Edited by: Rob Buie on 06/03/2008 07:30:53 I'm always tempted to lend my characters out to others so they may use them to mine/haul/rat when I'm not using them, but I dont like the risk of having to go through hassles if it turns out they decide to do something stupid like transfer my char or change my password on me or anything of the like so I just don't lend them out.
What about if there was a way to put a second password on your account that gave you use of the account but prevented use of all subscription and account changes as well as allowing you to lock assets from being contracted/trashed/sold/flown etc.
The only thing they could do is kill a alpha clone of it and I think we are all capable of being able to judge who might do something like that.
I know this may break their terms of service at the moment, but can't that be changed as CCP sees fit?
Thoughts?

Sharing characters is not supported as EULA tells you not to reval your password to anyone. Its not very bannable I think, as it can't be proven, but its not strictly legal.

ToS is generally used for services like an internet connection, websites, etc. Stuff that don't require software to use.
EULA is generally used for software you install and use.
Both are drawn up by the company (usually the legal department) so both can be modified as the company pleases.
Either way, you can call it a car or an automobile, they're both the same thing.

Ah cool so this is a possible idea than since the agreements drawn up by the company not by a third party bureaucratic governmental department, that was my main concern.
Would anyone actually oppose this, even if you`d never use it do you actually feel opposed to this? I only see good. Maybe even corp shared miner accounts but thats thinking a little ahead.

Well, its against CCPs profit because with shared accounts people have less reasons to buy more accounts. So CCP has no intrest in making it safe and fun and officially allowed. Yet, there is no way to prove who sits at the keyboard, who typed in the password, and there is no harm to the game power balance or something if your classmate changes your skills while you have no time to log in, so no players will (probably) consider it a cheat or something. But if you share your password with half of the corp, or you have 5 people knowing password to a titan pilot account so the titan is available 23/7, and someone abuses this, when you cry on petitions, CCP can say "You broke EULA, your fault". And if someone breakes other rules, like - gets involved with ISK trade - you can get banned, as there is still no way of proving it was not you, and you are responsible for that account. Especially that they still cannot prove

Im still going to run my 3 accounts, I think most players running multiple accounts will do the same. I think players not running multiple accounts may consider splitting an account 3 ways or whatnot. But hey I have no evidence for this, just a thought.

cool makes sense
Originally by: Ellaine TashMurkon CCP can say "You broke EULA, your fault".
Thats why companies often have a use at your risk policy. CCP time and time again has proven they dont parent their players, they leave them responsible for their own actions.
Thanks for the rebuttals, keep them coming, I want this idea foolproof.

In order to get this point foolproof, you'd need 50k signatures of people saying they would not close accounts, but rather open up even more for sharing purposes, like the corp miners you mentioned.

Still means more petitions. And saying "that's the risk of sharing, we can't help you" everytime will quickly spawn "CCP support sucks!11!!!" on internet forums and become a PR nightmare. It's easier to disallow it from the start than to deliberately ignore the consequences of something you allow and even provided the mechanics for.
Account sharing for setting skills to train: Not neccesary if you plan a bit. Planning becomes even easier with evemon and since evemon can use the API these days instead of having to use your account name and password, there's really no reason anymore not to use it. If this really becomes an issue, it's better solved with a skill queue than sharing.

Kind of pointless since at no point he said he actually shared.
