I wasn't sure if this was right forum. But I figured that those browsing this forum might have a better answer for me.
My character is fairly new with only 2.7 mill SP and my only T2 ship as of right now is an inty. Currently I am torn between cross training into Gallente or Minmatar, both of which have their pros and cons. Especially with a missile and shield heavy Caldari character.
Now my question is which one would you all consider to be the wisest or most beneficial for a gang/fleet? It doesn't necessarily have to be the easiest. Either way at this low of a level the differences in training time is based in just a few days (T2 items are a bit different though). Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
And I apologize in advance if this is not in the right forum.

I'd say that the Ares ( gallente ) is a pretty good interceptor if you're looking in to that. Then again so are the minmatar ones. If you're looking for more shared skills then I'd definitely go caldar/minmatar since minmatar ships actually use missiles ( typhoon ) and use a shield tank. With Gallente ships you'll be training up armor tank, drones and hybrids mostly.
Then again at 2.7 mil sp I'd be looking into training bigger ships like a drake or raven in order to establish a steady mission running income.

Yeah, why cross train? I hate the idea of cross training, but if I had to I would go for gallente as they do the most damage.
But I'm a high sp minnie pilot so...

my planned skill path is to cross train caldari and amarr. their ships imo complement each other very nicely.
main reason though is that falcon and malediction are my favorite tech 2 ships.

I say Gallente. You'll fidn that as you train hybrid skills, you can apply them to Caldari ships too. Caldari and Gallente are the only two races that share their main weapons systems and therefore both benefit from cross training.

I tend to think that aside from logistics issues, Caldari are about the best support ships out there. We have the best gang EWAR (debatable I suppose but a few well piloted scorpions can turn the tide in larger engagements - something no other battleship can really claim to do in small numbers). Caldari also has the ability to tank VERY well without losing out on damage (damage that can be done from a very long range) at the price of tackling and whatnot. The Crow is capable of actually dealing some damage while flying at breakneck speeds, a feat the other interceptors generally don't bother trying to accomplish. Caldari ships only real weakness involves their relative weakness at solo PvP, though even that has changed of late with the recent torpedo changes.
As far as being useful in a gang/fleet situation, I guess it depends on what you're trying to do. Any gang can benefit from having at least a blackbird around, and getting enough EWAR skills to be useful doesn't invovle investing a whole lot of SP (Cruiser 4, ECM 4 and Signal Dispersion 3 lets you be relatively effective with a blackbird for example and that's only a month or so of training with bad learning skills).
Overall I'd say Caldari is probably the best race in terms of it's usefulness overall. You can rat and run missions with a minimum fuss and you can be an asset in gangs and fleets all without having millions upon millions of SP. Minmitar especially require tremendous SP investment to use their ships effectively (the downside of flexability) and Gallente ships generally have glaring weakness somewhere in their design (they just tend to do enough damage that you don't have time to properly exploit them :P) I can't make a comment on Amarr since I don't even really know people who play the race, though they would logically require a fairly substantial SP investment just to move from "glaring weakness" to "easily exploited weakness".
All in all, Caldari is basically the vanilla race - it isn't going to do any single task (other than ECM or mining or extreme range combat) better than the other races, you can just do any task "pretty good" without investing a lot of SP. If you find you like the idea of going at breakneck speeds and enjoy the idea of manually piloting your ship, minmitar is the way to go. If you want to deal tremendous pain at point blank range then Gallente is the king. If you want ships that excell at short term mid ranged combat then Amarr is the way to go. If you want a race that can do any of these things adequately and don't mind generally being a support ship (be it DPS support, EWAR, tackle) then Caldari is the way to go.
