Alright, this is just a research topic for now, but I've got a bit of a question for all the 0.0 dwellers out there. If you don't care about my past much, jump to the bold text.
I've been part of alliances in the past, and the one common theme I've run into is that I've always (willingly) left because I've not been able to contribute to things like defending turf, maintaining POS, joining in on ops etc., mostly due to the fact of timezones and my inability to guarantee contribution at fixed times (RL comes before EVE, and RL is pretty chaotic for me).
Nowadays I eke out existance as a high sec indy, spending an hour or two each week maintaining production, and occasionally running out a mission when I've got spare time. The latter part is kinda boring now, and I'd love to revisit 0.0 basically for the nice ratting and mining, and the odd random PvP stouch when the stars align right, I'm holding my tounge the right way and I can actually join in :)
That's the ramble, now the point.
Whats the cost for a solo man to live in 0.0?
Essentially, I'd just have my own little ******* end of a system to come and go from as I please, blue to the alliance and their friends in exchange for a monthly payment. Personally, it's a bit of a "Rose-coloured glasses" idea, alliances fight hard for their turf and don't just let people come in and not contribute, so I'm curious as to what sort of financial commitment would be required to forego any actual physical commitment to alliance operations for one man?

Unfortunately so :( Remember seeing four NPC chars of the same age (about raven flying age) in a system, then they all disappeared without any sign of them at gates, then every 5 minutes or so they'd come on and disappear just as quick :(

Honestly thats pretty much it. Now is also a great time to find yourself a low true sec system back in the bottom end of someone's region. Most alliances reasonable pvpers are down in the south shooting the hell out of each other so you would likely have less gangs running through systems looking for quick ganks.
If you have an alt, throw it in a hauler to stock loot if you are npcing. Easy way to make lots of isk.

Why not just describe your situation in the recruitment part of these forums and ask if a 0.0 corp is interested in you anyways? Some might be if you contribute to the corp with isk or equipment in some way.
Will not hurt to check out this possibility.

Unfortunately that there is the problem. One, I don't have a spare alt, and two, ninjaing out to 0.0 is fine, getting back with the loot is another thing. That on top of most (most, not all) 0.0 entrances being permacamped with bubbles and reasonable camps being decked out with HICs these days, ninjaing is far less of an option, and that blockade runner for getting the loot back is suddenly useless too.

You could always rat in Syndicate. hang out a few jumps off the pipes and stations, make the occasional trip back to the station for ammo \ loot drops. Just avoid PF-346 like the plague. Not the best rats out in Synd, but beats nothing.

Syndicate has always been too busy for my liking, and the area in my experience has been too fluid in power shifts.
Although I appreciate it, I find it also slightly odd that I'm being offered ways to get away with it without paying anything (which I've done in the past, overall I just find the time wasted doing effective scouting and ninja-ing a pain, plus that I don't often get time to do stuff, so having a one-hour ratting session shut down by someone who wants your blood gets frustrating). With lots of claims that "PvP doesnt have enough reward/is too expensive" etc, I would've thought people would want an income on the side.

Blockade runners work fine. Heavy dictors didnt bring anything new.

Syndicate or other similar NPC 0.0 has to be your first choice. I know of several freelancing corps operating in (Southern)Syndicate, and if you keep your eyes open and are smart about the system you choose as home - you will be fine. Take the minimum you need so you're not wiped out if it goes pear-shaped... _______________________

I know, and I am, still, got a combat character sitting idle, and 0.0 ratting is more profitable than mish IMO, but thats just my opinion.

The trouble is that even if you have permission from the owners of said 0.0, the chokepoints at empire entrances may still be camped by hostile foes, and thus you're back at square one.

With this in mind, just learn how to survive in 0.0, it will be more fun and more profit.

I started out in Stain like this, and am still there. Has lost a lot of ships, but had much fun
Find a system that's not to crowded, and that preferably have a factory. Bring lot's blueprints (copies), so you can keep yourself supplied. Fly them in using a small fast ship with a cloak, and then try to get enough minerals (through market, loot processing or mining) to build your first ratting ship.
Try to get some friends among the smaller corps in your area, and eventually you'll start seeing some blues you can cooperate with. That's when the fun really starts
Good luck! -- Do you need research services for your blueprints? We have available slots in Metropolis region. Look up my bio for info! |

Find a corp that owns 0.0 space, find a diplomat, ask how much rent you would have to pay to be set blue to that corp and what spaces you could make money in, the rules of said space, etc.

Slide down to Sendaya. U can live in the station there and the station in Doril (1 jump to the NPC station in Curse). You can also check with TCF.
They were renting space (They have a thread in CAOD).
I lived in Curse for a while. Good fun camping the Doril gate. Im the girl momma warned you about..

Keep in mind Jmanis, that when you do pay to go and rat in someones space there is no profit at all. you said you can only do an hour a day or so. plus the money you make ratting in 0.0 will have to go to the people who are renting you the space anyway.. even though empire is crowded..mroe isk for your time. ---------

I can get a clean (no loot) 20-30 mil isk out of ratting in 0.0 (at least, last time i did it about 6 months ago i did) in an hour. over a week, that's about 200-300 mil, plus if i strike lucky with a faction spawn or two, I'm in for a lot more, and once again thats not including loot. I'd be incredibly concerned if an alliance expected *one* person to pay 200-300 million or more to live in their space.
Either way, it's become a bit of a moot point really. I'm incredibly surprised that most alliances dont jump at the chance for even a little more cash per month, instead telling me "You don't need to pay, just learn to survive and do it". Point being I can survive, I'm just looking to forego the inconvenience of ninjaing everywhere in place of some monthly isk.
But yeah, I came out looking to scope what sort of offers there'd be, and there's really not much which was an unexpected turnabout.
Oh well.

You will be hard pressed to find an alliance out there that will rent space to small corps, let a lone single players. It's simply not really worth their time and effort to set the standings etc.
If you want to venture into 0.0 it is entirely possible to go out there on your own and make a living (scout alts always help, just make a trial account to scout you through if you don't have a seccond account already, though you certainly don't need one if you're careful). If all you want to do is rat and mine a bit, you can either go to a npc 0.0 region and base out of an unpopulated area, or you can go into alliance controlled space and fit the standard equipment to avoid fights you don't want to take part in (cloaking devices really) or find a corp thats suited to your needs and lives in relatively easy 0.0. It's a challenge sometimes to survive, but thats what you get for taking the harder option for 0.0 life.
That might not be the answer you want to hear, but frankly if you want permission to be in the good 0.0, you're usually asked for participation which is a lot more valuable than the odd few hundred mill isk for alliances. As stated though, you certainly don't need permission to live in 0.0, it's certainly more exciting to gun for yourself, though you won't have access to carefree brainless ratting (you do have empire for that though).
