When used, can all types of ships use the bridge? Or just recons, as I heard. //------------------------------------------------------

Only Black Ops can lock onto covert cynos. I unfortunately sidetracked an alt into cyno 5 with hopes of being able to quickly cyno regular carriers, found out that you cant =/

only other black ops (pointless as the would use theyr own portal), recons (the cloak ones only), cov ops and stealth bombers (not 100% sure on that) ---------------------------------- Seems that there's a new game that seems to be very popular whit whiners these days. Its called EFT Online.

Edited by: Das Forscher on 12/01/2008 20:01:26 just to be clear, this means when I open a covert cyno on an alt and open the portal generator with my main, my blackops will work as stargate, but only for recons and covert ops? that sucks big time //------------------------------------------------------

Edited by: Excesse on 13/01/2008 01:09:27 Changing topic slightly, can anyone explain away the problem I'm having with mine? With my JPG fitted I'm still getting no "bridge to" option whether I use a cyno array or a cyno ship. I've heard from many sources that you should be able to bridge to a standard cyno.

Actually no it does not. Its an exceallant means of getting covert ops and recon ships behind blobs and thus allowing you if your smart to set up fields in places that would require you to traverse through enemy lines in the past. Hence the term, "Black Ops".

Excesse, you're doing it wrong, you have to click on the person you want to bridge to in the gang window, same way as if you were jumping the ship, or a capital ship.

I tried that and it made no difference - still just the "jump to" option. Same goes whether I right-click on the ship, or on the broadcast you can see at the bottom of the screen. Petition time perhaps.

1: Pilot A lights Covert Cyno in target system (within 4LY) 2: Black Ops pilot right-click Pilot A in gang - "Bridge to member" 3: Portal opens for approx 20 seconds 4: All gang members in suitable ships right-click on the Black Ops ship (not the Black Ops pilot in gang) and choose "Jump to member". Timing on this stage is tricky due to the short portal life, so I just tend to try as many times as I can! 5: Optional - once portal is down, Black Ops pilot can right-click Pilot A in gang and Cyno to them.

And for the record..
You don't "need" a Black ops cyno to jump to. Either type will work, the Black ops flavor only makes your beacon invisible to overview...

ok, would u mind clarifying exactly which ships are "suitable"? recons and covops? stealth bombers too? and that's it, right? (well, other blackops too i assume)
anyways, as long as "local chat" works like it does now... black ops and it's whole tactical possibilities are absolutely useless imo.
last question: in order to put up a "invisible" (what was the name?) cyno field... does the generating ship have to uncloak? (probably yes ^^)

Yes, it has to be uncloaked in order to drop the covert cyno. Therefore, it can be probbed out. Defeats the purpose imho, but eh, I'm not a dev.

lol. kills the use TOTALLY. i mean, if you want to jump in a fleet behind enemy lines, you either do it far away, at a safespot... and you will get spotted by "local chat", thus the enemy will probably bug off... or you jump straight into enemy lines... which will be impossible if the cyno generator has to uncloak.
so, basicly... black ops is totally useless.

Suitable ships: Black Ops, Covert Ops, Stealth Bombers, Force Recons (not Combat Recons). The ship that drops the Covert Cyno does have to decloak to do so, but as the field is only open for 60 seconds unlike 10 minutes for the normal one, the chances of being scanned down and killed are very low as long as the pilot uses his scanner wisely and lights the cyno in a suitable safe spot.

For those who can't get the portal generator to work, you need to be in 0.0. If you're in lowsec and a buddy puts up a cyno (covert or standard) you won't get the option to open a portal. I know this because I ran into the same thing while testing with my black ops.
A couple of items to note:
It takes as much fuel to jump a recon as it does the black ops itself, and the black ops can only hold enough fuel for 1 or 2 recons and itself to jump once. I personally think this is broken, but apparently it's an intended game mechanic.
I dunno. I'm still of the opinion that black ops are the most pre-nerfed ships CCP has ever created. -Wrayeth n00b Extraordinaire "Look, pa! I just contributed absolutely nothing to this thread!" |

Wrayeth, you are completely wrong. Covert cyno's and jump bridges work fine in low sec. I have done a few thus far with no problems.
However, I do agree with the nerfed portion of your argument. EVE Online makes World of Warcraft look like Minesweeper. -Peter Cohen, Macworld.

I was testing with a normal cyno. That may be the difference - I can only say you can't portal to a normal cyno from lowsec. -Wrayeth n00b Extraordinaire "Look, pa! I just contributed absolutely nothing to this thread!" |
