Sentry drones are good and balanced, one of the few things no threads are complaining about.
They have their uses and a big part of that is capitals deploying them to shoot poses or smartbombing ships. The problem is when you have more then 5 capitals on the field next to each other the chance is good that one is getting bump, and even if that one only moves a few meters it alrdy gets out of scoop range for those sentry drones. Especially when theres a fight on your hands you dont have the time and patience to move towards every single drone to get it back there are other things to worry about, so my idea was to give the sentry drones a small speed - maybe 25ms or 50 and have them automaticly orbit without being able to assign them to anyone etc.
25ms or 50ms cant be overpowered? -

nice idea and i like it
There is no moral difference between a Stealth bomber and a suicide bomber. They both kill innocent people for political reasons. |

If you can place them in a fixed location OR have them orbiting you slowly, signed.
If you propose to make them all move, pretty much fail.

Excellent idea. Abandoning them works (if you need to switch to something else) but is hardly a prefered option for dealing with the problem.

Just set them so 'return to drone bay' starts them moving at the slow pace? Otherwise they can stay stationary

Why not have it so that 'return and orbit' starts the orbit. Or would that be too logical?

*edit*
Even moving slow, I would think this would mess their tracking up a bit more though. So, no. I cant see it being overpowered. They're stationary, same as now. If they move, their tracking gets nerfed a little while moving to make up for the fact that they are moving anyway.

Unfortunately the way sentry drones are designed, they actually work just like other drones. When they are targeted on something they start moving towards it.
Luckily, their speed is only about 1m/30 seconds.
I know this because of long 3 hour assaults on large poses using moros.
I started noticing that after 30 minutes my drones were too far away scoop anymore, and being in siege mode, I couldnt follow em.
I would tell them to come back, and in about 30 minutes, they would go from 1620m to 1500m and i'd be able to scoop them again.
This is just a long-winded way of saying, if you increase their speed they would zoom away at their target since their AI was done the same as other drones, just at a MUCH slower pace.

id like to bring this to the devs attention again, as right now while sieging a tower i wouldnt dare to use t2 sentries as abandoning 12 of them using a carrier would really hurt the wallet. -

Personally I'd like to see 2 modes for sentries; one where you can deploy them to a spot and they fire from this assigned spot (basically like now), a second one where they orbit your ship (they'd have like a 150m/s max speed) and fire from this orbit. This would allow you to at least move around some while using them, without having to go and pick up the drones afterwards. In addition, please fix the bug that causes sentries to sometimes appear 15+ KM from your ship on launch; that one is quite annoying.
