Hi, I was planning to set up a remote pos in remote region. Moon mining will be one of the money making with pos. Now I have ran into some problems. The remote pos will be self sustaining to some point. There will be ice near by, so refinery is needed. Since refining ore / alloys will be a waste (RIGHT?) ice refining will be 100%. Moon harvester + couping array + silos is needed but how many of each. Reaction array (NEEDED? To Make Money Or Just Sell Raw?) Lab Might Be installed later on.
I will also need hangar array, ship man array maybe ammo array.
This looks like 2 pos are needed but what size? If 2 large that might be a huge investment and might not get profit for some time. If 2 small, that might not be good. If 2 mediums, that might be good? If 1 large 1 small?
Remember, this is a 2 man op with 2 alts (maybe).

Edited by: Laura Steel on 19/01/2008 23:41:39 It depends what your mining. Scan the moons, check out the simple reactions, check out the complex reactions you can get from those, check if you can do the second simple.
Two simple reactions can feed two complex, i.e two large POS, with enough room for the corp hanger, sma, ammo array and defenses.
Or you could just use a medium and do a simple reaction. I wouldnt bother with a small.
Moon harvester -> Silo
Or Moon Harvester -> Med Reactor <- Moon Harvester with the output into a Silo. Indeed, the smallest refinery can refine ice 100%.
In any case I recommend caldari type towers(for moon mining operations), and faction is a good investment. If your at the stage were you can think about possibly setting up 2 large pos. I`d just put a small one up in empire for labs(as you did say lab, so I assume not that many of them). And since its a small corp standings are easier to get. ----

ok thankz, soooo you can mine 2 materials in the moon at a time but need 2 harvester. now with the (moon harvestor > reactor < moon harvestor) setup how long does it take to fill up? (moon harvestor > coupling > silo) wont that be better? (silo + silo > reactor < silo + silo) this is what ive seen....
but the problem is 2 large might not be the stage i am at :P medium x2 maybe large + small maybe medium + small maybe

Edited by: Laura Steel on 20/01/2008 02:27:16 It depends how many moon harvesters you can fit. I believe the most you`d use is 4, provided the moon had 4 different minerals. Mining 2 or more of the same mineral seems to be bugged at this time.
It depends on what your mining. A silo has 20'000 m3 of space and a Moon Harvester will mine 100 units of the mineral per hour.
A medium reactor will take two different moon minerals and produce 200 units of the simple product per hour. It wont fill up that fast, check every couple of days.
A coupling array is not required. When anchoring the silos and corp hanger array I suggest placing them so a ship can sit inbetween and drag stuff between them hence limiting the time a Silo would be offline.
I have to stress that you scan the moons in the systems you might want to put your POS up at. If your not sure about reactions, pos' or investing in larges then a Caldari Medium control tower, 2 harvesters, medium reactor and silo. This requires that the two minerals you are reacting are at the same moon. If not it would be another Silo and One harvester and a small pos at the moon with the second mineral.

This Setup For SylramicFibers ALL GALLENTE TOWER WITH SOV 3 Mined Materials: Silicate Evaporate Deposits Chromium Platinum
Simple Reacted Final Product: Ceramic Powder Hexite
Final Product: Sylramic Fibers
Large CT1 Silo(OUTPUT A} -| --- Silo (Final Product) Silo(OUTPUT B} -|
Moon Harv --- Silo (Output C)
Medium CT1 Moon Harv -| --- Simple Reaction (OUTPUT A} Moon Harv -|
Medium CT2 Moon Harv -| --- Simple Reaction (OUTPUT B} Silo (Output C) -|
This Setup Will Cost 945.5mill. But How Much Money Would I Yeild Per Month? How Much With Fuel Deducted? How Many Isotopes Etc Can I Get Out Of 1 Cube With Mobile Refinery? How Long Until I Need To Move Things?
And Thankz For Replying To All My Post And Questions....

