Has CCP tried testing what would happen in they made the stealth bomber bombs cheaper than the ship that is being suicided?
I would like to feasibly be able to use bombs against blobs, but currently they are just too expensive at current build costs. Stealth bombers are costing around 7 mill these days making the cheapest possible price for the ammunition cost twice as much as the ship itself
I think that CCP could consider lowering the bomb costs again in order to get more usage out of them, and hopefully less blobs. My Blog |

Unlike in WoW, prices of goods in EVE are by and large not determined by the GMs/Devs. Instead, the EVE market uses a little concept called "Supply and Demand". ---

The devs may not be able to control price exactly, but they can choose the mineral requirements, and those do not change that much over time. Right now bombs are expensive because they cost a lot to make because of the minerals required to make one.
Reduce mineral cost or improve effectiveness, because these things currently lack effective use.

Definitely need a massive reduction in costs. A single bomb costing as much as 2-3 cruisers is incredibly use-prohibitive. The bomb-launcher taking up a missile slot is also something that should be switched to a role-bonus module that takes up no hard points.

It seems you don't know that the minimum price of one bomb is insanely high, because you need a LOT of minerals to build one: http://www.eve-online.com/itemdatabase/EN/ammunitioncharges/bombs/27920.asp
The prices the OP means are not really player made.

Yup bombs are too expensive, but the danger is they get used to combine harvest asteroid belt NPCs but isk farmers, if they are too cheap. So they got to be Cheap enough to use on the battlefield but too expensive to be used as an NPC farming tool.
Id say aiming for 5-6 mil a bomb would be about right.

If CCP determined the cost of the bomb based upon the amount of potential damage it caused, by that logic, the doomsday weapon onboard a Titan should cost 10X as much as the titan itself and need to use expendable charges.
The cost in materials for the bomb is far above what it needs to be.

Well I guess CCP just doesnt give a ****. Blob, blob, blob until we all get fed up of the lag.
I seriously doubt bombs will get a relooking at anytime soon. Maybe in 2 years we will finally see some changes, but i still doubt it

How exactly is that relevant when bombs take, what, five caracals worth of minerals?
No matter what price the minerals are, the bomb is going to be more expensive :p

I don't really see why they introduced these things. They have minimal if any solo use. They can be effective in certain types of situations with gangs. However, they negated all of this with the build cost. I understand the concept of pre nerfing things, but we are well beyond that now.
If they are going to stick with this build cost, change the explosion radius to 10. At least then the damage potential might be in line with the expense. If not, drop the cost already.

You all do know that bombs are now half the price that they used to be?
I agree that they are very pricy, and perhaps need still further adjustment, but you have just had a halfing of the costs. Maybe CCP wants to see if they get more use before they manipulate them again.
Very good point on using bombs to kill NPC's. I'm sure that needs to be the bottom limit: They must cost more than the bounties of a decent rat swarm. As it is, I could see some level 4-5 missions being very worth a bomb or three.

First off, if there any charge in the game that costs more than the ship that is designed to use it? Even with production changing to 2 bombs per run, the cost really does put off alot of people. Discussions between corpmates about bomb usage always ends up back on the cost. Do you build bombs that are expended or build ships? The debate rages on.
As for bombs to kill NPCs. EVE suffers from a fundamental flaw not found in alot of other games: Nothing is 100% immune to anything. Other games saw that having particular entities immune to certain damage types was beneficial. In addition there were damage types beyond the normal resist types found on the players. EVE is bound to just 4 damage types and, in many cases, you only experience 1 damage type. To stop the potential use of bombs in missions, NPCs could be flagged immune to damage received from a bomb.

Just stop the bomb launcher from working in all but 0.0. The bombs should be cheaper, but not so cheap that its cost worthy to rat with them. Cut it down to 5-10m per bomb (the ship costs only 7-8mil ffs) and we will see alot more usage. My Blog |
