Ive just bought a new laptop for my eve pleasure and just downloaded the eve classic client. When i launch eve it displays the splash screen but nothing appears for you to login and enter pw etc. Ive ran searches and followed what i thought to be others having the same problem as me but im having no luck :(
If anyone could please give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated as i am a spaz when it comes to Computers.

Try reinstalling.. Sure no error messages came up?
Edit; Or do you have any programs that could be blocking Eve from operating? (like a firewall, et cetera)

I had a problem very similar to this, and I installed some alternate video drivers that solved it for me. One of my PCs runs an ATI card, and it would do pretty much what you described using the official ATI drivers. I went and downloaded the Omega Drivers, which are a high quality third party driver, and it solved the problem for me. They make Nvidia drivers as well, so you might try downloading and installing them to see if that fixes things.
At worse they won't solve the problem, and you can simply uninstall them and reinstall the official drivers for your card.

What baffles me is the fact that this laptop is twice as powerful as my old pc i used to play eve on but its still not happening. Getting wracked off now time for sleep, thanks for the assistance CCP...sense the sarcasm.
Thanks for those that did reply and tried to assist. o7
P.S I played eve for over a year on my old crappy pc on xp with no problems, this new comp has vista, anychance that could be the problem??

eve runs fine on vista,
i would make sure windows has done an update and check your graphics and sound drivers are up to date.

If you are baffled by the lack of relationship between brute force and functionality, I'm surprised you have managed to play eve at all to be honest. It's not like pulling out a tree stump you know.
There is a forum for bug reports and troubleshooting. You need to do some basic stuff like run dxdiag and post the results.
Sorry if that sounds rude, but people who claim to be 'a spaz with computers' and think this neatly exempts them from having to think or make an effort really give me the s**ts.

IIRC, you need to check Windows/fonts/ for arialuni.ttf. It comes from Office, so if you don't have it installed on Vista, you have a problem.
I'm not running Windows or anything (lol mac client), but I seem to recall that the problem you're describing does not match the symptoms caused by missing the font. But, check anyway...never know. --- SVP OwlManAtt, Yasashii Syndicate |

try running the client in window mode. (just hit ALT+Enter)
i know that works for some graphics systems which have an issue running EVE in Fullscreen mode.

Try filing a petition through the website, and in the meantime make sure your drivers are updated, as well as your directx, also have you restarted your pc?
