My corp and i believe that cargo bays should be removed from shuttles. Flame away but they are in my opinion being exploited especially by our friends the isk farmers.
This post is not created purely from a pirates point of view as i realise there has to be balance but shuttles should be a means of travelling safely and not moving stuff safely. If it is that important get a scout etc etc
In there present state they are nigh on unlockable and even with a fully sensor boosted/remote sensor boosted command ship it is still more luck than skill that enables you to lock one down.
By removing the cargo bay it would mean that more people in my corps situation of not being able to travel to high sec would create contracts for items to be moved thus improving the courier market and we also feel that it would have a significant knock on effect to the spate of isk farmers there currently is in game running courier missions in 9k of shuttle, completely risk free.
Every other ship gets nerfed on demand from the masses so this is a request that the merits are at least discussed.

Shuttles only have a 10m3 cargo hold, so they are only really useful for moving BPs and Skillbooks before getting into multiple trips --- My Mod autograph collection. Mods, please sign here! --- |

Aren't there more important things to discuss than this old chestnut? They already nerfed shuttles as cargo carriers, as dozens of mods no longer fit inside.

Have you tried a remote sensor boosted interceptor? I bet that would lock fast enough... OH WAIT... you wait... you want to kill them without getting a ship blown up by the gate guns? You can't have your cake and eat it too.... ç¦ |

I agree.
Only T2 Shuttles should have cargo holds.
Now all we need are...t2 shuttles.

to topicmaker: what is the problem for you to use interdictor+interceptor to catch up all the shuttles at the gate?

That's why I use Prowlers as my T2 shuttles. They're agile, warp to 9.0au/s, built-in 2pt WCS, and hold a GSC without any expanders.

Edited by: Sephra Star on 30/01/2008 02:53:51 I am a fairly new player. Little over a month now.
When I started I decided to try my hand at trading which involved buying and selling.
I used a shuttle for cargo transprt on auto pilot through high sec many times and was never ganked although I have been told it can and does happen.
Prior to that I made forays into low sec 0.0 in shuttles to try and pick up some sweet deals on salvaged parts.
I did that three times and was ganked successfully each and every time I tried to get back into high sec. I was not on auto pilot when it happened either.

1) Most people make alts to do that. 2) The courier market sucks because people have to put down 100+m of collateral to make maybe 500k for a 15-jump haul of 20000 m3. There's plenty of contracts, they just aren't worth the effort.

I whole heartedly agree with this posters remarks concerning courier contracts.
The few couriers who do make any profit from it advertise there services in the Forum to get customers and charge anywhere from a 100k to 150K per jump in High Sec.
It occurs to me that CCP should institute an insurance-like program for couriers whereby they only need put down 10% of the equity on a delivery. Then if they get blowed up in low sec space they don't lose their shirts.
Perhaps an even better idea might be for CCP to have CONCORD subsidize player cargo transportation contracts the way in the USA the FED subsidises the Airline Industry. The logic being that CONCORD is paying players who transport for other players some reward cash in return for stimulating the transport Industry in order to improove business Empire Wide. Perhaps even add an LP reward from the corporation that runs the station where the goods are picked up from, or delivered to.

Why the hell do you care so much about killing shuttles in a command ship anyway?

0.99m3 of cargo hold and a shuttle will still be able to carry more books or bp's than is generally needed. A shuttle doesn't need hold space for anything else really.

I made a fortune as a noob when I was buying and selling salvaged parts. All done in a shuttle. It can carry 1000 at a time.
