Im terribly sorry to ask this but I am new to EVE today and I have seen TONS of posts about crashing on a Mac but having difficulty finding an answer to my crashing issue. First here is what I have:
Model Name:MacBook Model Identifier:MacBook3,1 Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed:2.2 GHz Number Of Processors:1 Total Number Of Cores:2 L2 Cache:4 MB Memory:4 GB Bus Speed:800 MHz I maxxed out the RAM at 4 gig
Display Chipset Model:GMA X3100 Type:Display Bus:Built-In VRAM (Total):144 MB Vendor:Intel (0x8086) Device ID:0x2a02 Revision ID:0x0003 Displays: Color LCD: Display Type:LCD Resolution:1280 x 800 Depth:32-bit Color Built-In:Yes Core Image:Hardware Accelerated Main Display:Yes Mirror:Off Online:Yes Quartz Extreme:Supported
This is my fist Mac computer.
I had a few issues in the beginning getting the game to run smooth and then after toying with settings the game ran great on this system. I was working on the second Caldari military agent quest (delivering documents to a guy in another system). When I exit the station and enter warp to the next system, right after the warp starts the game crashes to the desktop. Now everytime I restart the game the ship tries to continue the flight path and the games crashes again. I have tried changing every graphic setting, restarting the computer, getting the ship to stop before entering warp when restart the game. No matter what I do about 10 seconds after I start the game it crashes to the desktop. Is there anything else I can do or try while I am still on my 14 day free trial or can this system I have just not handle this game? Thank you in advance to any or all who can help me.

Hi,
From: http://support.eve-online.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=124 you can read that:
Quote: The client does not run on a PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) based Macintosh Machines (PowerMac). MacBook laptops are also not supported nor the Mac Mini.
I donno if that means you can't file a stuck in game progress petition though. Should try that anyway, now you're hopelessly stuck.
(On a side note there are reports of people playing Eve to some sort of satisfaction on non-supported hardware) Maybe you got a one in a time hick-up.
(Ps: forum admin: why the heck do i need to click the reply button 2x before I get to the reply/ response page? )

The biggest bottleneck with your machine is your graphics card, its not powerful enough to properly run the game I think. The fact that it works proves that it has some power, the reason it crashes probably has something to do with missing hardware functionality on the graphics card.
The only real solution in getting it working would be another computer for you.

Wow. That kind of sucks. It runs great until I try to go to the Urien (if I spelled it right) stargate. I totally removed the game, reinstalled it, created a new character and tried it again and same problem. This game must be more demanding than World of Warcraft which runs great on here with all the graphics set as high as they can go.

The reason WoW runs great on your machine is because it is truly a "native" Mac application that uses OpenGL. Eve on the other hand was written for MS Windows and uses DirectX. In order to get it to work on the Mac they are using a product called cider from Transgaming that translates the DirectX and other MS Windows specific code to work on the Mac on the fly. You probably take about a 20% hit in performance because of that. On top of that you have all that hocus-pocus going on underneath with cider that the windows client does not have to deal with. That is why it is that much more demanding of a game than WoW.
If you used Bootcamp and ran the windows version of Eve on your Macbook under Win XP it may run without problems.

Thanks Memkani. Running this computer Bootcamped with Windows Vista and then installing and running the Windows version of EVE seems to have made all my problems go away. Game is smooth as silk with graphic available options maxxed out for now.
