Since I finished my capsuleer training, I stopped watching the stars, maybe got used to them always all around me while in space and they became a common sight.
It has not always been like that for me, I spend my childhood watching the stars, dreaming about leaving the dirt and flying in space.
Recently, I regained some interest in watching the stars, it was when I first saw this strange bright star in space. I travelled through the galaxy, trying to triangulate its position, but I found nothing. My calculations got wrong, or there's something strange about it. I'm not much of a scientist, so, I'm not so surprised in my failure trying to figure the position of this star. But as a pilot, I would really love to know more about what it is.
If anyone have some insight on what and where is this star, or even if it's really a star, I would be glad to hear what you have to say. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

your never goin to get an answer that everyone will agree on im afraid.
there are so many theories and so many wishes about what it could be.
most have said its just a clusterwide glich in the pods interfaces that creates this star, personally i doubt this and in time (all be it i have no idea how much time) the true reason of it exsistance will come forth |

What you are seeing is quite probably the second star in a star system. Jump gates can only function in systems with two or more stars (because resonance nodes are required), and so all systems which are linked to the gate network will have two stars. For some reason, however, the navigational computer of almost all capsule-fitted ships will refuse to identify it, or warp towards it. ----- "I am prepared to meet my maker; whether my maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter." |

Unfortunately that mumbo jumbo about binary stars is a bunch of bull. No binary star systems exist in the universe, and stargates are not in any kind of alignment to be in the supposed "resonance" positions between them.
My theory on it is that it is the Eve Gate ;)
Well, either that or a supernova detonated by the Jove.

People really should stop taking that article as law. It's so immensely factually innacurate as to be almost pure fiction at this point.
1) the article explains how modern stargates connect to all other stargates in the area simultaneously, allowing you to choose your destination all from one gate. This is not the case.
2) the article describes how stargates have to be at certain gravitic resonance points between binary stars. In actual fact, any old lagrange point will do.
3: it describes how the creation of a wormhole is a trial-and-error affair taking months. Modern wormhole technology actually allows us to instantly and succesfully create functioning jump portals 99.999% of the time by locking onto a cynosural field.
I wish to the God I don't worship that somebody would finally come along and replace that damned article with one that is actually CORRECT. -

due to the fact that this star can be seen from all known starystems in the same direction indicates that he is realy far away-> outside of the charted cluster we call home. stars dont get born "over night" novae do-> its a normal, far away star transformed into a nova-supernova or a superheavy star colapsed into a black hole and now sucking in the sourounding dust and gas clouds and those create the imense light intensity. if the second is the case we need to carefully whatch evegate as it possibly have unprdictable effects on it, one possible effect can be the creation of a new wormhole tunnel between the evegate and the new blackhole and therefor, if stable enough, opening access to new areas in space. give the astronomic faculties some time to investigate and we will soone get an aswer

You're ignoring one major point, there - that the "star" appeared simultaneously in every sky in every system of the cluster simultaneously - a cluster, I should remind you, that is several hundred light years across. A phenomenon visible to people in, say, Tenal would not show up for the people in Paragon Soul for a very, very long time.
It appeared simultaneously in every system, on the same day as a major update to the capsule interface software. Until somebody can give me conclusive proof otherwise, I'm sticking by the "glitch" line of reasoning. -

The glitch in capsule software is interesting, but... Yes, I rarely come out of my capsule and don't spend the time outside watching the stars. But if it's just a glitch in our pod sofware, we should not see it while outside, I think we need to get a bit outside of our pods and check this! Also, if there's a glitch in the jovian capsule software, who will fix it? I don't want my brain to burn abd be sent to clone facility just because there was a bug!
There is nothing to make me feel good about this star at the moment, and that's not getting better each day. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

What you all are forgetting of course is the fact that whatever this ‘Star’ is, it is obviously in a region of space as yet unknown to us. And as such, it must be some considerable distance away even from the closest stars at the edge of our part of the galaxy. The light from this ‘Star’ may have been travelling years, tens of years; perhaps even thousands of years before it became visible to our part of space. However, there is one strange anomaly even with this theory, and that is, by any law of physics, the light from the ‘Star’ should have only been visible to those systems at the very edge of human space first. It would then take many, many years for it to have become visible to the other systems much further in. If anyone can explain why something becomes visible to all systems simultaneously then I would be most interested to hear it.

