In the game, not in the forums. I read a lot of times someone says someone else is an alt for so-and-so. Are they guessing, or is there a way to see what characters belong to what accounts?

Some say they can tell by how much security status someone has or how good their standings are with NPC corporations in general, which is true and false as some people just trade for a living, never touching NPC nor missions.

Corporations previously affiliated with, killboards, relative proximity to certain forces, etc etc. Depends on what the alt is used for. A scouting/cov ops alt for example will always preclude the arrival of the main. Run into the guy 2-3 times and it isn't hard to figure out. A research/industry/hauler alt might have been in previous corporations affiliated with certain entities. Something like a highsec mission alt in an NPC corp, there's no way to know outside of someone telling you.

Age / Corp History / Sec Status / Standings normally. Other than that you can only really compare the behaviour to see similarities in login/logoff times, etc... ...

Standings mainly tell me. If no NPC corp or agent has heard of the guy, he's probably a scout or trading alt.
Funnily enough, I saw a guy yesterday 8 days old but with over 8.0 standings with Poteque Pharmaceuticals (a rather obscure NPC corp) and no standings with any other NPC corps -- sign of an isk farmer or what?

Edited by: Komaito on 07/03/2008 18:06:04 Sometimes I'd love a possibility to check the other characters of a given account.
For example a function like, right click portrait -> other characters.

All the above plus intuition.
Sometimes they jsut don't "feel" right due to the way they talk, how they react, their knowledge of things, etc.
The reason most corps/alliances pay a lot of attention to the new guy. Not only are they helping train them (if legitimate) but they are also looking for signs that they might be something else entirely.
Plus most legitimate alts will say so. They might not tell you who their main is, but they won't hide that they have one.

No... Just, no...
That would take ALL the fun out of this game for me. After playing for a few years now, all the fun I really have involves plotting nefarious schemes to socially engineer other players out of their assets. If one were able to check alts then how would I (and the countless others) be able to enjoy the game the way they choose to play it???

Yup, ISK farmer running courier missions. They used to do it down in Ingunn, although Metafarmers were giving them problems. I don't know if they still do.
