Anyone with some understanding of the internet knows lots of peeps cause lag no matter how good servers are your never kill the monster but there is many small bits of data moving around that isnt needed & every little helps im shure we all agree.
First a real simple one, standings info of players & even employment info. simple adding a "get data" button would help alot to uneeded lag.
How many times you check your ships info to last tab & then check someones info & have to wait for ages because your last window was saved & is standing tab now. so 2 things there, DONT save last window looked at, start all fresh queries from tab 1. Add a new button "Get Data" for standings & employment so we only ask server for data when we realy want it.
There is many more pages like this in npc corps info all could have the magic button added.
---
Part 2 is in market, you open market & lag, you havent choose anything yet but the client has request a full list of current/lowest prices for all items or all avalible for that region depending on your settings. I dont ever look at them prices on the overview page I pick & item & check the prices & distance of all avaliable.
overview page = the type tab, "sensor boosters" for example & it show ya the nice list with the nameded t1 & t2 with a price at bottom of each.
First, I belive this price could be removed & many wont mind or as is always good make it an option to tick on/off. We can already choose station system ect but the amount of database access remainds the same if all items ticked on.
Removing anything will always upset someone tho, options are key.
Secound, cache the market list client side & only access the server for the items we click on, for the little disk space this would use its a more than fair trade for lagless browsing.
The new market option due tuesday dont help this at all I find, there just to filter out scam prices.
I can clearly see them 2/3 features will reduse bits of lag by reducing many unneeded unasked for server calls & cant see any bad side effects ? what you other players think ?.

I was thinking something like this a couple days ago. Eve could be a LOT gentler upon it's own servers if it didn't load stuff without us asking for it. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Agreed & thanks for reply man seem we must be the only 2 who see eve lag alot, must be our connections or something :)
Standing page is the worse Id think & if ya consider 40k online thats alot of unneeded server calls to remove ccp should jump on it.

What you need to understand is that when data is sent the servers have to add on extra data for routing purposes so the packets aren't lost in the void in addition each request requires hundreds of routers to spend time determining where the packet needs to go. While Caching the market may be sending more data in one go its more efficient. If the data was sent each time you clicked a different item it would take more server time because each click would be a different job for the servers and routers and the overhead of multiple server requests would counterbalance the smaller file size.
If you only click one item and leave this isn't a problem, but if you look at say shield extenders and then look at the prices for each versions of the medium shield extender then you will have to make sever server requests in essence making the server MORE busy as well as wasting your time while you wait for each page to load --Bird of Prey: Forum God

I think you have it the wrong way round in a few areas.
Currently you click market & lag, why I dunno but I assume its getting all the lowest prices or something else we dont need at that time. Im saying the main list should be client side so no lag when you click to open market & browse down to your chossen item's.
For example ill buy a caldri frig off current market, heres the prosses..
1, open market, sends/gets data & lags unkown reason at this point.
2, browse ships/frigs/caldri no lag here. I click there it loads what im calling the overview page with the ship descritions showing & a price, it laggs a bit to get them prices & yet im still gunno click my chossen frig so dont realy need them prices
3, click merlin & lag to get all prices, thats fair as we have asked & needed that data.
So I see no reason for the first 2 lag causing steps is all im saying & only 1 server call/data is needed as I click merlin.
As you add also there is more info per call then just the data required & that would also be removed, the amount of items you intend to buy would still asks prices for each item as the market does today so there is no increase I an see ?.
Still I feel standings page's & other npc corp pages would be a greater change aginst uneeded lag but any bit less should help.
