I'm new to the game, 3 days, and having a blast so far. Definately gonna sign up.
I've printed out several guides and topics on skill training but I'm still a little confused on the RANK of a skill and the LEVEL.
Reason is... Lots of posts mention training these important skills to IV. Some say to Level 5. etc.
See what I mean. Not really sure of the mechanics.
Thanking you guys in advance for your help.
P.S. I'm Gallente - Going to use Drones and Energy blasters (I think) LOL!

Rank is a multiplier making a skill longer to learn. If a rank 1 level 1 skill takes 10 minutes to learn then a rank 5 level 1 skill will take 50 minutes. Rank is set by CCP when they create the skill and can not be modified by the player.
Each skill has a bonus per level (in the case of the ship skills, the bonus is on the ship instead of the skill). Each skill has 5 levels. Small Energy Turret adds 5% damage per level, so if you train all 5 levels, you will get +25% damage.
P.S. Gallente ships have bonusses for hybrid guns, sticking energy weapons on them is not the smartest thing to do.

Thanks so much!
Can you explain Hybrid guns to me a little bit. I was thinking about that last night. How do I specifically know if it's a Hybrid? Will it say in the description?
So far, I've done the tutorial to almost the finish. Tonight I'll complete part 10 of 10 with the agent. I've looted dozens & dozens of lasers and got a new ship that can use 3 guns at once. I replaced the "civilian" laser with the ones I looted.
Sorry to sound confusing. LOL!

Hybrid weapons are railguns and particle blasters. It should say in the description that it uses hybrid charges. Railguns are the long-range version - lower damage than blasters, and you may have trouble hitting things that are flying fast and close to you. Blasters are very high damage, but you probably won't be able to hit anything past about 5-6km.
And yes, drones are your friend. ^^ In future, if you stick with gallente, you'll find several ships dedicated to their effective use, and drone skills are useful in most all larger ships anyway.

Thank you so much!
I chose Gallente specifically when reading up about Eve, for the use of Drones. So far my ship can only have ONE though lol! But he kicks butt even by himself.
When I get home tonight from work I'll check and make sure I'm using Hybrid blasters. Gonna stick with blasters and drones. That's my goal anyway. So far i figured out to set the orbit to the optimum fire distance of the guns when attacking rats.
Look forward to more advice if you want to keep it coming. I'm all ears!
Thanks again.

I remember loosing my first drone and being so upset over it. I was flying a caracal with two drones and i loved the little guys to death. When they accidently took aggro and perished I felt heart broken....
Such a noob I was...now i regularly leave drones behind :)
