Hi fellow players, hi CCP and hi trolls !
Me and my friends played EVE now for about 1-2 month and we recently had our first pirate war declaration. Nothing wrong with that, Pirates are Part of EVE.
The only pitty is how the pirates found us as their target. They scaned the help and recruiting channels for "easy" prey. Okay recruiting channel are used by expirenced corps as well, but looking for your prey in help channels? Isn't it pretty much the same like stealing candy from kids?
I know not all pirate corps are like that. Please pirates have at least that tiny pit of self respect to outcast those amoung your ranks that lower themself to this level.
In conclusion of my short time in EVE I wouldn't be suprised when the "new blood" of EVE leaves again. Why care as old players? Don't kill EVE's life-giving new players or EVE itself might die sooner than later.
Oh and finally, why do I post with an alt. I want to keep my lolly with my main char safe from noob picking pirates
Have fun, fly safe and thx for reading my 2 cents,
an anonymous noob.

Yeah, that is pretty low tbh. I like the targets with 5-10x the number of members so there are more for the pickin. And shooting ships that drop nice loots beats killmail whoring against noob corps any day.
Good luck with your first war, at least give them a little bit of a fight for the fun of it... maybe you'll surprise them ------------

You might give this some though. Who is more to blame when a newbie gives up on EVE because of incessant pirate attacks that his corp is unable to defend from:
The pirates who use all known resources to find corps that are rich in targets that are low in resistance and high in reward (read, medium sized corps with an emphasis on missioning or industry).
Or the CEO who decided to start a corp thinking he could completely ignore PvP, thereby being unable to do anything but remain docked when (it's never if) the first war dec came knocking.
EVE is a PvP game. No player can be completely free of it, and being in a corp opens you up to one of the mainstreams of PvP combat. It's the responsibility of a good CEO to make sure the people in his corp are prepared for it, and able to defend against it either by own means, trough mercenaries or by means of an alliance. If a CEO fails at this, he's the sole responsible for the negative experience his corpies get due to his failure to run his corp well.

Well put. I remember when my first corp got war dec'd... We ended up merging with another corp that was also dec'd (yes, the one I'm still in) and we did alright, even if we had some losses. We at least had fun doing it... when we weren't smacking the crap out of each other ------------

I didn't complain about the wardec.
My real concern is that the "help" channel is not safe to use for new players. And this is the first MMO where I expirenced such a paradox.
In other words, without a trusted friend that knows how eve runs its a VERY bumpy road.

well mate, how can you be so sure that this pirate corp picked you out from the help channel? are you sure that one of your corpmates wasnt stealing loot, or smacktalking, or insulting pilots from the other corp? perhaps this pirate corp are also new and looking for a target around their level?
wardecing a newb corp isnt something that i would do, but some players will be quite happy to randomly grief newer players simply because they can.

If you arent ready for PVP then stay in a NPC corp, they can't be war decced. I agree on the others that the CEO of your corp is responsible for this situation. Creating a corp with only new EVE players isn't very smart to do. I suggest you leave the corp and join a NPC corp or a more mature corp.

this is all fair and well but it hardly sounds like the pirates in question didnt "use all known resources to find corps that are rich in targets that are low in resistance and high in reward"
they used all known resource to gank n00bs in a small corp (2 months old - cant be flying more than cruisers).
hardly sounds target rich does it?
they have picked easy kills, this is NOTHING to do with serious profit at all.
i agree with the rest of your post, but i wouldnt be defending these pirates, i war dec people myself but ONLY if the war dec with pay for its self in loot, picking on n00bs is just cheap thrills it has nothing to do with reward and risk. ------- woot a sig -------

Good point. Most high sec pirates would wait until a corp was medium sized in order to assure better loot and the funds to pay for ransoms, i agree. A noob corp would not be worth that investment.
But then, neither is the time spend to can bait people in trade hubs, and people do that too. Some people like to collect kill mails and they are within their right to do so. Complaining that such people monitor certain high traffic channels for vulnerable targets is tackling the problem the wrong way.
Sorry if i offended your professionalism as a high sec pirate . It was an attempt to simplyfy my point.

:)
lol dont offend me at all mate, like i said to the guy who came in to my mission lastnight and took all my salvage, "its part of the game, carry on dude" ;) (right before i warped out and let the rats gank him).
i never really ***** and moan about this stuff, i just like people to be honest about there intentions if the intention is to gank n00bs just say so - it shouldnt be dressed up at anything else ;)
i am not a pirate, i just like to kill folks ;)

Edited by: Galeros on 05/03/2008 12:51:24 I actually loved 2 man corp wardeccing 40 man corp (newbies with few old chars iirc), losing few t2 ships and whining in local 'Why do you fight 20 vs 2 of us? Fight fair'
Other 30 people that were in local at the time made it unforgettable :) |

We found a suitable solution: We don't run a PoS, so we left the Corp and made a ingame Chatchanel with password. A bit more complex in case of "corp" logistics, but it works. And a dummy char keeps the old corp running. Our leader is even so nice to log it in sometimes so that the pirats have someone to camp. And this time the targets also matches their skills, newbiest pilot without a sinlge skill point added have fun camping while we are at the movies.
