Reading up on the forums and seeing whats going on in-game to alot of the new ppl who have started out, I can see a pattern emerging with the new players wantign to get into the game but getting griefed by the older (bored) players which is causing havoc on the amoutn of ppl quiting- I do like this game but its just not worth spending money on the sub to be constantlly hassled by older players. Also the fact that soem of us new folks will never ever be able to compete with some of these ppl as a loss to us is huge but to them its jsut chump change.
Kinda ruining the game for us all . Would consider playing again if there was a new server where everyone got to have afresh start- no player migration no nothing- just a brand new server to give the noobs a fighting chance- it needs it or this game will die this year- as there is quite a few very good mmo's that are due out this year.
Think fast on this please or you will loose loads of subscriptions.

That JiHURRRRRdswarm thing everybody's so cranked about? It's probably taken out less than 2% of the hulks in space.
This forum is a hellhole (*edit* see 2 previous posts) and has little to do with what actually happens ingame on a daily basis unless you're living in one of the way- overpopulated caldari regions, or at least that's how it looks to me. If you're caldari just move out towards the sticks a little, see if you can meet some pleasant folks who do whatever you think you're into (mining, piracy, merc work, whatever) and you'll be fine. :) ______________________________

There are new games coming out constantly, and EVE is still the bet in its field.
If you stay in hi-sec, you can't be killed unless you do fall into a trap to start agression, or by suicide gank which kills the ship attacking you.
Rules: - don't fly what you can't afford to lose - if it's yellow, don't touch it (actually avoid it by around 5000m) - if you see a warning when trying to do something, read it |

I play WoW also, and starngely enough there are a lot of high level players who goes around killing low level players. Still, there are 8 million subscribers to WoW.
No, I don't think doomsday will hit EvE just yet. All it will do is sort those that like it and those that don't. Same with WoW, those that like it play on PvP servers, those that don't play on the PvE servers. EvE only have 1 really big PvP server

No the vets are not dissing everything and screaming don't touch our eve, its just that we see new players making this claim after a few days of play time.
Wait a few days and read the next "eve is going to die" thread and you will see what I mean. Yeah perhaps I shouldn't have went straight for the funny on my reply but too many people compare this game to how WoW plays and sorry its just not like that here. So because they don't get the kind of things the OP said (new servers, migrations etc) then they predict death for the game.
Yes this game is hard, yes people in bigger ships kill people in smaller ships, yes the game won't hold your hand guide you through your pod life, yes people are mean, yes its harsh but.... no it's not going to die.

I didn't see him screaming anywhere. He was basically saying we see these posts all the time. Some noob comes in, demands to change to the game to accomadate him and then says the game will die soon, unless his demands are met and while he's doing that subs are going up.

I just bought Halo 3 and it turns out it is a FPS?I'm yet another generic space Marine guy and I have to shoot stupid aliens with a gun and throw grenades and stuff.
I think it should be about Dinosaurs or mutant Tigers and be set in Hawaii instead of outer space. Also I should have a magic hat instead of a gun and 10x more health.
If they don't do what I want nobody will buy Halo 4!

To OP:
If YOU leave EVE, that will not make EVE die.
It is absolutely normal that from 100 new players a good percentage will stop playing in the trial time.. and some more after the first months.
Some of it is frustration, some of it is just "I dont like it"...
I did quit so many MMOGs in the past, that I lost count (including EVE once)... and guess what... ALL of them still exist.
Just cause YOU see it as the end of days, does not mean, that there really is any impact on EVE.
In german channel, we are throwing virtual stones at anyone, who is mentioning "WoW" as in "but in WoW, we had....."... EVE IS NOT WOW... and will never be and should never be. The only place with 100% safety is INSIDE the station. Once you undock, you are on the battlefield.
Learning the game and not doing stoopid things also helps a lot. Touching a can that reads "free stuff for noobs" is a lesson you need to learn once...
A week ago, a 3 days old players insisted on getting "revenge to safe his honor" on a guy flying a command ship. I could hear the other guys laughs accross 17 jumps, but the newb insisted, that we (the german channel) were entitled to help him, even when we explained to him in detail, that we do not want to throw our ships to the hands of Concord, to safe his nonexistant honor.
As a new player, you obviously cannot be a god in game. That does not work in any game. It does not work in EVE either.
Learn the game, take a few losses and move on. Griefers are by far not THAT much of a problem as you make it look like.

