At least he had the good sense to not post with the carrier pilot if he even owns it yet.
Oh yeah, the character he bought was Nemiah. Check his post history

Oh I disagree, some people got 'free' play time, someone sold a carrier, and someone lucky is soon to get a carrier kill mail.
How much more win do you want injected into Eve.
I guess you have a point, everybody wins

That was mean of you to point out the name of his carrier pilot like that

I await the post he will soon make whining about how he lost his carrier even though he fitted it invulnerability field mods. Or asking why he lost his carrier to a fifty man cap fleet because we wanted to go rat in someplace called "Delve". Or, god forbid, losing his future mothership and petitioning it, claiming "he couldn't dock".

Or... some people got 'free' play time, someone sold a carrier, a load of people will soon loose ships they worked hard to get when the get hotdropped by a guy with a carrier he shouldn't have in the first place.

You know, if there was actually some kind of documentation to EVE, these questions could be easily answered by RTFM.

But then the forums would be reduced to "RTFM n00b!", at least there are a small variety of spiteful answers right now. |

To be honest, I would prefer that to the amount of misinformation that is running around the forums in their current state.

Well some of the things he said should be expanded upon:
When you open up a cyno field, the cyno generator ship basically sits there for 10 minutes. It can't move, it can't activate any modules etc. This is why he suggested using a Kestrel - it has the CPU/PG to fit the cyno generator and a large enough cargo bay for the fuel - it is also very cheap, something that will come in useful when you're sitting there for 10 minutes unable to do anything (because you will likely get killed if you're doing this anywhere near hostile territory).
Cyno beacons attract enemies like sh1t attracts flies - they'll be buzzing around you, so it's important that you update your clone :)
HTH.
You can activate all modules except for cloak, you just cant move.
Oh and you can self-destruct but not eject.

Edited by: deathatlaby on 05/02/2008 06:10:03 1. How far away from the cyno do you appear? meaning, can the carrier cloak if it sees red activity in local? Does it appear more than 2000m away from the cyno?
I do know that the incoming pilots can stake out this place using drones and orbiting intys, but just wondering.
2. What happens if the cyno alt logs right after the carrier jumps in? will the cyno ship be saved and cyno destroyed?
2.a. I have also heard you can drop a cyno when you are mwd'ing. meaning can you sit outside a pos, point at the pos and mwd and drop a cyno? will your alt be saved in this way? <It will be inside the pos shields>
3. What is this session timer people talk about? meaning, if you cyno next to a station, you cannot dock for 30 seconds - is that true?
4. In case of jump freighters, can you jump to a cyno alt just after jumping through a stargate - when you are still cloaked?
- Meaning, jump into a low-sec system, see a camp - rightclick alt and jump. Is this possible?
I have posted 4 in another thread as well, but meh.

Within about 2500m

The cyno ship will just sit there untill the cyno go's down, it will then disapear or warp out, not sure which, cyno alts are cheep

You can do this but you have to time it well, if the cyno pops to close to the pos shield, there is a risk the capital will hit the shield bubble (regardless if it your/your corps/your alliances pos - you can not jump into a shield bubble) and will bouce off at stupid speed, makeing itself vulneralble.

Correct, you also can not jumpdrive your capital ship within 30 seconds after undock, or jumping through a gate (in the case of jump freighters)

Yes they are, but it would be cumbersome to lose these when you are cyno-highwaying.

In fact this is too cool, I can just cloak:). Otherwise I can't cloak next to cyno beacon - "Mental note - pop cyno's next to shields"

Hmm - the cloak lasts for 30 secs / and the timer lasts for 30secs. It would be a close call indeed:). I hate to log on seeing a logoffski camp, but looks like thats the only option ccp intends to provide.
For all those who are gonna advice next saying "USE SCOUTS", I use 3 scouts. One forward/one backward and one webbing. The only problem is I have seen the following too many times:
1. You look at a low-sec gate - no body there. 2. High-sec side is clean too - so u jump ur freighter in. <usually there is a cloaker watching you on the high-sec side.> 3. The logoffski guys login and warp real quick to the gate. 4. Your freighter will take 1 minute to warp off naturally, or you have to risk webbing it with your webber, in which case there is a risk that you might get popped / freighter might get scrambled if the opponents are quick enough - or if your freighter alt came out real far on the gate. There is also stupid lag before appearing on the other side.
- Here there is NO option other than to combat logoffski with logoffskis. If anyone sees any other one let me know!
thanks for answering so quick!

Originally by: Tar om You're missing a crucial step - the cyno pilot and the carrier have to be in the same gang for it to work and the gang has to be formed before the cyno goes up. Otherwise the carrier can't jump and you could end up being responsible for a carrier loss. Ask me how I know :)
BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT, thanks for playing.
You can jump to an existing cyno even if you weren't in the gang when it was created. You join the gang with the cyno pilot and they can re-broadcast the beacon as long as the cyno is still active.
I don't know if there is a menu option for this (never been able to find one) but if you search through the key binding setup you will find it in there and you can bind it to a key. I believe this was introduced with Trinity but I'm not certain that is the case

Which is why much fun can be bad if you simply drop a cyno outside an enemy's station system and camp it with a couple battleships.

I highly suggest you try jumping the carrier over on the test server first.
You can then play around and see what works and what doesn't.

Problem is that the character he bought probably hasn't been transfered to him on the test server.

I wanted to do that myself when I got capital skills. Sadly it took a few months for a new mirror so I ended up testing it on TQ instead.

Pilot 2 gang warps to SS in system. Pilot 2 remains stationary at Cyno Field but Pilot 1 will auto warp to the SS.
I have added a couple of steps which I was told during my first solo 'jump' a few weeks ago. You don't want the carrier to have to wait for the cyno pilot to move to the next system / have to create its own safespot to wait or log out at the cyno field etc.

generally you dont want to do it solo either Trashed sig, Shark was here |
