Our first Live Dev Blog of the year and we though we should start with some Fiction. And no, I don't mean fiction as in what some people think Factional Warfare is, I mean fiction as in stories and the novela written by our writers. Factional War will come by the way.
For this Live dev Blog we had Abraxas, the guy who made torture in EVE famous through some of his Chronicles and t0nyG who is writing the much anticipated EVE novel. To listen in and hear what they had to say, head over to the Fiction û The writing on the wall Live Dev Blog and listen in!
For a list of older Live Dev Blogs, please go here.

It¦s only about fiction (at least as far I was able to follow).
For me this was one of the most boring and disappointing Live DevBlogs. First there were two quite long excerpts read by TonyG and Abraxas, where I struggled a bit with my english-knowledge. After this several questions about the novel, chronicles and other fictional stuff were answered, but without any real new info. BTW, if CCP reads this: It would be great, if the novel could also be translated to German.

This blog will disappoint you if you come here looking for info on EVE as a game.
This blog will however interest you greatly if you come here looking for info on EVE as a setting.

1st of all...WHOOOOT on the novel. Didn't know it was in the making but i'll be sure to put some money aside for it..will be the first time aswell so feel proud TonyG
2nd of al...Damnit on Black mountain ending soon. I really enjoy reading the chronicles and really hope more like these will follow although Abraxas said it wasn't 100 % sure due to the amount different sides on the fiction of Eve and the amount of time needed to really explore these sides.
Last comment for now untill i re-listen to the blog for picking up some side issues:
I just recently started writing my own "novel or chronicle" and have no idea yet when it will finish (could reach 100 pages if i wanted to ) but the lack of comments on stories by different writers is kind of discouraging.. Could there be any possibility that TonyG or Abraxas scourge the library section and leave a comment once in a while about the story written by players? As far as i understood, these comments where the main reason both contracted writers really dived into writing and it could help alot of aspiring writers to just keep going.
PS..my sig IS available for signatures btw...Rauth already made the first step so perhaps both writers will follow suit? ___________

I think it was noted in the blog, that you can also order the novel from eve-store.

Hmmm, seems that I have missed the answers (in contrast to excuses, that this can¦t be told or is very difficult). Perhaps I really need a transcript...

These "lore" books I heard mentionned. We going to get them just for the 4 main factions or for minor factions like intaki syndicate and Khanid Kingdom, and for pirate factions as well?
I heard Abraxis saying he'd rather shoot himself than write more of the "background" type chronicles, so would any of these lore/rp books contain new stuff or just be a collection of older material?

I did plan to go back to one-shots, but I now find that the chronicles I'm writing are turning out so long that they cannot be published as single chronicles. So who knows...
As for reading over other people's writings, I browse through the EVE Library every so often, but unfortunately I'm usually way too busy at work to give any kind of detailed criticism on a piece (if the writer even wants something of the sort). All I can give is "Good job, keep it up," which is fairly useless. I do encourage anyone who writes to keep writing as much as they can, and in doing so, learn the craft. If you keep it up for long enough, there will eventually come a time where people start to sit up and take notice. In your case, once you finish that long story of yours, send it in whereever you planned, then start writing another one. Never have a period where you're not actively writing something.

I said that if I had spent this last year and a half writing only background chronicles, I'd have put a bullet in my head. As you can see by the two such pieces I recently published as part of Black Mountain, I have no problem writing them from time to time. They simply won't ever be the main focus of what I do. As for the roleplay books, all will be revealed in time.

Abraxas,
I simply must compliment you on your writing. I am new to EVE Online and just stumbled on the Chronicles. I am doing courier missions on autopilot in highsec in order to be able to read quietly for a while.
I love your writing. The style, the themes, the complexities, the important realizations the characters go through. The intelligence, the personal feel, the insight you must have in human psychology... I really admire it.
Thank you ever so much for sharing with us the fruits of your creativity!

The Dev Blog was excellent. Like t0nyG and Abraxas I find myself wanting to write for the game I love to play. I really think that there are more of us out there and should start writing