True... I dont agree with him regarding EVE = dying. Still I see some points the new players do address need balancing but still this get dissed, since to be honest a 30m+ sp player usually dont cry their hats off loosing a ship or two and they didnt experience the same baptism as quite many new people do.
EVEs forum is in so many ways a harsher community than lineage 2 which I didnt think existed . I like EVE dark with PVP as main goal but answering newbies post with STFU or trolls on the rolls etc.. isnt dark its dumb.
Well quite frank it feels like WoW barrens all over again >< and they said it was grown ups in majority here haha...
Only 2 big issues I think need balancing is a big nerf on insurance for people with low SS. Simply promote PVP between equals even if it should be possible to gank a hauler in highsec again Risk vs Reward.

you are right though, alot of older players turn evil after so long as its just boring once u have done most aspects of the game! thats the main problem CCP will have
content for old players reaching the end - or - more gap between new and old players fixing one with new toys for older players makes the gap seem so much worse for the new players

Without to much disrespect i have to disagree with the OP alot.
I quit EVE once after i couldnt get through the free trial (huge learning curve)
I recently came back to EVE determined to try it out and give it a fair ***** of the whip. I joined a 0.0 corp right away and am now ratting in Venal when im not jump cloning back to Empire (thanks corp Faction) and selling products i make / mine off my alt.
I fly a battle cruiser now and have not once been flipped or ganked. Only way you will die in High sec is by having a moment of dumb or not knowing when danger is in front of you waving and jumping up and down.
Bout to jump into lowsec and theres a pod or Ibis on your side, good chance youll be in a pod as well if you jump in anything slower than a frig. Goons warp into your roid belt, warp off now instead of looking at dogdy websites for 3 min cycles.
I have 1.5 mil SP and the one thing i can say about this game is that if you go solo you wont last.
Hematite Rose, Bionic Dawn, cheers guys . . But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake. And the Science gets done. And you make a neat gun.

Bingo- you will go far in eve buddy.
We all went through our blooding- thats what makes eve great. The weak willed and stupid get torn apart- the smart, wily and determined stay on and make this game great.
OP- read this response. The answers to your problems are quite clearly in it.
Location, Profession, Association. Get those right and you will be fine.
Also I used to think that SP and veternism meant that nubs couldnt compete. How wrong I was. Took me a long time to learn that lesson, but its true. EDIT: Oh and btw, even when I started eve was a hell of alot harder. A simple example I can think of was not even having tractor beams, nor salvage, and lvl4s were impossible without your corpmates helping you. Think about that, think about the huge nerfs to empire wardecs (might have been before you but look up privateers in evewiki) and think about the cascade of people, veterns and nubs, telling you that you are wrong!

There is a post like this at least once a week. The short answer is: 1) You are wrong. 2) Get into a corp that will teach you something.

ok i may have exaggerated when i say dying - but the factof the matter is alot of "new" accounts are the enourmas amount of gold sellers - the issue with us new players is exactlly what one player put forward - for us to lose a ship costs us dearlly- but for the guy that killed us it means nothing has he has his millions and millions there to buy another.
Its the griefing of us lowbies by the older players thats doing it in for alot- i know thye have doneso much, seen it all so all thats really left for them is to go around harrasing as mnay ppl as poss- yeah i know its fun- i do like the pvp action of games- hatecarebear enviroments myself- but i will always stress that you need to give the younger players a chance to establish themselves or they will jsut get fed up and quit. How many ppl you think will keep playing this game when there are so many new mmo's on the horizon? Aion/Stargate world/ star trek online/ warhammer / conan etc etc- they all new mmo's with huge ambitions and most are due out this year apparentlly. So please thsi game may be old but it can still be fun to play as long as the older generation of players give the new players a chance!

One thing you find in each and every mmorpg forum is doomsayers. Always ready to kill off the game because the "next big thing" is coming.
Sure new games come all the time, its happened before and so what? Eve gained more customers after wow came so your doom and gloom is as pointless as always.
EVE will probably still be here slowly gaining customers because it tries to stick to its niche instead of caving in to demands to make it one of a million similar games. If you cant take the heat and learn how to stay safe (if you want that) then bye bye, EVE is not for you. Edited by: Ardrilian on 05/03/2008 15:59:17 Let's just for a moment assume that you'll actually get your new server where everything is reset and all players start at 0 again.
How exactly are you going to defend against all the evil "veteran" players joining the very same server, starting a new char, earning a lot of money much faster than you will ever be able to an then starting to make your life miserable again?
Thinking that you would even remotely stand a chance against a vet player on a new server is an illusion. They know more about ship-fittings, about making money and they are a lot better at surviving as well as killing.
Next to that, it will only take a few weeks before there will be new players complaining about everyone already having a head start and the need of a new server and it will just repeat (and we're talking weeks or a few months at max.).
There is however a ton of threads explaining in detail that you're not ultimately doomed and that you'll be more than competitive enough within a reasonable time frame.

If those old players are so powerful, why don't you join them? --
There are countless games in the world. There are at least as many ppl that dont like one or more rules of said games. That never stopped smart game designers from creating good games.

Good EvE got 200,000 subscribers but how many of them are alternative accounts from old players? Just looking at the number of accounts says nothing about the number of real players in EvE.
