I have on several different occasions started a corp with a few noobs, but I find it's really difficult to get into 0.0 without paying someone rent somewhere.
I'm sure back when the universe started out there was plenty of space to go around and everyone could generally find a spot for their corp to thrive in, but once you outgrow empire - there's nowhere to go.
So instead of flaming(), answer this simple question:
If you were a CEO of a small corp that needed 0.0 access now, but wasn't sure how much income the corp would really generate (people weren't on every single day nor were they mining every single day), where would you go?

Owning space means that your preventing other people from owning it, most people that want space are not ready for this.
No matter how big you will make eve, this will always be the case.
If i where you i would look for a nice alliance to team up with.

but i agree that the EvE Universe could get a boost - i remember the time when the Rekord was at 13'000 Players online.
Why not a second Empire space behind 0.0 - with lets say about 10 routes to go - only "save" for jump freighters... and some more 0.0 Systems would be nice too...

no more empire, seriously, you can't think that more empire is the answer

Edited by: 7shining7one7 on 23/01/2008 08:54:54 seriously bro, eve is big, real big. you can fly out in 0.0 and meat nobody at all at times. (offcourse all depending on where you fly), offcourse some regions are more populated than others.
as for your particular case, mine some veld/ice in empire till your skills become higher and also recruit some pvp'ers that can run protection and scout recon for you.
you can't expect people to just leave you alone if you go mine in 0.0. rather plan accordingly.
and please don't do the "pet" thing, they'll walk all over you when they get bored one day and decide to blow you up because you have some nice stuff. not to mention a lot of them will think your macro miners, cause it's sometimes hard to distinguish. if you have a fleet though and you actually take up some private convo's if someone tries to start stuff, then things will be different.
the macro hunters will leave you alone, and you'll be able to defend yourself rather than living on the hope that some of the pvp'ers aren't having a bad day and decide to blow you up to make them feel better. this happens a lot...
so toss the "i'm with some noobs and we want our little piece of 0.0 for free" forget about it. this is eve, not hello kitty online. you gotta fend off for yourselves.

That's not new. Early on all there was was NPC stations in 0.0. No conquerables and no pos's or outposts.
So yes, there was relatively more space. But I remember mining arkonor in deep 0.0 and needing to haul it twenty jumps to the nearest refinery. There may have been fewer people, but fewer bases as well.

A 0.0 Pirate NPC region like Venal, Stain or Curse (most stations in those, but there are more). Do a forum search for the term "impaired" and you should find a smallish guide on how to set up there.

correct, but there has only been a small period in Eve history where this was a possibility. Most corps out there have either fought or negotiated their way into 0.0.

Edited by: Aeryn Davenport on 23/01/2008 09:35:30 Personally, I would join an alliance or go to an NPC 0.0 region.
However, EVE is plenty big enough. Your issue is that you want 0.0 space that's completely empty and no one will bother you in. That will never happen.
The truth is though that there are huge expanses of 0.0 that are barely used, if at all. Alliances have simply taken over those areas for bragging rights and to deny that territory to their enemies. If someone tried to come in and use it though they would probably put up a good fight for it simply because it would give them something to do. But more often then not when you fly through 0.0 you see huge expanses of nothingness.
The problem is that not enough of the small corps who gimp around in Empire, low sec, or the fringe of 0.0 have the balls to join up and actually try to take some of that territory.

not just 0.0 though.
it would be a nice addition if there was also another high sec/low sec area discovered, maybe half the size of the current high sec which would not connect to the currently existing high sec. there should be large low sec and 0.0 between the two.
that and more 0.0 maybe this could be jove space? old jove stations and jove gate guns with automated response to crime ala concord but by some weird drone ships.

Each allience has one goal in mind,no matter what way shape or form.
Dominate and win eve...The way to do that is own as much or all space, any easy space to take over is either contested zones(my first allience found this part out the hard way)or about to be taken...No matter what you do.
I suggest you find a place that has a paper tiger allience or corp owning it(best works in low sec)and get a military portion to your corp. This is what happens when a kestrel with thermal missiles declares war on earth |

Actually, just thinking about it, ice mining could be really profitable in 0.0. If you can get a deal with the locals as a supplier, you're already partly on your way

No way more empire!!
There is already several times more empire than its needed. And in empire does not matter if its crowded or not, no one gonna kick you out of a given region.
In fact I would REMOVE high sec stripes between each of the 4 empires and make them into low sec.

Like it or not, there are people who prefers to stay there. We simply cant neglect them because We who prefers deep space tells them they should stay there too. So yes, more empire space.
In a way, this game is "not" first and foremost a PvP game or a PvE game. its first and foremost a Sandbox game with choices including non-consentual PvP. After all sandbox is about choices. That incl. PvP. And in a sandbox people can stay where they like. And if they want to they can do missions to their heart is bleeding for all i care.

