screenshots and hardware configuration. Include a dxdiag-file.
Looking forward to seeing your bug reports and nailing down the cause for this issue.

Edited by: Svensgaard on 30/01/2008 20:51:42 Ok, after submitting the bug report it reccomends I install new drivers for my ATI Mobility Radeon X1400. Any reccomended sites to download the updates for my driver? As the ATI site is really not helping...
It would be really really nice if anyone knew any.

FYI the problem I had with my Vista tablet running the premium content was the Intel 965 Video chip. It WILL not run the premium content. NO matter what driver no matter how it is configured, simply the Intel 965 chip set on my tablet will not allow the premium content to run. The same video errors, the same no ship etc.
this 2710p Tablet from HP does not come with a better video card; yes the premium content SAID it would run, sadly this was not the case.
Hope it helps.

ive seen this exact problem myself when running a agp version of a pci-e card on an old motherboard - ifaict the older motherboards dont place nice with the timings of the graphics card resulting in missing vertices and hence triangles - might be whats happening here but who knows!
