First-time CEO here. I've come up with a name, a logo, and some seed capital for a new corp in Amarr space (I figure it's less crowded, there'll be more opportunities for miners and industrialists, and by the way the ships are better looking) and am now looking for a good place to set up headquarters.
I re-rolled this character and decided to start as a newbie, recruiting newbies, because I really want to start from scratch. So I'll probably start with missioning and low-impact mining, try to move into manufacturing as I recruit some industrial players, and go from there. What should I be looking for in an HQ system? I'm thinking in the future we'll want access to markets, to good mining locations, to great missions, to jump clones and research agents, and what else...?

Well, dont really have any knowledge of the benefit of declaring a station your HQ, but I advise you to put it far from where you really operate, because when you get wardecced by some empire griefers, they will probably start hitting up that area looking for you, if they dont live near where you really are and know :p ___________________

Edited by: Xaziar Nortocus on 10/01/2008 06:30:32 Just ONE office (the HQ) is not advised, as mentioned by Ackaroth, wardecs will make it easy prey for those camping your HQ. Remember, the location of your HQ DOES show up when someone does a "show info" on your corp.
Suggestion? Multiple offices in different sections of a region, or across multiple regions. Reason being is that if you recruit those of other races, they could still do missions for their respective factions. Also, they could be used as safe havens or rally points in the event of a wardec, well away from your HQ.

May i suggest joining Goons? You will get barely any PvP cause we have good standings with everyone.

I didn't say I didn't want PVP! I PVP whenever I can with my 4-month-old toon (who shall remain nameless) but I don't think it's the best way to start a corp. As I said it's a corp for noobs (who will hopefully grow with the corp) and most noobs can't make money by PVP.

I dont think he "gets" goons
Dont concentrate too much on your headquarters for all the above mentioned reasons. concentrate on what you can offer pilots who may be interested in joining your corp, and have set goals and try to stick to them as much as possible but be willing to adapt.

If my main didnt have 35m Skill points I would love to reroll his stats.
Offtopic: There should be a feature in eve where you can pay to redo your stats. I didnt know what the hell I was doing when I first started :(
But to answer your question, do some prep work, find a nice place with some omber roids in .5, they are plentiful. You can make quite a bit of isk mining low ends for Nocx, as well if it has an ice belt in it as well thats a sure fire isk maker.
Good luck. sup?

Look for a few things:
You want a system that is within 4-5 jumps of a large trade hub, for whatever region you choose to settle in.
You also want it to be close to lowsec and 0.0, in case you want to go play around in a few months time.
Make sure that it has a cloning center, refining and manufacturing in the same system would be best.
Make sure that it doesn't have a ton of L4 agents, because you'll hate it in a short period of time because of all the lag and associated sillyness.
Also, remember that you can always open other offices if you want to move somewhere else.

As a newbie corp your official headquarters that show up in corp info should not be anywhere near where you operate. If you get wardec'd the headquarters will be the first thing to check out for the corp that dec'd your corp. So, make the headquarters be somewhere in a low sec pirate nest like Rancer or Amamake hehehe
then open up an office or two near populated systems like Jita, Rens, and Oursulaert and when you recruit newbies into corp direct them to apply at that office

Since there are no benefits to operating out of a HQ do as suggested and plant it far away.
One would hope there would be some bonus to the HQ which during times of peace would be prosperous and during times of war would ensure more engagements.

Interestingly, when you "show info" on my corporation, the headquarters is the system where I happened to be when I pressed the 'create corporation' button, not the system where I rented my first office. Kinda neat.
My office is in a minor mission hub near some major mission hubs, and this has proven to be good for recruiting other noobs to gang up with me and run missions together... which I perceive as a good strategy for finding some eventual corp mates. What do you think of this recruiting strategy?

I think that this thread will get nuked by a Mod as soon as it's seen.
Apart from that, the way your recruiting does work and gets you a semi good view on what they are capable of flying/using.
You have to assign a HQ to a station, i suggest like mentioned before to dump it far, far away from your actual base of operations, and just rent a few cheap offices around the universe to deploy from.
Things to have on a station to office from, Repair bay, Med bay, Insurance, Refinery, Fitting.
I wish you good luck in the future with your corp.
