Ok, so right now I'm training up to use the astarte, and will probably follow that by training up to use the phobos (gallente dictor). Together, the two will probably take about a month, and I'll continue to work on various other skills. So I'm not in the least bit worried about what to do with my skill training.
The problem is, I have a bunch of money, and can't seem to be bothered to fly missions anymore. I'm not interested in pvp (it requires time to get the ship setup and go out hunting, and always seems to result in not finding anything), so my mission running isn't really supporting anything. So what I'd like is some suggestions of what would be fun to save up for and fly. I can fly any t1 ship of any race, and use them at least semi-proficiently (all lvl 3 skills except the general support skills - most of which are at 4 or 5).
Mostly what I'm looking for is something that can run missions at least close to as proficiently as my raven. I'm more than willing to save up for a full faction fit ship (officer is just a bit too expensive atm :( ), though i'm not really interested in a CNR. So does anyone have a suggestion for a fun mission ship to fly?

Well, first of all, if you ever get too much isk I am more than happy to take it off your hands.
That aside.. as far as fun mission ships go... well.. I was never one to find missions fun, but I suppose they might be more interesting if you were a little unconventional about it :P
Make it hard for yourself! Maybe then it will be slightly more interesting. Do them in a HAC, or lower, and try to solo em. However if your definition of fun is simply to wtfpwn any mission thrown at you, well then why not a rattlesnake or something? Too expensive? Well, there's always command ships

lol to last comment but yea HAC's or BS's if u kinda have good skills and dont wanna spend much but if u have the isk and skills jus get a Nighthawk and WTF tank them and jus sit their wit defender missiles and u should have enough cap to keep a perma tank so u can jus go AFK and like eat or shower or w/e u wanna do but yea

Any more recommendations? I hate to say it, but aside from the nighthawk (yes, i'll train for it eventually... missing caldari cruiser lvl 5, and the other command ship skills that i'm already training) there hasn't been any sort of specific recommendation... :(
Remember - I'm looking for a fun ship to fly that is at least almost as good as a raven at running them (raven - not CNR).

If you are not interrested in pvp why train for a phobos at all?
Training up for a Vindicator might be a good long term goal for you if you are into gallente ships. Gallente BS 5, t2 large blaster, Minmatar BS 4-5, etc will surely keep you occupied for some time.
The Nightmare is another sweet ship that will take some time to train up for (amarr bs 5 really recommended for it). I just love it.

You know, for the longest time I did missions in a CNR because it was SO easy. But nowdays I'm wondering if turrets aren't in fact better for the job - in the sense that while they're not as easy as missiles, they are, with proper tactics, definitely much faster.
Now if you ask me I'd tell you to get a ship and fit it with large turrets. These turrets can be whatever type you like, be it lasers hybrids or projectiles, but they need to be able to instapop your typical lvl 4 mission frig from just one volley (at a respectable distance). Just warp in at optimal range and start shooting, frigs first, at that range you hit everything. If anything gets too close use drones to kill it. It's that simple. Just make sure your gunnery skills are top notch.

ROFL!! I was wondering the same thing.
But if you want a ship to run lvl4 missions, get a nighthawk. ______________________________________________________________

Shooting frigs first wtf? Guns on priority targets and drones on the frigs. If you're in a dodgy mission you can get the frigs first and not have agro with the drones but other than that it's just a waste to fire large ammo at a frigate.

Dude.
Frigs and other small target approach faster and after a short while you won't be able to hit them. Firgs and drones are priority target for that reason, then cruisers and last BS sized targets. You can't be ****ing around waiting for your drones to do the job for you as that'll deffo make things go slowly and then you're better off with a raven and that's what we where trying to avoid in the first place.

Pick the faction battleship you think looks the sexiest. Save up isk and pimp it right out. By pimping it and spending the isk, even a faction BS that is not ideal for missions will end up being as effective as a standard raven but will have the added bonus of being a beautifully sexy pimpmobile and status symbol.

Fit five cruisers for PVP and move to a low sec system for a week...chat to the locals and practice using the scanner...you will find kills and get killed. Trust me you will have fun...all it takes is a little effort.
It might be nice for you to experience the 'otherside of the coin' so to speak. If you don't like it...you can go back to mission running. ------------------------------------------------ 'The thing always happens that you really believe in... and the belief in a thing makes it happen' - Frank Loyd Wright |

This. The most fun I've had in this game was tooling around Amamake in a cheap Stabber and blowing up random stuff. And getting blown up myself.

Thanks for all the input... and i might try that pvp stuff as you suggested. As for not liking missions, and wanting a ship that can run missions... well... its better than mining?
And yes... i have been kind of short on sleep lately... i always seem to try for the starbucks runs too late as well :(
But yeah... aside from that pvp stuff, i guess i'll just choose a faction BS and start saving up... the mach does look kinda nice... :P