I don't believe the new star to be a 'glitch' but rather the updated software has allowed us to now see what was there all along. It stands to reason that when the software was upgraded that the sensitivity was amplified, thus we see more detail, thus we see the 'new' star.
I think that this may represent either something bad that happened, such as a nova, or possibly a new wormhole in the process of opening. Either way I can not escape the bad feelings I get anytime I see it. Perhaps I am being over jumpy but it makes me uncomfortable.

Yeah, everyone has their own theory. I'm convinced it's illusory, but also benign - something that'll get fixed with time.
I do like the idea that it's the New Eden Anomaly we're seeing, though - that at least is one stellar feature that's been around for long enough for the light and radiation to have propagated across the cluster.
I suppose the best option is to wait and see if anybody publishes a paper on it or something. Who knows, maybe there'll be a GalNet documentary on it. -

The eve gate you say?
Well, it's quite at the center of the galaxy if I remember my astro-geography classes and I think that from at least one of the systems I used to try some mesurement, it should have been on the other way! Also, it looked like being upwards to the galaxy plane, which is not rightly where the eve gate is located.
Maybe it's a spacial anomaly and not a star, the mention of the eve gate made me think about this : What if it was the light from the other end of eve gate collapsing? It happened a long time ago, and we see only now the light from this even on the other side. It makes sense to me. Also, there might be a reason for the light to be so bright so far away, the collapsing wormhole may have attracted all the light of the explosion this way? Then we could guess the distance of this galaxy to the one of our ancestors. This idea is quite exciting. But I have not heard of any technology able to jump straight in that direction, our current jumpdrives can't just jump into the void, we need something to lock them into. And using a standard warpdrive even the most high tech one on a light fast ship would take too long for any chance of survival.
I guess I should have spent more time listening to the classes at school, I can't remeber exactly how long ago was the eve gate collapsing. Anyway, for every light year, a high tech ship with all warp modifications (like a warp rigged helios) would only reach 21 AU per second. One light year being around 63241 AU, then it would take at least one hour per light year and I guess several weeks of warp with an uncertain outcome. Most of the time in such an expedition would be lost on the time needed to charge the warpdrive and cooldown times, which slows much the travel. As frigate class ships are not equiped to spend months in deep space, it seems not yet possible. But if my guess is right, I hope one day we can travel -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

Edited by: Evanda Char on 10/01/2008 13:59:07 The point about it being visible, and becoming visble in all systems in the cluster at once is very interesting.
To me that would suggest that it isn't all one "star". It would have to be several somethings. One per system.
I'm afraid the Eve Gate invisibility of the object could be explained, could it not, by the light from the object being obscured by the nearby luminance of the "gate"?

The fact it appeared in all systems at once could be collapsing wormhole effect... Still, it is strange, but the gravitation of all the stars could have broken this wormhole effect and just leave this light coming from the other end of the eve gate to all systems of the galaxy. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

I’ve been consulting several noted professors about this strange anomaly. One of them has suggested that as the ‘star’ is being seen in all known star systems, it may well be a ‘hyperspace beacon’. He explained that a beacon placed in hyperspace has the potential to be at all places at all times. There is a very advanced theory, a bit beyond my understanding, which demonstrates that it could be possible for an object in hyperspace to become visible. Now, what the professor did not go into, for obvious reasons, who or what may have placed said beacon…

Interesting theory, close to the concept of the collapsing wormhole issue, the main difference is that it means someone has created a permanently stable wormhole for the beacon.
Or is it not a beacon? At least, there's something... -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

If it is a beacon, Why are we able to see it now? Surely the upgrades to our Pod Software could not have been what has made the difference. And Many other people are seeing it as well, the Non-Pod Captains as well. So I know it makes me a little nervous. I wish to put forth a motion for Concord to Send a Expeditionary force to investigate it. We should be turning every sensor array towards it to study it. We need to know if it poses a threat to our star cluster.

