From what I've read so far, I think it goes something like this, but could someone please confirm and/or correct me?
1) A Black Ops ship can use the Covert Jump Portal to covertly jump ships in the gang into another system, but cannot follow through its own portal.
2) If someone opens a cyno field in another system, the Black Ops can covertly jump through it.
2a) On a side note, what makes it covert? If someone in the destination system opens a cyno field, can't that be seen immediately anyway?
3) There is no way for the ship to covertly jump from system to system on it's own.
Thanks

1) yes, but can only jump Covert ships - cov ops frigs, Stealth Bombers, Recons. And only a few at that. And it cant follow through its own portal, but once its jumpbridge is deactivated, it can 'jump' to its cyno like a normal capital.
2) No. A Covert Cyno Field is the only way of making a 'covert' jump. If using a 'Cynosurial Field', it isnt covert, no matter what ship you use.
2a) The Covert Cyno makes the cyno covert. A Normal Cyno isnt covert. It cant be seen on the overview, and the only way of finding it, is scanning down the frigate/ship using it.
3) Correct. To use the jump drive, you HAVE to have a cyno. Either a Cynosurial field generator on a POS, or a Cyno launched by a gang mate.

Hmmm, not sure I like the sound of that. How many gangmates can use the jump portal exactly?

I believe only 'covert' ships can use it. Thats the stealth bomber, cov ops frig, and recons. And the amount is only limited to the fuel you have. Which is one of the 'pre-nerfed' things on black ops. Theres only enough space to jump about 3 recons 3 jumps, or something.

Thats what they said about stealth bombers.....but used in the correct way and with planning and thought I am pretty sure they will get a result....It all comes down to how you want to play the game I guess.

Well, the idea that only covert ships can use the portal isn't such a bad one. The premise being that you can insert 'special forces' teams of cloaking ships into enemy systems past defenses and raise hell I 'spose. Which is exactly what I want to do.
But 3 ships? 10-15 would be ideal, but 3 is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. To run a 1-way op with 15 covops ships would need 3 or 4 fully trained black ops pilots. Thats a ludicrous amount of isk and skillpoints on the battlefield for a job like that. I might as well jump the gang to the target system manually - getting covops through gatecamps isn't that hard!
Ideally, the black ops boats should be able to carry enough fuel for an out-and-return trip for a mid size gang of covops and jump them a reasonable distance. As it stands, they look like an expensive and massively skill-intensive bag-of-arse!

Think outside the box a bit...load all the ships hold with fuel and they all jettison the amount they are about to use then jump. The black ops scoops the jettisoned amount then the next jumps and so on.
You can even get the first jump 'free' by filling up the black ops from a hauler after everyone has jumped through then sending the hauler home.
Having said that the restriction to covops ships still strikes me as stupid. After all they are the ships least in need of a covert jump anywhere, given they can mostly warp cloaked!

See, im split minded here. On one side, i think its excellent these ships have a niche role. They allow those who enjoy tactics other than gank and kamikaze fleets, the ability to entertain themselves. Also, I can also see a valid use for the Jump Portal. The idea with cans is something ive had all along tbh, but didnt really want to make it public But technically, theyre a portable Jump Bridge, without the Sov or Pos. If you bring 5-6 Black Ops, you have yourself a nice little task force and with nice dps.
However at the same time, they have huge limitations. Namely the cloak, and overall defence. However, thats another matter.

I like your ideas but really. I haven't tried the bridge since I had JPG trained to level 2, but at the time it took over 1500 to bridge a falcon 2.6 light years. Thats almost half or a third of my capacity in the Panther. And thats not even my full range (4.5 ly). It needs to be adjusted. I also agree about the cov ops ships limitation. I think the bridge limitation should be expanded to HAC's and Hictors as well.

Black Ops sound VERY interesting to me the only gripe i got with them is that they: a) Use to much fuel for not enough ships transported b) Can't follow into their own Cov.Ops Jump portal.(which is easely solved by 1 cov.Ops ship going in with a Cov.Ops Cyno
if they could jump more ships they'd be really nice to use pre-fleet ops. cause a bit of mayhem before a fleet ops somewhere and then just dissapear right away
oh wel... time will tell their best use i guess

Can a black ops BS warp while cloaked? -- DEVS get multiple CPUs/Cores per system and all will be forgiven.

I believe they have the same cloaking rights as a Stealth Bomber - so that would be no.
