It seems to me that the HUD is weak at best.
1) There is way too much right-clicking in this game. There should be more things you can double-click rather than right click (like double click a stargate in the overview to warp to zero). There should also be more keyboard short-cuts.
2) The local/chat windows take up a TON of space for the amount of info they provide. There should be a way to change them to a text-list view w/o avatar icons.
3) We should be able to move our shield display and module buttons anywhere we want on the screen.
4) Lots of other tweaks.

1) Left click in overview, Left click "warp to" in the selected item window, that's two left clicks.
2) There is a way to do this already.
3) Sure, Why not, Would be nice. |

Well you can already pretty much do this, at least. The conversation part can be made text-only and you can just flat out disable the memberlist.

they got that one.. forget how to do that and I'm not online atm to figure it out, but upper right corner of the chat box comes to mind.
oh and yes that would be great, they made some nice changes being able to move the fleet/drone/overview menus around now I can click F6-F7 instead of pressing it if I feel like it :)

Disabling the memberlist in a NON-OPTION in 0.0 and low-sec. There should be a way to display the same information in a way that does not take up 20% of your screen.
If I wanted to disable the list entirely, I would just minimize it.
What I am trying to say is that there should be a way to see who is in local, without having HUGE icons representing these people.
I have a TWENTY-FOUR inch monitor, and my local list can only display about 25-30 people. THAT is the problem.

Tbh, Local "Should" not be an intel channel.
Would certainly make the game more interesting. |

I don't want to turn this into a discussion of the USE of the local channel. However, I will point out this --- w/o local pirates and offensive gangs would have a TERRIBLE time finding anyone to kill :(
So local works both ways.
Now, please, back on topic.

I definitely agree on this one. I've always wanted to just be able to see who is in local in 0.0 without having the whole local channel up. Maybe being able to separate the chat window and the memberlist would work.
Also, there are plenty of keyboard shortcuts, and you can always create your own if you want. Hit Esc and go to keyboard shortcuts and put in what you want.

Oh i know it works both ways, That's half the fun ^^
Anyway, Yeah i certainly wouldn't object to a bit more Customization for the HUD, The game looks so beautiful without all the clutter.
It's a shame really.

While that would be somewhat useful id settle for being able to remove pictures from the member list, this should increase the amount of names that can fit in 3 or 4 times, or allow you to shrink your chat window that many times while still having a decent view of whose in local.

Most of the things you do a lot, like targeting, orbiting, keeping at range, adjusting the ranges set for those two, switch targets, unlocking targets, setting speed to max or min cannot be be linked to a key. Pretty much all of the options that you can currently linked to keys are stuff you dont use all that much and half of those are linked to keys because CCP didnt have enough time to add a button for them (Opening your fitting screen in space for example, or your drone bay) -----

Would be cool with a better drone status interface. Something like a small bar vertical/horizontal with a little icon pr. drone with status on top the icon. Pie chart with colors perhaps as hull, armor, shield indicator.
Maybe even a hotkey for launching the suckers. This kind of little features is unfortunately missing everywhere from the GUI. It's a tiresome click click click click click and double click (that never works right) party.

The game has only been out for five years. These things don't happen overnight. We will have a year 2008 interface in a decade or so.

-you can change it to just chat i believe and if you have a bigger screen resolution you can fit more on screen i have 1280 1280 i think it is or close to that
3) We should be able to move our shield display and module buttons anywhere we want on the screen.
-i believe it to be pretty organised where it is ..it in the middle where you have to look for all yoru ammo and ect where you drone window might be (well mine is and my fleet stuff is above it
4) Lots of other tweaks.
-i like it who it is if you want to fix something fix FOF for the tonrey that comming up

I have a 24 INCH 1920X1200 WIDE SCREEN and local still takes up too much space. You CANNOT set it so it takes up less.

I agree that the interface is sorely lacking in a LOT of areas. I run a 21 inch widescreen at 1680x1050, and I'm ALWAYS buried under tons of needless info, spammy windows, and other crap I wish was handled more efficiently. Add to this the constant obnoxious behavior of windows constantly being dragged in or out of places I didn't intend for them to go, disappearing behind other windows, and a slew of other unintended behavior, and it's enough to make you tear your hair out.
While you're at it, can we get some reasonable controls too? :\

If there was less "info spam" we could actually zoom in on our ships AND still see the space around us. That would make EVE a lot less like a chat room and more like a really cool game ;p

we had the last major interface-change, what, 3 years ago - so yeah i think it's time for a new one...
totally agree on the right-clicking
and i've already said this about 2 years ago - eve is too much "windows-like". you got your background/inspace-view and a ton of windows on top and nothing really fits together tbh.
also there's the status-display on the background showing the system, so you cannot place a transparent window on top of it but need to leave this free or make the windows non-transparent...why not make this display an small bar on the top of the screen where no window can be placed . just an example..
im not so sure if we need to have all possible freedom.. if it's designed nicely i would maybe not think about adjusting anything myself..

A series of "virtual desktops" might be nice. In Linux, you can switch between multiple copies of your screen, allowing you to have tons of stuff running at once, but only one set of things taking up your screen at the same time.
For instance, you load the game up. Open a few market windows or whatever. Then you hit alt+2. All the windows you had on screen disappear, but you still have your HUD and other basic screen elements there. Then you open up some other windows, chat boxes, whatever. You hit alt+1, and all the windows on that second "screen" disappear, and all the windows you had on the first "screen" re-appear.
This way you could have your market stuff going on one "screen", chat going in another, and so on. While not as nice of a HUD fix as I'd like to see, at least it'd be something.

This has been brought up before. There is only one real solution - give people the ability to code their own HUD similar to how WoW allows their UI to be modified. Then people will actually get HUDs that they like but you won't get them before hand.

I agree about the chat channel. I can not have local up in a way that it is not intrusive on the screen. I leave it minimised because I'm a high sec carebear so I can afford to, unlike folks that run low sec and have to keep their eyes open.
I'd LIKE to have local open, it's just too much of a screen hog atm.

Yes, EVE's user interface could use some changes for the better.
For one thing, it's the only game I've ever played that practically DEMANDS a widescreen monitor. If you have a standard 4:3 screen, and you're part of a fleet doing an op, you'll have something like 75-80% of the screen's surface area covered in menus, buttons and windows.
That's why people liken playing EVE to "playing a spreadsheet" (well, one of the reasons, anyway).

(1) and (2) are already possible. (3) I couldn't really care less about.
What I think the UI does need though is better item arrangements on menus and better yet customizable menus. Other than that it's not too bad these days. You should have seen it back in '04. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

The green flashing indication of active modules is very hard to see at the best of times, IĘd like to be able to change it to a colour of my choice.
The changes to the overview are a welcomed feature, but I would love a button to stick it all back together.
Many windows have a limit to the reduction size; I would like to be able to resize any window to any size.
The chat windows as mentioned take up far too much room, IĘd like more size options for avatars there too.
The main HUD also takes up far too much room, I would like more choices for its display, 3 bars would be sufficient instead of the big round blob.
I would like to be able to move the modules and targeted ship icons to a place of my choice, and have eve remember the positions.
I expect thereĘs more, but the first 3 listed here really bug me tbh.
