A tale of 2 installs
Over the holidays, i upgraded from openSuSE10.2 to openSuSE10.3 on a desktop machine(see specs) and on a laptop(DELL Inspiron 1720).
the installs went smoothly. In both installs, i used Yast to install the Nvidia kernel modules and drivers. to wit:
nvidia-gfxG01-kmp-default-169.07_2.6.22.13_0.3-1.1 - NVIDIA gfx driver kernel module and x11-video-nvidiaG01-169.07-1.1 - nvidia GL drivers.
RESULTS: DESKTOP
1. 3d acceleration is active but there doesn't seem to be much of it. The spinning gears test starts off fine but then 'bogs' down at the near the end of the test.
2. In EVE Settings/Display & Graphics the DISPLAY SETUP panel is blank. The other panels (Audio, General etc) are not blanked out. In Station FPS=20 to 24fps
3. In the Cedega Config panel: System/Hardware the cpu_ghz is reported as 1.0ghz (with SuSE10.2 it reported as 2.2ghz)
System/Hardware Settings SuSE 10.3 cpu: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ cpu_ghz: 1.0 <<<<NOTE THIS!!!! memory: 2013 videocard_manufacturer: NVIDIA Corporation videocard_type: GeForce 7300 GT/PCI/SSE2 videocard_ram: 256 agp_aperture_size: 508 videocard_driver_version: 2.1.2 NVIDIA 169.07 soundcard: HDA NVidia at 0xfe020000 irq 2 soundcard_driver: ALSA Version 1.0.14 machine_bitness: 64 kernel: 2.6.22.13-0.3-default x_version: Xorg Version 7.2.0 distro: SuSE openSUSE 10.3 (X86-64) GUI version: eve-000066 ::::::::::::: System/Hardware Settings SuSE 10.2 cpu: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ cpu_ghz: 2.2 <<<<NOTE THIS!!!! memory: 2011 videocard_manufacturer: NVIDIA Corporation videocard_type: GeForce 7300 GT/PCI/SSE2 videocard_ram: 256 agp_aperture_size: 508 videocard_driver_version: 2.1.1 NVIDIA 100.14.09 soundcard: HDA NVidia at 0xfe020000 irq 7 soundcard_driver: ALSA Version 1.0.13 machine_bitness: 64 kernel: 2.6.18.8-0.7-default x_version: Xorg Version 7.1.99.902 (7.2.0 RC 2) distro: SuSE openSUSE 10.2 (X86-64) GUI version: eve-000066 ................................... no problems. The gears spin in a blur. In Station FPS=70 to 79fps.

Granted that the GeForce 8600M specs are beefier than the 7300GT but with suse10.2 In Station fps was in the 40's and not the 20's. And then what happened to the panels in the 'Display and Graphics' panel in EVE?

Honest answer? Not a clue, try reinstalling the Cegeda client. It spams files all over the shop so one of those could have gone awol or been over written.
As an alternative you could try using Wine, seems fairly resilient to such hijinks.

Let me explain a bit on whats going on and see if we can help you find a solution. The values CPU information value detected in the System/Hardware Information page is done by check /proc/cpuinfo. Now, many Linux distributions have a CPU speed limiter installed to save power. Basically if you only need 800mHz of speed then your CPU is softclocked down to 1gHz but when more power is needed its "unlocked". So if the CPU isn't under use when Cedega checks /proc/cpuinfo the incorrect information will not be presented. Now the really interesting thing about this Cedegea NEVER uses this value in gameplay. Some of the data collected in the System/Hardware information page is used, just not the CPU info. We provide that for support reasons. So while the CPU information is correct it is not the cause of this slowdown. What I would recommend is this: 1) Try disabling the scheduler. 2) Try installing the drivers directly from nVidia rather than using the ones YAST provides. While glxgears is not really a good test for acceleration the fact it bogs down makes me suspicious. I have in previous versions of SuSE found the precompiled binaries available through YAST simply didn't work properly.
