This is related to suicide ganks. Right now they have a 100% success rate because there is no way (that I know of) besides getting out of range from blocking cargo scans and there is no way a freighter or Indy can escape that.
Please don't make this a flamewar, I am not against suicide ganks, I think finding a way around the restrictions is "smart playing" and it should be encouraged. What I am thinking is something like a Cargo Hologram module that you can load with scrips that will make scanners show veldspar instead of your precious T2 modules and blueprints. Or you can send a suicide freighter to bait them by projecting a load of T2 modules.

well tbh, why shouldn't they? I mean they're not really hindering others directly, and dont really show aggresion. The issue on suicide ganks is more to do with cheap setups using cheap ships vastly able to outweigh what they eventually earn from the loot.

it would make a really cool feature of a "smuggler" ship... to hide stuff from cargo scans or show something else...

Fill your cargo with a ton of small single stacks of trit, npc goods, trash, garbage etc... etc... etc... Put enough of it in there and the person scanning you will get a nice bit of lag while he scans and he'll have to scroll through a huge amount of crap. I'm also not even sure if the cargo scanner shows everything in your hold. Ship scanners certainly have their bugs showing some modules, not others and showing more than are fitted. IE its fun to scan a Myrmidon and have your scanner tell you its quad-repped and not tell you about the rigs or faction warp disruptor thats fitted. ____

i believe planting a lag bomb for cargo-scanners is considered an exploit.

That is an intended feature, scanners aren't entirely accurate so they sometimes omit or duplicate certain items.

Right because its hard to figure out multiple scans will allow you to see whats in there with a fair amount of accuracy? Or that you might simply decide to blow it up because they've gone to the effort of putting a lot of garbage in there?
Originally by: Taima Clant That is an intended feature, scanners aren't entirely accurate so they sometimes omit or duplicate certain items.
Yeah I know its intended. Doesn't mean I have to like it. Ultimately doesn't effect me much because by the time I'm scanning someone I've got the time to sit there and scan them several times in order to see exactly what they've got hiding on their ship. ____

No. Cargo scans are 100% accurate.

But you can jam a players mind. Fill a can of crap, lots of different items, and haul the junk can with you along with your good stuff. Any cargo scanner will see so much crap that by the time he finds out you got a good stuff in there, you are long gone. If carrying bpo's, carry dozens of bpc's of the same bpo to confuse pirates and force them to do work.

There should be a very expensive, difficult to obtain and highly skilled device that goes into your cargo hold (i.e. Freighters can use it) that spoofs empty on scan. This should be something reserved for people who earn it, however.

Why not just transport your BPO's in an interceptor?? We are talking hi-sec, right? They will be much harder to lock and much faster even on auto-pilot.

So it may be carrying something of value or just nothing. It makes the Suicide Gank gamble a little more interesting, doesn't it?
It will also make cargo smuggling more attractive.

Suicide gank a freighter? Has this ever in the history of EVE been pulled off? You do realize how much hp a freighter has don't you? You would need ALOT of gank battleships to blow up a freighter before Concord makes waste to your little tea party.

Errmmm well yes and no, if you find nothing it could be the freighter is well ... empty. If the jammer actually falsifies the cargo manifest on the other hand ... well the ganker is screwed.

There's a way to hide cargo from a cargo scanner. It requires contracts and an alt to help you out.

Have you personally tested this? I have seen a lot of credible reports which says that courier wrappings do not hinder scanners in the least.

Good way for the ganker to lose a dozen battleships for nothing possibly.
I would be hauling my can-o-crap with me to my pickup so when you see piles of crap that is all there is. Blow me up and you're welcome to it. I'm not sure who would be swearing more at that point...me for losing a freighter needlessly or you for getting crapola for your efforts.
And as mentioned a mod that showed an empty cargo or actually an empty cargo? Cargo ships fly empty quite often...enough that you could never be sure.

15-30 Gank Battleships can turn a Freighter into dust in a scarily short amount of time. Remember, most of that HP is on unresisted hull, and Freighters cannot mount any tank to improve their base resistances.

You'll soon find that there are plenty of real empty haulers. There goes your profit.

No. Cargo scans are 100% accurate.
Tell me though, if you don't see the valuable cargo immediately, how long does it take to search through a few thousand bogus entries of Tritanium, Bookmarks, and 1-run BPCs to find the valuable stuff? An expanded hauler might not get out in this time, but I suspect a Blockade Runner would be away by then. Doesn't help if you have an alt scanning in the next system over, though, which I suspect is a common setup. -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft.
