Not sure where to ask this, I tried searching on it and all posts were from 2003 and didn't really say much. But is it illegal (Illegal to CCP) to purchase accounts off of Ebay.com and playerauctions.com? Or is the only way to get another account is to buy game cards, sell the game cards, then buy an account with the ISK you got from selling the game cards?
The reason I ask is I'm trying to convince a friend to start playing and there's a 22 Mil SP Dreadnought pilot on that playerauctions site for $150 which would get him in the game with me close to the same level. |

You can only buy characters for ISK. Also note that you cannot buy accounts, only characters. So they have to be transfered with the character transfer service.

Jameroz is correct.
Buying a character or account for real life money is against the EULA and may result in an ingame ban.
The only legal way to purchase a character is to do so through the Character and Timecode Bazaar

Okay thanks, so he has to get an account the same way I got one through this website. Then he can buy and sell timecards and then buy a character via the game and then pay to have that character transfered to his account?

Yes, thats correct.
Note that only secure gametime card trades are allowed. Here is guide for buying character for ISK.

Why does'nt he just start as any newbie, he will learn the game mechanics better that way. Its rather lame to want to be able to jump in the deep end without knowing the game or how it works. Buying accounts is stupid. Ever wondered where those killmails about n00b fitted BS, dreadnoughts and carriers came from? Now you know...

I must agree. Your friend will miss out on much of the fun of Eve jumping into a high sp character. The fact that you are in-game much longer than him shouldn't matter, I'm in-game more than 3 years and I enjoy flying with new players as well as old friends. It's not as if a new player can't contribute in Eve, he can in many ways.

Technically, a character will train about 800k to 1.2 million skillpoints per month, and a month costs $14.95, so if you average it all out a good price would be 66k skillpoints per dollar (or they could just make it easy and say $15 for 1 million SP).
But they'd have to integrate it with the skill training process, so in actuality what we'd do is we'd buy generic SP's on the account, then right-click a skill and choose "train to next level instantly with purchased SP's" and thus apply some of those generic points to particular skills.
I don't think they'll do this, though.

This is exactly what a friend and I were talking about. That way I wouldn't have to set a skill to train, then come back in a week when I can fly a new ship. -------------------- Jonas 'Jonesey' Arniman callsign: nethervoid CEO Shrapnel Industries "You like to blow s*** up, and we like to make that possible." My advice: definitely do not buy him a capital pilot, newbies always seem to be under the impression that capital ships are solowtfbbq mobiles, but they are not, and since he'll be restricted to flying it in lowsec or 0.0 only, he will lose it swiftly and painfully.
If anything, he should get a low SP character that has all the learning skills trained, and maybe some light specialisation in something cheep, like T1 cruisers with T2 guns and drones, decent tanking skills, navigation skills, that should be a good start without putting him straight into stupidly expensive ships that he will likely lose and then be frustrated trying to earn isk for replacements. -

I think for me it's all about avoiding skills like battleship 5. 37 days of training. I would much rather just buy that skill than wait 37 days. I can't even do anything to speed that time up. I get tired of waiting weeks for a skill to train so I can use something, and nothing I can do will speed up that time (once I have all my learning skills and implants).
I would definitely pay 15 bucks to skip 37 days of training time. -------------------- Jonas 'Jonesey' Arniman callsign: nethervoid CEO Shrapnel Industries "You like to blow s*** up, and we like to make that possible." PubChan: SHRAP |

I would like to point out then that the www.EVE-pirate.com CCP had adevertised at login had a link that lead directly to a google page which had, as its 1st link, a link to a page where you can buy charaters for RL monies. Either CCP sanctions this activity or someone did not do much homework on said web page.

that would be because most google.adds are generic to the website, they latch onto some form of topic text and then generate adds specific to what it finds... or something like that.

Yes Blane, I can see that happening.
The problem is the link on the EVE-Pirate page I am reffering to say and I quote "EVE Accounts" so I doubt that it is a random coincedence (sp?).
EDIT: Upon a second look front and center of the main page is also a google box with the text of "Buy or Sell EVE Accounts"
Not good in my eyes. But then again I am completely ignorant of web page design. No Joke.