1-2billion isk per month, after deducting fuel costs. 300 isotopes for standard ice and 350 for named ice. Once its up and running you should check back every couple of days.
When you make enough money I suggest replacing one of the mediums with another large. It can do the same job as well as using the excess simple reaction products to do another complex reaction.
Caldari type control towers are much better for moon mining ops as they can run 2 harvesters a simple and a complex reaction, including a coupling array and silo to take the excess product.
That the ice may not give the correct isotope for caldari towers should not stop you from getting them, you can jump the isotopes your not using out when your selling the complex reaction products and buy in nitrogen isotopes with the trade good fuels. ----

oh wow that billion is all profit wow nice... if i say we got 2 - 3 people running this, would it be hard.... some people say it is a full time job? I wanna rat or mine while this is going. Hoping for a more passive setup :P. Is the current setup going to be a pain? How would you improve it? should we mine ice or just buy it? we have weekly frieghter / rorqual support **I THINK** Else we might need to do something about it.
BTW Thankz For Taking The Time

2-3 people, its possible. I'm assuming they will have the roles to manage pos'. A useful skill to train is anchoring V then train for managing the guns. Haulers are needed but that should't be a problem. Having someone able to fly a rorqual would be great, but its very possible without it and in any case you'd most likely need the profit from the reaction to get one.
The reaction does not need to be fretted over constantly. I suggest letting the 'Output C' fill up, then move it and start the simples. Then let the simple reaction silos fill up, then move it so the complex may start. Keep an eye on how long it will last without moving more over.
I'd only mine ice if I was doing it with a dedicated ice mining squad, bonuses etc. In terms of value I can get more ice by ratting for an hour and buying it than mining it for an hour. It also means your free to do other things than having the pressure of fulfilling an ice requirement. The profit from the reactions will pay for the fuel.
If your worried about supplies to and from empire, than stock up on a month or two extra fuel for each pos in the corp hanger, and store the products from the reactions there also. ----

what do u mean? can u redraw diagram or do i just wait until it fills up? and is the 1-2bill FULL PROFIT or do i need to take away 300 - 500mill of fuel?
btw wow you have helped alot

A Large tower uses between 180-240mill a month in fuel, depending on which tower you use. only a few of the Moon material can pay for the Large tower fuel need and still make profit.
I have build a Sheet to handle fuel calculation and material/reaction calculation, try it out, it can very easy show you which moon material you will profit on mining. try it out here

Sadly the best way to learn is get out there and set it up. If it does not work, then you did something wrong. Also three big things to worry about...
DO YOU OWN THAT SPACE? -find out ;P IS THE PATH TO REFUEL IT SAFE? -20 0.0 jumps with gate camps is not a smart idea. IS THERE A MARKET FOR WHAT YOU WILL BE PRODUCING? -if the market is flooded or low demand, how will you pay for your fuel and other stuff?
Also I would keep the storage of ships and modules there to a minimum. It takes no time at all to take one down, so if you are in a small corp, worry about it. If you are in a big alliance, then dont. ----------------

thankz guys :p space = ours route = not sure may be long demand = not sure planning to haul to empire to sell
for the spread sheet, still not sure how to use it to calculate the money (profit) i can update market price and stuff but still having troubles

*************************************************************************************** Is There A Way To Mod My Set-Up For Same Things But More Efficent And Less Money In Set-Up? Maybe Add More Reactions For More Reactions? I Want To Know How To Improve This Setup? How Would You Guys Do It?

A while back, when I wanted to learn about POS stuff, I spent a few months on SISI scan probing, moon harvesting, researching, inventing, reactions, T2 Production, building capital ships and constructing siege towers before I deployed one of my own on TQ.
I also saved a lot of ISK because I knew exactly what I was doing when I went live on TQ.
HINT: SISI (The Test Server) was mirrored a few days ago. If you log into now, you skills should be just a few days behind.

Yep im trying to do it on test but, how often does it mirror? and how can i see if it is efficent? prices are all screwed and for scanning, i dun have skills yet :(
