Hi,
Just started playing this game, where are the aliens? Have there ever been any? Will they ever make an appearance?

We are the aliens. We have inhabited this galaxy thousands of years ago through a wormhole from the Milky Way Galaxy.
But no, can't think of any actual "aliens" in this game, that we would think of as such.

Well the new rogue drones are becoming sort of alien-ish only in a sense that they are the only ones that posses sentience besides humans(including jovians). Even though they are not a biological entity and that they were made by us.

completely untrue. most of them have citizenship...
apart from that, I seem to recall years ago the CCP devs stating that there were no sentient aliens, as the biggest threat to the players was mankind itself
rather a refreshing attitude among designers, really.

no wind-up. they're damn creepy. sort of mechanical insectoid ships festooned with feelers and writhing sensors. they're rather interesting, but have no personality to the designs, and, of course, no real interactivity to give them sentience.

Sure there were aliens. But us being humans and with all that entails, we eradicated them from the galaxy and erased any memory of them.
The survivors however uploaded their brains into our computer equipment and became what is now known as rogue drones.
Yeah.. I'm winding you up. Rogue drones do exist though.

Assuming you are not a troll, there is something you need to know about EVE. This isn't your typical MMO, and if you're looking for a quest-based MMO like WoW then you've come to the wrong place.
EVE is about a lot of things, but more than anything, it is about PvP. Everything that happens in EVE is, either directly or indirectly, related to PvP. Even when someone who never fights another player and simply attacks NPC rats in missions or the belts, is performing a task that helps other players PvP.
You'll never see sentient aliens in EVE. What you will encounter, if you are willing (and sometimes not willing) to find it, is something infinitely more horrifying and dangerous: other humans.

A troll? Are you kidding? I'm a new player and I just wondered where the aliens were, its a Sci-Fi game after all. WoW? Why the hell would I want to play that? Its not even close to this in terms of quality.
Come to the wrong place indeed.

Indeed, the forums are full of condescending types.
Plain answer is, there aren't any in EVE. My own personal feeling on this is that there doesn't really need to be. Man is man's own worst enemy, if you will.
But, not an unusual question, given you are playing a sci-fi game. :)

Sorry your getting the kind of response that new players should not be getting. I wish the more experienced players out there would show a tad more tolerance and just not act so 'huffy'. Anyway, I too question why there is no 'alien' stuff in Eve. I think its due to the fact that 'aliens' have become rather passe in Science Fiction in general. Most books coming out tend to be 'Hard' SF, with no hints of 'aliens' etc. Perhaps this attitude may change should life be discovered on Mars or Europa. And if life is dicovered in those two places, then be sure 'aliens' will enter games as a matter of routine. For what is in real life must surely be mirrored elsewhere. That which does not kill us makes us stronger. The Universe is ruled by three basic principles- Matter, Energy and Enlightened Self-Interest! |

Isn't fedo some animal found on the planet, refering to description of it in the chronicle, paricularly to the part where is says it is a "primitive being". Besides it does not posses sentience. Seems more like a rodent problem to me.
Anycase as long as OP is happy that it's an alien, I have no quarrels. Although in perspective of my RP point of veiw, I thought OP was talking about aliens we can War with.

Relax, he didn't mean anything by it.
Another thing you should know, is that Alt-Trolling, (Creating a secondary character for the specific purpose of making troll posts here on the forums) is something of a common occurance here on the EVE forums. Most players here are therefore understandably a bit paranoid about Alts.
You question was a good one though. And as others have said, there aren't any aliens in EVE. I highly recommend spending time reading through the backstory of EVE. You will find a "Backstory" link in the column on the left-hand side of the website. Read through EVERYTHING, and you will understand MUCH more about EVE.
One more thing. When you get to the EVE Chronicles section, it's listed in reverse chronological order, with newer Chronicles up top. So start at the bottom, and things will make MUCH more sense.
Enjoy! And welcome to EVE.

Think waste = organic matter.

I don't think I was being condescending. Frankly, I've seen way too many alts on these forums start topics like this as a way to get the playerbase "wound up." Your statement "Rogue drones? Seriously? Are you winding me up?" set up some red flags, because this is exactly the sort of thing a troll would say.
Still, I didn't want a potentially new player to come here with the wrong idea of what EVE was about. I thought I gave a pretty good summary. What you seemed to interpret as "condescending" was actually pride in what I feel is a unique philosophy in MMO's. While most MMO's treat PvP as a bullet point on a chart, and try to discourage it at every step, EVE not only embraces it, but is extremely unforgiving for people who don't want to engage in it.
EVE is HARSH. Many players will hunt you down while you are in supposedly "safe" space, and sacrifice their ships to blow you up. They'll steal your ore if you're mining, and then pop your expensive mining ship if you try to defend your ore. They'll laugh at you when you complain, and they revel in causing you as much financial loss as possible.
There are no aliens to fight, because we don't need them. We fight each other, real players, and we will dance on your floating corpse and taunt you without mercy or remorse at the loss of your expensive ship.
If this is not something you like, then you ARE in the wrong place. If you can find insult in a simple, honest forum post praising the harshness of EVE in comparison with other popular MMO's like WoW, then you're going to be very frustrated here.
This is what EVE is about. It isn't about fighting aliens, because that would create an "us vs. them" and "black and white" community. EVE is about greed and selfishness. It's about what is BETWEEN good and evil, when a select few elite--you and I, the pod pilots--have merged with machine and transcended what it is to be human. It is where a fraction of the trillions of humans living across thousands of star systems, have the power to slaughter thousands with a simple thought.
Can you handle that? Can you handle me stealing the ore you just spent an hour mining, and then laughing as you attack me and I blow up the ship you spent a week saving up for? Can you handle traveling through low security space to complete a mission, and having me web, scramble and pop your ship--and then laugh as you complain that you can't complete your mission now and lost standings? Can you handle having your pod destroyed, just because I can?
Or will you be like me, and dance to the laughter of your pod on fire?
This is EVE, and we welcome you with open arms. Just don't be mad when we try to take your stuff.

I hate having aliens in this type of setting. There's something lonely and interesting about people going out into space and finding no one else there.

Tons of sci-fi has no aliens.
Eve actually does have aliens lifeforms, but they're non-sentient, like the fedo, slaver hounds, etc.
I prefer my sci-fi without aliens in general, as they usually don't seem alien enough and end up being versions of elves, orcs, dwarves, etc that are just different enough to be called aliens.
Besides, realistically, sentient alien life would be exceedingly rare.
