I am currently running a small Salvage Corp. to some success. There seems to be lots of wrecks just sitting around in empty space, I normally scan these out by finding the drones that have been left behind. if i find that many grids were people have forgotten their drones how many must be out there where people have remembered to take their drones with them? What impact does this have on server performance?
Changes I would like to see implemented, to boost the salvaging profession.
1) The ability to scan for wrecks in empty space. I can understand that people running missions might get upset with this but if you made wrecks have the same signature size as drones then you should only really find them if they are not in deadspace and there are many of them.
2) The ability to tractor wrecks. - This should criminally flag me, the same as taking loot from a wreck. Most of the time the wrecks have been abandoned
3) Tech 2 salvage ship. I know this has been covered by another post but an Interdicitor with bonuses to tractors and salvgers would be ideal in my opinion.
Thank you for taking the timr to read this.

Edited by: NightF0x on 22/01/2008 21:19:08 1. /signed - If they make it to where the possibility to scan a wreck in deadspace was near zero it should satisfy the mission runners
2. mixed signed - Not sure if I'm really for allowing someone to tractor wrecks that don't belong to them. It seems that there should be some penalty for salvaging a wreck that isn't yours. You can easily make up for it with a MWD and since most of these abandoned wrecks aren't in deadspace it is a good counter to not being able to tractor them.
*Note: When I'm referring to ownership it is the person that destroyed the ship and their ability to tractor the wrecks. I still don't agree with some that salvaging a wreck should be a criminal act...and no lets not discuss that here
3. I have no opinion on this one. If CCP feels that they need a specialized ship then I'm all for it. If not then I can deal with using frigates, cruisers and destroyers.
Great ideas and hopefully CCP expands on the salvaging profession because it would greatly help server load and clear a lot of clutter left behind. I would like to add that if they do work on salvaging as a profession that they allow wrecks to last longer in space. With the large missions (level 4's) there isn't always a lot of time between when someone turns in a mission and before the wrecks pop.

Wreck should last longer IF THEY ARE NOT EMPTY....empty wreck should last ..let's say.. 5mn, the more inside the wreck, the more it should last, up to 2h30 as a max. For exemple : - wreck nŠ0 is empty : lasting 5mn (not including loot) - wreck nŠ1 got 1 circuit in it : lasting 1h - wreck nŠ2 got 7 circuits in it : lasting 1h45 - wreck nŠ3 got 15 circuits in it : lasting 2h30

Edited by: Jaketh Ivanes on 25/01/2008 15:27:42 Yes, if salvage is a profession, it should have it's tools in place. That you can't scan for debris is a big mistake, in my opinion.
No, allowing people to be able to tractor other peoples loot (hidden in the wreck) only leads to harassment and exploitation.
There i no need for a dedicated T2 salvage ship.. we don't even have a T1 salvage ship.. Think we should have that first (and no, destroyers are not salvage ships by design, but they do the job very well, just like an Apoc is good at mining).
