Hey can anyone here give me a few pointers on fitting a chimera. I have read all the posts and as most of them are before trinity, i am not going to invest in them much.
- this is what i have gathered that would be a good setup
High - 2 DCU - 2 nos/neut/rep/booster - 1 smart bomb
Medium - 1 Capital sheild booster - 1 t2 boost amp - 3 hardeners (invuln II) - 1 Sensor booster II w/scan res script The last slot im not sure, maybe another hardener or possibly target painter if i dont have support.
Low this is were ppl seem to argue some say power relays other say pdu's..
Now this is for a general fleet setup, not giant blob warfare. And not against 5 dreads. -Allot of people say put faction/officer mods on it, but as any sane person would relize. Those mods may save your life but if your down to that point chances are your screwed anyways. So im not spending billions on mods. Any help would be appreciated.

High - 3 DCU - 1 Cap Shield Transporter - 1 Smartbomb
Meds - 1 Cap Shield Booster - 2 DG/CN Amps - 3 DG/CN Hardeners - 1 Cap Recharger
Lows - 3 PDUs - 1 DCU II

never flew one, just looking at it in EFT, because im bored...
i would be tempted to go with cfcII because that makes the cap shield booster permarun without penalty.
although stacking best named CPRs with SBAs works, too, with lower tankable dps tho. but its less prone to neuts.
oh and IF you want to go faction... maybe 2x CN/DG invuls and a DCUII as the only resistance modules would work?

this, and change the highs accordingly - the ship really needs high Carrier skill to make use of that resistance. . .
Overall, the Archon simplyy has a better tank, more sustainability and remote armor repping is a little more useful then remote shield transfer. . .So even though I have been tempted to train for the Chimera, I may take the extra 30 days or so to do Amarr BB 5 for the archon.

Without faction modules chimera is quite average. If you ready to spend about 700-800mil on fitting, than i think it will be something like this: high: 2 dcu\smartbombs, cap energy transfer, cap shield transfer, triage mod. med: cap shield buster, cn amplifier, 2 cn invul, 3 cap recharges low: damage control, 3 true sansha cpr rigs: 3 CCC
With proper skills this give you ability to run you shield buster forever, even when you in triage.

Corp mate of mine can perma run his capital shield booster on his Chimera.
Chimera has probably the strongest tank out of all the Carriers, if you use Crystal Implants.

Were it not for the fact that crystals don't work on capital shield boosters...

Oof. Chimera needs this:
Highs:
2x smartbomb 2x capital shield rep 1x cloak
Mids:
1x capital booster 2x boost amp T2 2x dread guristas invulnerability field 2x sensorbooster with scan res
Lows:
4x true sansha capacitor power relay
Rigs:
3x ccc I
Tanks 5.4k dps perma with alot of cap to spare for remote repping, and has awesome lock speed.
Bring it on, i can take it.

I dont see the point of the cloak, if i wanted to hide id be in a buzzard. and again there is the question pdu's or power relays. Some say pdu other say pwr relay.

Cloak = ability to go afk. You'll like that, especially hwen you've got a gf or kids around, and i have neither.
CPR's = Infinicap(tm) No debate.

Edited by: Byzan Zwyth on 21/01/2008 20:11:07 For on the field, dont use DCU's
1x Capital remote shield rep 1x Capital remote armor rep 1x Cloak 2x Large smartbomb
1x Cap booster 2x T2 or faction boost amp 2x Dread gurist invulns 2x Sensor booster II & scripts
4x Faction (dark blood/true sansha) capacitor power relay (~25mil each)
CPR boost penalty is stack nerfed, 3rd one is just less than 5% penalty, 4th is stuff all penalty. Also the fitting req's for CPR's is really low.

ok so what if i fit 3 cpr and 1 damage control II. Damage controls will boost my resit pretty high.

and I dont understand why do people suggest PDU's. I can probally do all the calculations and figure it out but Id rather get an opinion from people that fly this ship nd have experiance with diffrent fittings

I never really liked using the CPRs or CFCs because of the penalties. I use PDUs because they add shield and stuff (I use officer PDUs though )

yeah i see the penalty but they stack nerf, so the sheild boost amp will counter that and give you the cap to boost. Only problem is if you cant boost the DPS. Thats were I see the PDU and damage control come in handy.

Why is that then? With Carrier 4, surely having 2 or 3 extra drones is a massive increase in damage? 33% extra damage infact.
Or are we thinking spider tanking ability > damage output?

Because a battleship can do that extra 33% with no hassle. Your role is to rep and provide logistic support. All fighters do is lag up fights, and that isnt your role.

Faction CPR all the way.
My fit is pretty much the same except I have Faction Boost Amp, and an EM hardener instead of one of the sensor boosters. And Heavy Neuts up top. _________________________________________________

I have a similar setup to this, but don't get anywhere near the same tank as that going by EFT. My char has pretty much perfect tanking skills apart from Carrier V ( can't see it making THAT much difference).
The best defence efficiency i can get per EFT is about 3800 roughly. I know EFT is not perfect, but for these sort of calculations it's normally spot on.
Can't see how to get near that 5400??

Ok very nice, but I only get roughly 3.8K permatanked in EFT using max skills and your setup. Sup wit dat? Is that with gang bonuses and implants maybe?

Carrier 5, standard blue pill boosters. I've got the 5.4k in my head but its been awhile.
*edit* according to EFT its 4.4k tank + 20% from booster = 5.3k
