So holy crap, lords of the realm 2, best turn based medieval rpg, or best turn based medieval rpg ever?
The problem is, after having recently discovered my poor under appreciated LOTR2 disc and blowing the dust from its glorious surface, I discover after a time spent installing and fiddling that the game has decided not to work.
Now I know that many of you are wizards in one respect or another, technical or otherwise. So I was hoping one of you might help determine the cause for this sad state of affairs.
The cd works fine and seems to install the game correctly, but when running it the game seems to be under the impression that I do not have the cd in the drive, and insists that I rectify the situation before allowing me access to the precious yet antiquated singleplayer experience.
Now, after some internet-spelunking I have found many many many people with the same problem as I, yet no solution that has been discovered through my internet adventures has brought me a solution.
Some people have suggested that the game does not recognize a cdrom drive if it is a letter other then D, so I placed a line in the game config file that goes something along the lines of 'CdRomDrives=4' which is supposed to tell the game to look in the fourth drive for the cd, but this did not work.
Basically I am wondering if any of you have attempted to get this game to run on a windows XP system successfully. If I run it in compatibility mode for windows 95 or not the game opens the start menu fine but continues to refuse to acknowledge the existence of my CD, much to my utter disappointment.
So! Discuss the game, possible causes of this problem and/or solutions, but most importantly, enjoy yourselves at my expense!

1. make an ISO (or other) image of the CD (using Nero or any of the dozens of programs out there) 2. Get Daemon Tools and install the ISO image as virtual CD drives. Daemon Tools can simulate most of the old copy protection features. ------------------------ I don't believe in sigs. |

Alas, I have tried that and it too does not work. Even after fiddling with the various copy protection mechanisms Daemon simulates, I was unable to get the Lords2 game to recognize the CD. This is most disappointing as I am sure you can all agree. For those who have played Lords2 you know just what joy I am missing by being unable to access it. Curse ancient copy protection schemes, curse them!

This should solve your problem. When you can't convince a game to accept the CD, convince it to not need it at all.

Tried that too, yet the helpful no cd patch doesn't do anything at all. It loads a command prompt and quits itself. If you open up a command prompt and manually run the file, you get an error that says quote: "Runtime error 200 at 0037:0091". and the game continues to not want to work. I have found other people reporting the same exact problem with that same no cd patch.
Most unfortunate.

Edited by: Avery Fatwallet on 09/01/2008 14:23:42 sometimes copy protections can be very stupid...
some programs dont run, if you have cd burning or emulating software installed
on a sidenote: i have absolutely no idea how to cure that problem, BUT if its really only a problem of drive letters, you can change those around freely in windows xp.
right click on "desktop" or "my computer" and then select "manage" from the menu (hope its called that way. its the 4th option here). then select the option for drive managment.
you can rightclick all your drives here, and simply assign drive letters as you see fit.
after you checked, if the game wants to run if the cd is in drive D: dont forget to change the drive letters back. else your system might get a bit confused once in a while...
tbh id check if i could find another no cd patch for that game. or get the publisher to send me a new disc. yea right.
