Hi all. I'm a few days into the trial and liking the gameplay so far, but one thing is stopping me hitting the buy button and that's the problems I'm having with the client.
I very recently reinstalled my OS onto a fresh SDD, all of my drivers are up to date and the system is running sweet as a nut. That is until I play Eve. Whenever I boot up and click the Eve icon, there's only a 20-25% chance I'll get into the game without one of the following occurring.
1) My entire system will lock up if I try to amend any settings before logging in (this is a rare one, but still a puzzle)
2) I log in, select a character and the system locks during loading
3) I get in the game, but it pauses every few seconds for 5-10 seconds at a time and then ultimately locks up the whole system
On the occasions where everything is fine and I get in the game, it runs absolutely fine with all settings maxed out. It the system locks however (which is most of the time), it's the reset button on the front of the case. It's only a matter of time before something corrupts on my SDD and I'm reinstalling Windows again.
So far, I've tried disabling Eve Voice, all of the audio, various gfx options, running in windowed mode and using the safe mode icon, but it all makes no difference. Added to that, even if I get in fine, the system gets unstable once I've quit the client and I'm hitting the reset button again.
Other than Eve, every game and application runs just fine, so I'm tempted to pin the blame on the Eve client itself, but does anyone have any suggestions? I can't post a full system spec as I'm (ahem) at work right now, but it's an Intel i5 CPU and ATI graphics card (can't remember the model, but easily good enough to run at max settings). I can get more detail later if it helps anyone to help me.
If you've got this far, thanks for reading. |

*reads OP and ticks of the usual corrections steps*
hmm.... might be worth filing an in game bugreport (f12)
the tool picks up your game settings and hardware profile and attaches it. They might be able to sort it out for you with all that information... but i've not seen a SSD specific problem mentioned before.. |

You may have to keep an eye on your CPU temperature. If a system just locks up like that, it tends to be the CPU.
You could further try to run repair.exe to check if your client is corrupted. The game has a tutorial that gives you a mining laser and a railgun and tells you to go shoot rocks and red crosses. It teaches you nothing else. It's been that way for 8 years, so are you really surprised that there are people who aren't aware that this is a pvp game? --Jafit McJafitson |

Still no luck getting this resolved. There are no temperature issues (when I say system freeze, it's more accurate to say unresponsive, I've still got mouse input).
I've had one reply from my petition which suggested using an older version of PhysX if I was using one of two version numbers. I've a Radeon gfx card and don't use PhysX at all, so I've not really got any closer to resolving this matter.

I think I've resolved it. The problem was with Vipre Internet Security.
Adding the Eve exe files to the web filter within Vipre seems to have worked. |