Not another of these misguided 'Earth' seekers? I thought that we had seen the last of this theory last time it was debunked on Galnet?
I do not pretend to have any idea what this bright Star is, but it is clear from recent reports you may have seen when onlining your neural interface in your pod, that capsuleers are far from the only people that can see this.
The fact that it outputs the entire spectrum of radiation, as well as it's omnipresence and simultaneous appearance across all of the cluster, is very worrying...

Where?
Study up on your ancient history more. Well, it's more like legend now, but many people hold it to fact. We know we came from another part of space through the Eve gate, and before that we had already expanded to many, MANY planets. Supposibly, the first planet humans inhabited was Earth.
According to this theory, we didn't have races as we do today, I don't think. If you speak to an Ancient History professor or, better yet, a THEORIST, I'm sure you would get a better explination then I could give.
On topic, I've wondered about this for awhile. It's obviously not a glitch, or we would have gotten a formal response from those who issued the camera drone upgrades. Could it be a binary star, the Eve Gate, a super nova? I have no idea, but I will continue to watch it. Forming theories is one thing, but I'm gonna wait until I can be sure before I form my own. -------------------------------------------------- My post does not represent views of my Alliance.

Rather than the apocalypse, if you believe that such a thing could occur, is it not more likely that perhaps there is an alternative group elsewhere in the universe capable of transcending the laws of physics and time, that set off an intergalactic torch for us to view and be puzzled by? That it occurred during our lives is the only part that seems infinitely unlikely to me. ---

I have had some time to think about this today, and I am by no means an expert in such theories, however, here it goes.
What do we know about this mysterious light in the sky?
- It showed up in every known solar system at the same time
- It has very abnormal readings, it is not a star at all
- We don't know where it is coming from
- We really don't know anything at all about it
What do we know about interstellar physics? I'm not a professor or anything, but what little knowledge that I have gained from talking with other people and from researching GALNET...
We know that wormholes allow us instant access to other systems that are several light years away. What if, lets pretend, that a wormhole could open up, that had one point in space that was connected to multiple other points in space. Not the linear wormholes that we go through now. For example:
We use wormholes to go from Point A to Point B, and vice versa, but what if we could go from Point A to Point B, or Point C, or Point D, ad infinitum? What if this wormhole was stable enough that it remained opened, and did not close?
The theory that was in the news is an interesting one, the theoretical "white holes." Perhaps this could be an offset of my wormhole theory?
1 Blackhole, somewhere in the universe, that opened up several white holes, simultaneously? This could account for this so called star becoming visible in every system in the known galaxy.
Or of course, it could always be these so called Enhuadinni or whatever they are called.
Anyways, just my two isk on the subject.

Hmm... has anyone considered the possibility that it is not a natural phenomenon? I do not mean a supernatural occurrence, but a man made one? Could it be some type of new jump drive or warp drive technology?
But how could the light hit all the systems in the cluster at once? It is possible that the light from the object did not instantly materialize out of nothingness, but has been cloaked by some means we do not currently understand. Yes, it is possible that this is an entirely new phenomenon, that the light was instantly transported light years and miraculously arrived in every system on the same day, but it is quite unlikely.
Of course, I am not a recognized expert in this field of study. I am simply skeptical of any "prophetic" links this phenomenon may have. If it was predicted, then I must bow to the genius who discovered this phenomenon.
Currently there is not enough information available. I would like to publicly ask what the various research institutions plans of action are in this matter, as this truly does warrant a full scientific inquiry.
On a related note, I would like to ask CONCORD if they are planning an investigation of their own, as this phenomenon may have an impact on the Capsuleer community as a whole.
