I wouldn't say I was a classical music lover, but I do like the odd really famous/recognisable tune.
Click For The Classical Music Page I Found
I found the above website - and there's a little previews box full of lovely tunes that I know of, just didn't know the name of.
What I'm looking for is a couple of things,
1) A CD album/compilation that has all kinds of classical tracks like this that I can listen to for my own pleasure
2) Some royalty free versions of this music that I can use in my videos without fear of being accused of plagiarism or copyright theft or something like that.
Is the website that I linked to a good starting point, ya think?
Thanks for your time,
TX Out.

Edited by: Morholt Verva on 05/02/2008 21:17:46 lol doesnt look like classical music is too popular here
I recently heard some amazing music so bought his CD - Ludovico Einaudi He has one loads of great songs but one in particular is incredible - a song called fuori dalla notte Although apparently he's minimalist, but I dont have a clue what the difference is.
Can't help you on the royalty free stuff, but try this guy

Here's a good starter list: http://www.kickassclassical.com/most-popular-classical-top-100.html.
As for copyright it gets rather sticky and you really should retain a lawyer if you are serious about using someone else's work.
That said you can reliably get away with a lot if you are not selling the work. Just see all the YouTube vids where someone overlays a song to some video. Since they are not selling it (or otherwise gaining money for it) getting sued over it is unlikely (but not impossible...it is still a copyright violation). Or think of all the EVE vids where people use someone else's music. None of them have been sued yet that I am aware of.
If you are selling vids with someone else's music then get permission from the author. Note that copyright extends for 70 years after the author's death (in the US). While the music of (say) Mozart is in the public domain a given performance is unique and copyrighted. So you can freely sit down and tape yourself playing some Mozart piece without paying Mozart's descendants but I cannot use YOUR recording without gaining your permission (which generally means I have to pay you).
Then there is the whole "Fair Use" clause but that is open to a lot of interpretation. Again, you really need an attorney well versed in copyright law to answer this. Even they will tell you it is rather cryptic.

Cool - thanks for the suggestions - I'd given up waiting to find any Classical music lovers in the EVE world and forgot I even made this thread!

Hmm,different. Grieg's Morning isn't something most people would use to rev themselves up for a multiplayer combat game

Ride of the Valkyries is a no brainer for what he is on about here.