Us the Rorqual for what its built for.
Find a quiet 0.0 system (dead ends are good, and there are loads of them)
Send in a cloaked cyno ship. Get in positon, Drop the cyno Jump in the Rorqual. all the miners jump to the rorqual (it can have a clone service). Pop out your Hulks.
Your Cyno ship now becomes your scout, not in the same system.
and your good. Any hostiles next door. get safe
stay for over 24 hours. Send the Rorqual back and forth as required. and hay presto "The solution"

so your solution for a noob mining corp is, get a rorqual and a dousin hulks and a cloaked cynoscout?
yes put all your isk in 1 capital ship and pray that your cyno scout is good enough and doesn't get popped.
excellent, why don't you recommend him a system while your at it

Thanks for some of the great replies. I will (and have) saved much of the info given and will certainly try opening my options.
But this game still has some issues along these lines and it's not the only MMO to have the same issue. There's no real sense of "noone within 100 miles" in any of the games I've seen so far. And altho the combat and fleet ops can be fun, it can be fun to go get yourself lost in the wilderness too. Just can't seem to find that particular freedom - even online.

I can agree that there's enough of high sector already. Just look around for nearly empty space (not in Caldari) and you should find it easy enough. There's plenty of 0.0 as well, but all taken, naturally, as the best rewards are there and because people are selfish.
What we have left now is lots and lots of low sector space that no one wants to claim, because there isn't enough tasty rewards there to justify the risks.

New corps shouldn't be in 0.0
End of conversation. If they want to be in 0.0 they have to have the skill to survive.
I'm in a 0.0 that does "not encourage mining", in fact if they seen my Rorqual they would be too tempted to kill it themselves. So we ninja mine (as I posted before).
If you can't fly a Rorqual and you need to move stuff in indys, then forget 0.0 you won't last without the owners permission. SIMPLE!

OP, i feel ur pain, ive not gone the route of joining a big alliance, at the moment my corp has 10 active players, We live in stain.
For a couple of years weve had lots of battles with russian corps flying under the stain empire banner,
Its very hard down there, and ive lost many ships, however ive noticed as my corp grows its getting harder for them to camp us and stop us ratting,
I propose that u and ur buddies come down here and we can work together with the possiblity of forming an alliance, it will be a good laugh I have vast minerals and all t1 bluprints and i will build t1 ships and modules at mineral cost for you. and i do frequent runs to sagain to collect t2 stuff to aid us in battle.
The other day i got my Nighthawk jammed in a belt by stain empire, cos i got 2 pc's i had my alt on standby in a rook, it was so cool, 3 ships had me pinned down, my alt warps in jamms all of them, allowing my Nighthawk to safely warp.
So the key here is to think outside the box a little, they can only devote a limited fleet to camp us, and even then their backup always takes a few minutes to arrive.
Even with ship losses and camping we still make more isk than if we were in empire.
look me up buddy.

This above all other posts so far is probobly the most accurate and helpful thing you should take away from this discussion. I agree that Eve is not a game where you can find a corner in the game, hide away playing essentially a single player game in a group. Eve requires you to participate in the larger community and in fact requires you to compete against it. You have to accept that you are part of a community which cannot be controled through mechanics requiring instead that you act through your character as a leader of your corporation and I'm not talking about role-playing, I'm talking about normal playing. Most people you will find take Eve pretty seriously.
As a CEO of a corporation your approach should be one of acceptance to what this game is, rather then what you hope or wish it was. Once you make that transition you'll find a very challenging, a very exciting and very enriching game experiance. If you do not, you'll find yourself feeling harassed, persecuted and down right griefed, a sentiment many Eve players express on this forum. You could say that those people who complain in this way simply don't 'get' Eve and find themselves excluded in a way from the community simply because they refuse to accept it for what it is.
Your choice as a CEO is simple.. take your corporation to the next level and join the Eve community or choose to fight a battle against an established community that has no intention of changing anymore then CCP is willing to force a change in your favor.
How do you join the community with your corporation in tow? Seek out other community leaders and start negotiating, as a CEO this is your primary function.

Yeah I am here checking out various systems etc at the moment. There are a lot of decent mining systems, but most seem camped or being used as bases by hostile pvp-only corps.

I havenŠt read through all previous posts, but I can somewhat agree with the OP.
IŠve seen the universe change since 2003 when I first started. In beginning it was awesome, but rather empty indeed. Back in 2004-2005 there was some pretty good times, at least for my part, and now when I look back the universe felt so much bigger then. Well of course it did, there were less people playing ( minus one region).
I do on the other hand, like the feeling of a populated universe too. THereŠs plenty of coporations, items to be bought almost everywhere and a lot of targets for us who like to PVP. Lately IŠve been playing less and less, most because of my lack of time (school, work, etc.) but also because everywhere I go it has already been "occupied". And by that I donŠt mean all the 0.0 space + alliances, but everyone else too.
I donŠt want it to be less people, I just want more space. Back in the days you could roam around, find new places and "make your own land". Today, that requires so much more! I canŠt go to some "distant" space and start living there without getting in to trouble ( I love PVP btw ).
In short: I DO want lotŠs of people, but I also DO want more space for people who like to be a little less disturbed and interupted. Geez, IŠm talking back and forth all the time. So, more space !
