Hi all,
I apologize for the noob questions...I'm still on my trial and will probably want to buy this game at the end. Anyway, my question is what ship should I be shooting for early on in the game? I just got an Atron from a quest reward, and while I'm very happy with it so far, is there something else I should be shooting for? Most of my skills lean towards combat.

Go for whichever ship best suits the modules you plan to use.. Each ship gives bonuses to different items so you want to get the one that supports what you want to use. Also a good ammount of pwer and CPUis always nice so you can actually mound stuff on your ship and be able to turn eveything on.
An example is me. I am Caldari so I start out with missile skills in themid ranges so I use a kestrel since it has 4 launcher slots and gives a damage boost to missiles. If I am running EW then I use a Merlin since it has the power to run everything --Bird of Prey: Forum God

the myrmidon is still the best gallente PvE ship short that doesn't take 6 months to train for, I've been using them since I was three weeks old, even after the nerf they're still pretty good for both PvE and PvP.
It all depends on what you plan on doing, if you want to run missions go for a thorax or a vexor, then work on getting a myrm, then a domi for level IV missions about 6 months from now.
If you want to PvP stick with frigates, find a corp that's open to new players and willing to help them out and show them the ropes, with a frigate you can start out as a tackler and work your way up to bigger ships as you get more skilled and wealthy.
Look me up in game, my corp is looking for people like you who want to learn and can fit in with our culture so to speak. ... Why do I PvP? Because I love the feeling I get when I see the pretty lights and know that someone somewhere is screaming incoherently at their computer screen. |

I would suggest getting a Vexor (gallente cruiser) as soon as possible. Drones are extremely good in both pve and pvp, so you cant really go wrong. And while gallente is generally pretty uber, their frigates are not so probably better to go for the cruiser even if you cant use it very well for a while.
Alternatively you could train missiles and caldari frigate, and fly a kestrel as you get a lot of bang for you buck out of that ship. _________________ [IMAGE REMOVED] -- aka Cpt Bogus -- Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

How long does it take to train up to a Vexor?

My first advise to you is to specialise, stay with one race and stick with it. Then you should think about what you want todo, industrial stuff like trading and manufacturing or shooting things and see if your attributes reflect that - trust me, my ****ty attributes haunt me for my whole eve career.
to what race you want to use, all are good i flew all of them and like all of them, tho i suggest you gallente then minm simply because because of versatility. -

Should take you, at most, a couple of days. You'll need Gallente Frigate IV and Gallente Cruiser II. ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |

Possibly Imicus if you like drones (it carries 3 drones and has a control range bonus) but you have to be more on the ball to avoid damage.
Cruisers: Vexor if you like drones.
The Thorax is a better gunship but really for L1 and L2 missions I think the Vexor is the better solution. This is because drones are a much more efficient weapon system for missions than guns basically. Guns have range and tracking issues. Fit guns for anti-cruiser work and you're sub-optimal against frigates. And vica versa. Drones OTOH you can carry for everything without having to refit.
You can also despatch drones out to your max targeting range (50 odd km?) to kill stuff without really having to move the ship. Guns have more limited range and you're stuck choosing between long and close range ammo and weapons.
The next step would be battlecruisers but what I recommend you do is put time into support skills (Energy Management, Energy System Operation, Hull Upgrades, Repair Systems, Drone Interfacing... the list goes on) while you're at the cruiser stage.
So. Yeah. Main choice is guns vs. drones. EVE RELATED CONTENT |

Wow the guy just started and people are talking of cruisers and battlecruisers.
If you are in an atron now, your next ship should be an Incursus. After that maybe you should think about Vexor.

i have found that one of the best combos for a Thorax is blasters and drones, then even if the npc's get close you can still blast them out of the sky and have your drones shootin them up at the same time, however for my myrm i have it fitted with all the drone upgrade modules and use rails to pull them in and let your drones tear them to pieces

First of all, if you're doing missions, a destroyer with 1 or 2 ranks will get you through most missions, after that... a vexor, then a myrm for lvl 3 missions, then a dominix for lvl 4.

best way to start for a gallant is go all drones all the time. If you choose the right paths at the beginning you can end up with drones V and some other very useful drones skills that will allow you to easily progress though pve content.
