Put a giant secure container in secure area 1.0. Used it for a few hours. logged off for a few days and now I cannot find it. I named it.....my question is ...is there a search feature or probe that can help me find it? I am smarter now and will transport my new one to lo sec and anchor.

This is probably the problem :(
Secure cans needs to be passworded and anchored (only possible to anchor in 0.7 and below AFAIK) to be secure - anybody (with enough cargo space) can scoop an unanchored can to the cargohold. --

If it's not anchored (you cannot anchor in 1.0), a secure can functions much like a regular can, in that it disappears after a few hours. It can also be scooped/opened by anyone.

When I used cans (way back in the day...) they had a password on them, nobody else could scoop them up or open them, but they did disappear over DT.
My information could be outdated, as I am speaking from past experience.

As stated earlier, a GSC can only be anchored in 0.7 space or under. You used to be able to anchor above that, but most of those cans were removed, and you can no longer anchor there (I've seen some lingering cans in 0.8 systems).
The rules for secure cans are supposed to be changing soon. It looks like you'll no longer be able to anchor a can and just leave it indefinitely without interacting with it again. This will lead to the disappearance of thousands of cans that are cluttering some systems

Hrm, well for as long as I have been playing (late 05) you have not been able to anchor cans in 1.0 and 0.9 space. You could put a passworded can in space and it would float around but could not anchor it. This meant anyone could scoop it and to get the contents all you need to do is repackage it to get the contents. The game has been like this since well before I started playing. -=^=-

Edited by: NightF0x on 11/03/2008 22:48:47 Been playing since mid '06 and since I have been playing you couldn't anchor the cans in 1.0-0.8 space. You can leave them in-space indefinitely without it being anchored as long as no one comes by and steals it. (and no they don't disappear after DT and will only disappear if you don't visit it within 30 days when they implement this new patch) With that being said here's what you can and can't do:
1.0-0.8 Space A. Can not anchor a secure container in space B. You can leave one but someone may scoop it if their cargo hold is big enough C. You can password it but it doesn't make it secured or anchored
0.7-0.0 Space A. You can anchor and password a secure can as long as you are not within 5000m (5km) of another object in space B. You will have to revisit it within every 30 days or it will be deleted C. Anchored secure cans will last forever, granted you visit the can every 30 days ------------------------------------

Edited by: Falka Lakadaka on 12/03/2008 01:57:33 I have a clean space policy. If a can isn't anchored, then I consider it a free gift. I haven't bought a can in over a year. 1.0 to 0.8 space are my preferred source of cans, as they can't be anchored. Cans add to lag, so I'm doing my bit for the anti-lag cause.
They don't disappear during downtime, but they may well disappear during my playtime.
I haven't needed to collect any cans in the last few weeks though, so I didn't take yours. But if I'd seen it, I would have. GSCs are a little harder to come by and consquently worth more than the others.
Cheers Falka

Also be aware that the Trinity 1.1 patch makes a change to containers. They will be removed unless accessed within 30 days or located within the vicinity of a starbase.
Better still, read the patch notes. It's in the 'critical' section at the top.

U used to be able to mine ice in .8 space and they changed it to .7 and below last year and I believe the anchoring changed from .8 and below to .7 and below at that time also...but I could be wrong about the anchoring (not about the ice mining tho)

I'm fairly confident that anchoring cans has been 0.7 and below for quite some time. i.e this wasn't changed last year.
