wtf?
I put a couple of 100mm reinforced armor plates up for sale, the market screen said that it would run out at some point today. I log back in and find that they're gone. I got no money for them and they're not in my items list nor are they in the assets list at the space station in which I tried to sell them.
What gives?

Check again after Downtime. That fixes it most times.

Related to this: When a contract does not get fulfilled, is the collateral lost or is it refunded and do you only lose the agent fees ?

Ppl really should take the time to read the Player guides--in this case the one on Contracts... Of course u get back the item u put up for sale using the Contract... u lose the fees.... U hit delete after u get notice that the contract expired or hit Accept isk if it was successful...The guide explains how to properly set up the different types and bids and buyouts...if u set the parameters wrong u end up paying more and maybe having no bids...
On the market items, they should end up back in the station hangar where u put them up for sale after DT.

They eventually did but not until this morning (well, at some point between the time I made this thread and 730am CST).

Downtime is 1100-1200 GMT, or 5am-6am CST (6am-7am CDT).
Sounds like your market order was resolved at DT.

yup
oh and since I don't want to clutter this forum with too many threads :p can anyone tell me what the difference is between civilian items and normal ones? I can see the difference in stats by why is there a civilian class in the first place? most of these items seem to be almost identical to the level 1 stuff

Cvilian items are weaker but require no extra skills to operate. Normal or tech 1 items may require certain skills.
