I'm pretty new to EVE and I'm thinking that I would like to aim for a bounty hunting careerin EVE (mostly players)....is bounty hunting a viable career that will generate enough isk for me? Do I need to do a bit of NPC rat hunting to augment it?
Cheers

Long and short of it Bounty Hunting wont net you any isk the entire bounty system is ******
you only collect bounties for pod kills so eighter you'll get a absolute complete utter n00b pirate, who wont have a good bounty or the pirate will just warp away before you lock him
plus most people dont have a high bounty anyway The moment a pirate's bounty gets high, they'll just get an alt to pod themselves, and claim it all

As the man above said, the bounty system just doesn't work, for quite a few reasons. However, you can still go around blowing up pirates and taking their stuffz. That's a dangerous way to make a living, though.

as Ffuantu Grymm, thats about the only way to make isk off a pirate hunting
Unfortunately if you shoot a pirate with greater then -5.0 sec status, you are going to take a sec status hit which means you end up looking like a pirate pretty early in your career
which means most other pirates hunters will be shooting you come to think of it.... theres no way to tell who is a pirate hunter or a pirate
Also is pretty time consuming to tell who is an honest hauler, and an EVIL EVIL macro hauling cheater. more time then it takes to blow em away
so my advice, 1 find something you can kill 2 kill it 3 loot it 4 then sort out if he was a pirate in a subsequent convo if hes a pirate, /thumbs up, Go Go Pirate Hunter, goto 5 if hes not, say "Sorry", goto 5 5 take loot 6 run like hell

This is working as intended, because

is basically the same as pirates do, except pirates skip 4 and go straight to 5.

There is only one reliable way to make money from a bounty hunter character. Buy two accounts, and play a pirate/scammer on the first. Everytime you grief someone enough for them to put a bounty on your pirate, use the other character to pod him and collect the bounty for yourself.
Seriously, the above scenario is why the bounty system is broken. Bounties are just a way of giving more money to the person who ****ed you off.

Relatively dangerous, but I wouldn't say all that hard to do. If you get a noob alt in a hauler to get them to aggro on a gate in lowsec, warp in with an inty/vagabond/arazu etc... and watch them die to sentries. Kinda low but happens rather often, and not all that risky to do since there isn't much to counter it.
Don't try it on passive tankers though... anything that needs cap boosters or runs an active tank can be broken pretty easily doing this. ------------
