I started on a trial account last April. worked nothing but learning skills during the trial. Learning to 5 and the basics as far as I could get in that time as well as a few others skills. Then I did not really understand the game and did not go farther than the trial. Recently, a friend, who has been bugging me to play for years, got around to actually showing me how to play. Trinity got me w/ the pretty sparklies and now I am playing full tilt. So, I am almost a year old but I just passed 2mil SP. I am not in 0.0 because frankly, I cannot afford to be there...yet.
Sorry for the long drawn out post just for a simple answer but I felt a bit of background info would help somehow... Umm.... |

Was in 0.0 and I liked it, but at this point it about time I spend playing.
I have turned my attendion to other things and I only hop on for a few hours each week, and I love the nice weather right now.

There are more than 2,000 trial accounts ~7% online at any time. Someone else also mentioned the average EvE character lifespan is 7 months. Meanwhile, learning skills included, most people have said you need to skill up for about 3 months to be competitive in PvP. So all things considered, 22% percent in lowsec / 0.0 sec is a pretty good number. Even if you assumed PvPers never did wardecs or never visited high sec, that would still mean about 40% of players "experienced enough" are in the dangerous areas. This is actually much larger than the hardcore PvP population in other MMORPGs.
There is no problem, and don't worry about trying to draw the newbies out; you can't take anything valuable from them.

Edited by: Sin Fae on 01/03/2008 04:55:10 I can ore-thief in empire for 20-30mil an hr. You need lots of people density to thief. It provides good entertainment and makes good in-game cash.
I go to 0.0 for raids and to sec-up if need be.
I just don't have time nowadays to do the things necessary to be a good 0.0 corp dude. Plus I always end up running crap because I can recruit, motivate, and manage players, and when you do that gaming goes up a notch from hobby to semi-pro. I know I could probably be just a "dood" in a 0.0 corps but it is not the way I'm wired I guess.
Which is cool I've been there and it's alot of fun but alot of time. Hopefully Eve will still be around when I hit early retirement then I can be more involved.

Being as i live in 0.0 myself (only moved out there in the past few months though), i've spent alot of time in Empire space.. mainly Highsec. reason are as follows:
1) As an Industrialist, you can manufacture whatever you want without having to worry about having the right assembly array. 2) Materials needed to build anything, can be found there, and rarely have to be moved about if your smart about where you mine. why haul 10 mil tritainium, when you can do it in safe, secure highsec. 3) PVP, or lack there of. 1 vs 1 PVP is fine, or even fair odds, but you have to remember the "Pirate" factor. 1 vs 1 where Player A has 3 years playing experience and Player B has 3 weeks experience is hardly fair. Neither are the "fair" odds of 5 vs 1, which is what most "PVPers" go for. now i'm not one to complain about loosing ships or that the odds are stacked, but for most people looking to make the plunge into lowsec, or even 0.0, its just not worth the frustration of hearing somebody smack talk you like their the experts, especially when they just pwn'd you with a 10 man gang vs your 1 cruiser. why bother?
all in all, this game is to have fun.. some people have fun fighting other people, pushing their skills to the max and get a rush fighting the good battle. Others know that they have to train for a few years before even attempting the good battle. Still others perfer to maximize their potentual staying in empire where they only need to worry about what their going to make that day, not where or how to get it there. And yes, we still see the Macro's cruising around with their little bot scripts, minning, selling, and offering everybody ISK for cold hard cash, which is illegal, so dont forget to include them in your calculations.

actually, i play eve a couple of hours a day, and perhaps more on weekends if i'm not out, and when i was in a 0.0 alliance i found it very hard to keep a sufficient amount of isk (from ratting) to replace the ships i lost in fleet ops. the alliances i were part of weren't amazingly strong, but not particularly weak either, so i suspect that unless you're in a huge alliance which will win most battles by sheer force of numbers or a strict skillpoint pool, to succeed in 0.0 you need an alt to make your money.
at least, that's the way it seemed to pan out for me. hence (one reason) why i'm in low sec.

Some people also enjoy "Trade wars", the pacificist's PvP. There is something satisfying about acquiring many people's assets without firing a weapon. Not to mention if you are successful enough, you can enter the realm of hiring people to "make an example" of competitors. Seems pretty awesome to me. All in high sec. Not that I would do it. Order micromanaging sucks.

But from what I see most want high skillpoint pvpers only.
To answer your question, ask RA, Goons, BoB, et al why they aren't recruiting the empire masses to come on down.
I have no experience in 0.0, alliances, anything of that sort so my question I hope dosen't sound stupid but anyways... Is it possible for alliances who 'claim' entire regions to set tax levels on those regions for their own direct profit?
I imagine that if I were an alliance in 0.0 and some pve mission running corp wanted to come down and play with the 0.0 npc agents in my region, how can I guarantee that I am receiving the tax percentage that this pve corp and I have agreed to? They might lie and claim other numbers? My natural solution to this is to agree to a specific number per week and leave it at that. It works yes, but if there was a guaranteed means of doing this I imagine more alliances would be friendly towards pve corps in their space.
I suppose that idea would fit all in with the sovergnity playground, hell if ccp is going to let alliances claim regions, own them so to speak. Why not let them set a tax level in those regions and the like?

The statistics lie. Many 0.0 players have tons of alts in empire, some of which they rarely use. The statistics, as a result, are ultimately biased towards the location that is most alt-friendly. ---

There is a subsection of the 0.0 population which exploits the other %90 who live there.
The average 0.0 dweller knows nothing about moon mining or POS. He barely knows of the existance of refine taxes. He doesn't know how much the CEO makes from taxes or how much the alliance leader makes.
Regular alliance guy is in a BS he bought with his own money, the money he was graciously allowed to farm from the belts.

Why shouldn't they get bullied by master for not showing up 60 jumps away on Thursday at 4am?

Simple answer no.
In-depth answer. Just join up. There are corps that would rather just have you regardless of how often you play. My corp even has a system set up where we transport minerals to empire and our empire players manufacturer goods to make profit for the corp. You can be in alliances playing only 3-4 hours a week. Your not costing the alliance anything and dont ever feel guilty for it. If they try to, then find another alliance. Though answering the call to defend the space when a hostile gang comes through is a duty imo, but you dont need to do it flying command ships, you can bring out a tech 1 ship, numbers count as much as quality. Once your in 0.0 though, get past losing your ships a few times a week and get used to being ready to warp to safespots in the system when a non-blue is in local chat and you'll never go back. These people claiming they can make the same money missioning or empire mining are bull****ttters. You can make 35 million/hour mining in a covetor. Hell on a fully insureable ship you've just made more than the ships cost in an hour. At 0.0 farming rates I can afford to lose as many ships as I want and I get to use the game to its full potential.

My point is empire is not being used close to its full potential. Most alliances hold a system for every 20 members they have. Thats member count, not actual active players and most players are definately not even grinding 14 hours a week. Empire is a bunch of nomads fighting tribal warfare, get out here and lets build civilisation.
Empire? Probably you are speaking of Player made empires. The whole post seem a "I wish to get in 0.0 post, let's build a new carebear alliance" than a post from someone that really live in 0.0.
Originally by: Valan Because other members of the alliance don't want farmers sat there grinding isk when they're supposed running POS for sov and JBs. They definitely don't want them mining when they're supposed to be defending.
Freeloaders aren't welcome. The clue is in the name 'ALLIANCE' a group sahring common objectives and helping each other out not lining their own pockets.
Translated: "I don't see any use in mining, even if refining is taxed, the minerals must come form tin air". A very common opinion in 0.0 alliances. And that is one of the reasons not to be in 0.0 if PvP is not your main thing.

In my experience 90% of players that say that are completely and utterly worthless, the only "financial support" they provide is the corp tax on their ratting bounties, which is usually some small amount not worth mentioning.
I'm curious to know, what isn't "completely and utterly worthless", because if I were part of a 0.0 alliance, I'd be able to turn that 2-3 bil a month into something more like 6 bil a month. And that's just *one* person. In that situation, I'd be willing to give maybe 2 billion of that to the alliance every month, at an estimate, and keep 1 bil of my 0.0 profits to myself.
I dunno about you, but providing 2 battleships every 3 days for PvP is a pretty sizeable "donation" to an alliance from one player in my opinion. If I PvP'ed, that ability to get income out would be shot to shreds.
But no, "Get all your alts out of hi sec to come help fight this war" is the call in general. Sorry, I don't play like that.
It's interesting though, last couple posts I've heard "You're part of an alliance, you're supposed to all be going towards a common goal, that's what teamwork is about". Well, teamwork is also about using the different skills of all your team members to the best of their ability.

Its not vanilla vs chocolate. Every aspect of empire and more can be had. An alliance of 600 active players truly needs no more than 24 systems. The security that empire offers is the only thing it has going for it. If alliances had more people to work with and controlled less space we'd find far more developed economies and all the security you'd ever need provided for by players as oppose to some npc controlled parent. Your playing in the crib and empire players are in elementary school. I want empire to grow to be a university. If you want pve there's way better games for the pve experience. Raid in WoW. Go play FFXI. Those have way more complex pve systems.
Quote:

I gave you the numbers. Find someone that wants to dispute that and come back. The numbers you could argue with are 90 manhours to clear a system of crokite, arkonor, and bistot, and every system offering 32 (16*2) manhours a day of ratting. After that theres no flaw in my logic from what I can see.
Quote:

I meant 0.0 is a bunch of nomads fighting tribal warfare, thats been corrected.
The fact is the only reason why 0.0 isnt like empire is because of you carebears. Right now its still like pioneering back in the 1700's. Tons of open space, lawlessness, and constant warfare. If empire players got their heads screwed on straight and came out here, put up with the tech 1 ship losses that happen rarely (i lose my covetor on my miner twice a month), and we got infrastructure in 0.0 and more players we'd be set. We could build 0.0 into empire space with player run police forces, paid gate camps, and all the shipping logistics and developed economy of empire space. Get out, fly tech 1 ships your whole life, I dont care but why deny yourself the opportunity to really exist in a fully player run world.
